  1. Let me start by saying I love the new plastics, they are amazing. I have assembled almost all of the 2nd edition crews except for Lilith & the arcanists. Overall I think the scale is much more consistent than the metals were. If you look at the old metals the scale was all over the place. Lady Justice was a giant amazon next to the rest of her crew, Leveticus was so tiny Rusty Alice towered over him, & Kirai who should have been a bit petite was bigger than many of the other masters just to name a few. In the plastics, giant Viktorias aside since we know they were a mistake, the only model that really seems out of scale is the crouching death marshal. Certain models are different sizes, but so are people. For example in the Latigo set Santiago is huge & Nino is a little bit smaller than the others, but fluff-wise this makes sense. I was hoping the switch to plastic would make the scale more consistent & for the most part it has. Models not fitting on the base is another issue all together. It is my pet peeve when a model stretches onto the lip of the base. The reason I love round lipped bases is that art needs a frame & the lip is the frame for the miniature. Out of all the crews I have put together Seamus' is the only one where all the minis fit inside the lip of the base (ie. Every Guild Henchmen can stand from lip to lip without touching the inside of the base). The problem is not always as big as it is with Santiago (who barely fits on a 40mm base, let alone the 30mm he comes with). Some like the canine remains, whose one paw barely hangs over the lip, wouldn't bother most people. But the problem stems from trying to get the coolest looking poses for the models. I don't really mind because I love making bases & I find having to make a creative base to make the miniature fit inside the lip to be fun. And in the end, I would take dynamically posed minis that need work to fit on the base over static minis any day.
  2. I just put them together as well. The one with 2 syringes was a little tough. I put her right arm towards the edge of the cape in the little indent & if you look close you can see there is the upper part of the left arm sculpted on the body, the lower left arm glues to the bottom of it.
  3. Hello, looking for some help in assembling Samael Hopkins. There is a small strap piece that is already shown attached to the main body in the assembly instructions, but it is separate in the kit. You can see it sticking out from his left, but it attaches in the back somehow & I cannot figure out where it goes. If anyone has assembled him & can give me some help I would appreciate it. The model is definitely my favorite out of all of the new plastics so far, so I want to finish the assembly so I can get to some paint. Thanks for any help.
  4. Nice work. I like the green shadows on the Death Marshall's coats, gives them an eerie feeling. If you want to add more highlights you can paint on top of the varnish, it would help the coffins pop more. Is that hot glue used on the December bases? If so that is a clever idea. Whatever it is it looks great.
  5. Thanks, the set is very nice. I finished Nino in one shot today, I noticed in the picture that I need to smooth out the highlights on the gun.
  6. I really like your basing for those. Very nice painting as well, makes me want to get my hands on that set to paint myself.
  7. Thanks, it was the easiest way to make him fit on the 30mm base. Santiago is pretty much done. I may go back to clean a few things up, but for now I am moving on. Perdita is getting close & I started in on El Mayor in all his Sombreroed glory Sorry for the blurry pictures camera was not cooperating tonight. Papa Loco is done as well, but I couldn't get a decent picture.
  8. What color is easier depends on your painting style. If you start with a dark color & highlight up or drybrush, black is easier to work with. If you like starting with a mid-tone & then shade or use washes, white or grey is easier. I use an airbrush to prime. I normally prime grey & then give a white "dusting" from above to start the shadows to make painting easier.
  9. Thanks. I really like the Perdita sculpt too. The more I work on it, the more I like it. Here is an WIP shot. I did more work on Santiago as well. I found my camera, but not the memory card for it :Confused_Puppet: My cell phone camera really washes out the shadows.
  10. There is no alternate head, the sombrero is just a separate piece. It actually looks much better IRL than in the art & I haven't decided if I am going to give it to him or sculpt some hair on the missing part of his head. Originally I thought there was no way I would use it, but after replacing the sword I'm starting to like the way it looks. Overall I still don't really care for the figure, I just don't like the pose & it's too wide to fit inside the base, the only thing I like about it over the other artwork for Fransisco is the bell-bottom mariachi pants. I love the art in the rulebook & hope they offer an alternate model at some point.
  11. I'm channeling my inner Seamus... Arise my sweet! It has been a very long time since I have painted anything, but M2E has renewed my interest with all of the nice new plastic crews. I picked up the Latigo set & started working on it right away. Please excuse the picture quality, I misplaced my camera so its cell phone pictures. Started with Papa Loco, almost done with him. Trying to decide what color to paint his shirt, I'm thinking a dark color, maybe red for a bit of contrast. Anyone have any suggestions. Santiago is my favorite mini in the set, here's an early WIP for him. Rest of the set waiting for paint. I'm still finishing up the conversion in Francisco, trying to make his dueling sword more like the one in the rulebook art. While I am a really slow painter I am trying to get this crew finished before Christmas, Santa is bringing me the plastic Lady J, Sonnia, Seamus, McMourning, & Pandora crews so I need to clear the painting table C&C always welcome
  12. As I understand it there cannot be any undercuts in the molds for plastic models so some pieces have to be separate. I too just assembled the Latigo set & for example the reason Perdita's holster was separate is because the handle of the gun would have caused an undercut (that's why the empty holster is part of her leg). I will admit sometimes the parts are split at weird spots, but undercuts are the reason.
  13. Nice to know he is supposed to be that large. He is my favorite model from the Latigo set. My simple solution to make him "fit" on the 30mm base was to cut the rock off from his foot. Now he looks like he is charging blasting everything in sight
  14. I Love your style. One of the best looking showgirl crews I have seen. & To Rameses the other one is a CMON miniature: Abigale, Steampunk Hunter
  15. Steal away! I just filled the slot of the base with putty & then sanded the whole base smooth. I used p3 paints to paint it. It is based with a mix of black & beaten purple. The main swirls are Beaten purple, highlighted by adding carnal pink & shaded by adding black. The smaller swirls are done with Sanguine Base, again adding the carnal pink to highlight & black to shade. Once I was finished I washed the whole thing with a mix of blue & red ink to make a deep purple ink (I use Andrea Color inks, but any will do). Also after starting to assemble the thunders box set, the models are mostly really nice. Ototo is HUGE! My only gripe is Shang, the two tail pieces just don't go together well at all & it is way too big for a 30mm base, it would barely fit on a 40mm base.
