Over the past few months, a friend and I have been giving a lot of demo games. 40k is easily the most popular game...err only tabletop game people actively play in our area. We're not fans. Most people that we give demos to end of loving Malifaux and buy a starter. Despite that, people still wouldn't play on a regular basis. To combat the inactivity, I ended up starting an escalation league that was heavily billed as a new player league. The goal was to introduce the players to each other and to get them more active. There are currently 2 local game stores that carry Malifaux (working on the other 2). To accommodate everyone, I decided to run the league entirely through Facebook. I made it free for people to play and I'm throwing in a Miss Terious, Miss Step, and Miss Ery as prize support (had some extras).
Here are the rules I came up with: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AQ0B2rQrnxQwVJS-B8AUOSO9Z4Ev2ne5j8NmKu4k1LU/edit?usp=sharing
We just started week 2. Excluding myself, we have 18 players and almost all of them are new. Because so many participants are new, I'm requiring the use of the same master through the length of the campaign. I want the new players to learn their masters' strengths a weaknesses. I'm fairly new to organized Malifaux play myself. For future leagues, what sort of tweaks, changes, themes, etc... would experienced organizers suggest? How have other people run a league? Once this is over, what's a good next step to keep the interest alive? People being seen regularly playing is already generating more interest, so I'd like to keep the momentum going.
Along those lines, what did someone (or store) do to keep Malifaux alive and well in your area?
Thanks,
