  1. I recently picked up some Other Side minis on the cheap. Although I have a lot of experience working with more traditional minis, I haven't really worked much with the softer plastic. I know the material doesn't really act the same when you're working on them. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for de-flashing. Gap filling seems like it should be the same, but advice is welcome. Has anyone had much luck breaking them apart for painting? A more general question; what do you use to assist with batch painting? I've seen painters mount several models to paint sticks. I've also seen painters mount each model individually to cork or something similar. What works best for you? Thanks!
  2. We're getting ready to start a 4-week campaign at my LGS, using some modified rules. We allow Henchmen or Masters to be taken in the initial arsenal. Since it isn't entirely Master led at the start, you still have to pay to add the leader to your arsenal sheet. Because players have the option, we said that 0-cost Henchmen must still be paid for, even if they aren't the leader. The thought process was that the free Henchmen combined with the Master would unbalance the early weeks since the free aspect isn't really offset by the cost of the synergy enablers. Additionally, in a by-the-book campaign a 0-Cost Henchman is still paid for when it's the leader. The Master is then paid for if added later. The thought was that the same should be true when hired in the opposite order. Now I know this isn't entirely fair to the players that want to run the Viks or Lynch. They will slightly overpay in a campaign setting to start with the Henchman/Master combo. Has anyone else tried house rules to help balance out the 0-cost Henchmen in a Shifting Loyalties campaign? Do you think the games will still be fair if the Henchmen are free week 1? I'd love to hear what people's thoughts are and I'm very open to suggestions. Thanks!
  3. This Saturday, April 16th at noon, Battlegrounds in Midlothian Va is running a tabletop demo day. Learn how to play Malifaux and a wide variety of other tabletop games. Participate in a demo and get 10% off a crew box. For more info, check out Battlegrounds Facebook event page here. Feel free to ask questions here or on the Facebook page.
  4. On June 27th, we will be hosting a mixed format event at Battlegrounds in Midlothian Va. The event is scheduled between Noon and 7:00 PM. The event will cover four rounds and is intended to be a more casual event. Here is a quick breakdown of the event. Round 1: Standard Encounter (50 SS) Round 2: Henchman Hardcore Round 3: Enforcer Brawl Round 4: 3/4 Player Story Encounter (40 SS) I made a quick handout to cover some of the specifics. A lot of our players are still learning the game and haven't even played some of these formats. As a result, we'll be easing off some of the Gaining Ground guidelines. PM me if you have any questions.
  5. Awesome work. Love the vivid colors. Very clean looking. Can we get some close up pics?
  6. Over the past few months, a friend and I have been giving a lot of demo games. 40k is easily the most popular game...err only tabletop game people actively play in our area. We're not fans. Most people that we give demos to end of loving Malifaux and buy a starter. Despite that, people still wouldn't play on a regular basis. To combat the inactivity, I ended up starting an escalation league that was heavily billed as a new player league. The goal was to introduce the players to each other and to get them more active. There are currently 2 local game stores that carry Malifaux (working on the other 2). To accommodate everyone, I decided to run the league entirely through Facebook. I made it free for people to play and I'm throwing in a Miss Terious, Miss Step, and Miss Ery as prize support (had some extras). Here are the rules I came up with: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AQ0B2rQrnxQwVJS-B8AUOSO9Z4Ev2ne5j8NmKu4k1LU/edit?usp=sharing We just started week 2. Excluding myself, we have 18 players and almost all of them are new. Because so many participants are new, I'm requiring the use of the same master through the length of the campaign. I want the new players to learn their masters' strengths a weaknesses. I'm fairly new to organized Malifaux play myself. For future leagues, what sort of tweaks, changes, themes, etc... would experienced organizers suggest? How have other people run a league? Once this is over, what's a good next step to keep the interest alive? People being seen regularly playing is already generating more interest, so I'd like to keep the momentum going. Along those lines, what did someone (or store) do to keep Malifaux alive and well in your area? Thanks, -Meeker
  7. Thanks for the clarification.
  8. Over the past few months I've been giving out a lot of demo games, letting the new players use Rasputina. One thing that has caused confusion are attack actions that do not have a symbol denoting the attack as a Close Attack ( ) or Projectile Attack ( ). Rasputina's Biting Chill action is such an attack. Silent One's Freeze is another example. For the life of me I can't find anything in the book specifically about them. This is how I've interpreted these actions in the past: May still be used while engaged as they do not have the Projectile Attack symbol ( ). Does not randomize when targeting an engaged model, again because they do not have the Projectile Attack symbol ( ). Does not count towards the model's engagement range because they do not have the Close Attack symbol ( ). May not be used as attacks generated as the result of a charge, again because they do not have the Close Attack symbol ( ). Is this correct? Did I miss anything? Thanks, -Meeker
  9. Our gaming club is trying to kick off Malifaux although most of our members focus on GW games. We are just a few hours south in Richmond so if you ever want to organize an event, there or in Richmond, just shoot me a PM.
  10. Hey all! I'm with a local gaming group in Richmond, Va. We focus primarily in GW games but I thought I'd give Malifaux a try. I must say I love the game and have had a lot of fun playing it. Right now I have a Kirai and will probably add another gang in the near future so I can run demos. Now I just to to get everyone else in the club to pick up a set. -Meeker
