  1. You've convinced me not to get Killjoy since I own Bette already. I agree the lack of corpses hurts so I'll stick with my current build. I might proxy just to try it, but thanks for all the insight!
  2. Apparently, I was mistaken. I paid too many SS for Killjoy, meaning I could get my Necro in at 30ss. Nicodem Mortimer - 7 Killjoy - 11 Bette - 9 Necropunk - 3 Moving to 35ss game add one more necropunk, or possible 2 canine remains to get corpse counters going.
  3. Yeah I agree. I can see the above being strong, just lacking corpse counter. Bringing mortimer means fewer models/counters to start (until you can bring them in). Both lists are kind of a one trick pony with a very serious weakness. I believe Mortimer is more useful too, but to each his own. I do like the idea of being able to bring a Necropunk at 30ss instead of 35 though...interesting ideas.
  4. The point being you wouldn't have any corpse counters nearby to take advantage of if they went straight for Nicodem. You dropping Mortimer earns you 2 necropunks, not exactly the 'horde' i hoped for. At 35 ss though I agree 1 or 2 if I drop the vulture would work nicely, and still give me mortimer. I agree more necros would be fun, just really concerned about corpse counters, as he NEEDS them badly.
  5. Yeah, I totally missed Necropunks 'slow to die' being vital for triggering Killjoy's sacrifice ability. I didn't think about it. I don't think I'd try this unless it was a 35ss+ game then. The vulture moving 10" and needing 1 activation is nice n all, but torn. Also, I think Mortimer would be big since it's the only way Nico can get corpse counters early on (if anyone starts shooting him, he'd have a problem...zombie fodder and summoning 'other' models would be vital). I mean, if I was an opponent you could almost IGNORE bette and KJ once they're tied up and go for Nicodem. Having corpse counters seems vital...maybe even dog's.
  6. So I'm tempted to try it anyway, but the list would look like this: Nicodem Vulture Mortimer Killjoy Bette That's 30 SS cost, and in a 30ss game leaves nico with a 3 cache, in a 35ss game I could bring a necropunk to assure delivery. Basically it's simple. Use the Vulture to companion Nicodem move vulture into position, sacrifice and drop both Killjoy and Bette from the result. Then move nicodem UP and bolster undead (granting both killjoy AND bette +2 defense and +2 cb). The equivalent of a ressurectionist nuke. The purpose for Mortimer is to create counters as you're moving up and assist in the counter shortage.... Thoughts?
  7. So other than lacking corpse counters, how effective do you think this would be. Nicodem Vulture Mortimer Bette Killjoy Equals 30 SS, so in 30 SS game he has a cache of 3, or in a 35 SS game I could bring a canine (maybe necropunk), or another vulture. Basically first vulture is to deliver Killjoy and Bette in one fell, attack...Mortimer is to assist with bringing corpse counters up over time, and vulture can companion nicodem to bring him forward and BOLSTER both killjoy AND bette after sacrificing the vulture. The idea to drop the Ressurectionist NUKE.
  8. Thanks for all the awsome replies! So it sounds like I DO need the crooked men, belles, Grave spirit, and the rogue necromancy to have better options for what I can field. I didn't realize the autopsies didn't drop counters!? I was thinking initially a large 'cheap' models other than Bette, Mortimer, and convict gunslinger that I PAY for around a 35pt battle. Rest would have been filled with dogs and whatever...i like the idea the belles make nico faster...that's big.
  9. I'm being told to avoid Crooked men, even though they work well with bells. Bells are more Seamus' thing. I'm told Desperate mercenary and Guild Autopsy's which just came out are better to have. Especially at the start, more CHEAP models (and RANGED), when they die it's all good. Also told some 4 corpse model which has 3 heads (which hasn't come out yet) is something I need to keep an eye out for? Any idea when it's released? Also Vultures really haven't impressed me I might not be maximizing them...I'm honestly thinking about a grave spirit? 2 armor for nicodem seems awsome for 1pt? I also bought 4 dogs, but haven't been thrilled with them. Was almost considering Necropunks since they can hold objectives, but I dunno...maybe having the dogs is nicer since they DIE and more counters kind of thing? I have Bette and not KJ so I don't need a KJ delivery system
  10. I have the Viks, 3 Ronin, Convict gunslinger, and the student of conflict. I seem to get wasted every time. Once you close in to do some combat, they just wipe a vik out (in 30ss game I have cache of 7). So easy to kill! Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel or see the power of the viks. I've been told Taelor is a good beat stick because of the 3" range and such, told to drop student too, but I haven't looked at any other models to make them better? Like anything super worth it in book 2, etc?
  11. WASHES, washes, washes! I am with you, I've only painted for the last year and my buddy who paints well gave me some AMAZING pointers. I find my models come out just fine now! The tips he taught me (without going into severe detail) Washes: Basically a watered down paint or pre bought wash. This darker color will settle into the crevices and add shadow/depth. Example: I painted skin, then I might do a GW sepia wash on top (which is kind of like a muddy brown). This not only adds a good depth to it, but the higher areas maintain their skin coloring. Drybrushing: Sloppy, but very effective! Great technique for sloppy highlighting. Basically dip your brush in paint, and then WIPE it off (pretty much all off) onto a paper towel (do this with a CHEAP brush, i use a specific drybrush brush, it will ruin it). You do this with lighter colors. Example: Metal gun, painted with a darker metal color, washed to show depth, but then you highlight a lighter metal on the edges to make it seem like it's reflecting. Etc. Highlighting: Directly painting the raised edges with a lighter color. Careful with this, as you can apply too much very easily. This is why I prefer drybrushing. Undercoat: This really determines how much your model pops. Black undercoat will be dark no matter what you paint on it. White undercoat will make it pop like an anime cartoon (hate that personally). I use a darker grey undercoat and gives me good balance. Don't be in a hurry. You spent good money on them, play with them unfinished. Think about how you want it to look before you start. I'm not visionary so I cheat and use google images to get scheme ideas, colors, etc. There are also TONS of great guides to tricks, and schemes of painting. Personally I needed my hand held to get started, so if you know any local gaming stores or clubs go there and seek help. Bring you paints and get a lesson! Someone is always willing to help get someone else addicted to the hobby Good luck.
  12. Well it depends on how long you want the game to be, how in depth, etc. I played a 40ss game the other night and had a blast. Lots of models. On that note our club plays mostly 30ss since that's what many people can comfortably field. But 35ss isn't out of the question. 25ss is really a starting point only imo.
  13. How about surgically implant metal BITS that were in the drill bit, DEEP into your hand...and the painful process of removing such small pieces! :nurse:
  14. I like the idea of taking taelor to get some heat from the viks. Makes sense. I also think waiting til turn 3 would make the difference! I was noticing the Viks can outmove their crew too easily and ditching the crew to leave them hanging wasn't a good idea, so what I need to do is wait to pounce. Makes a quite bit of sense! I'll try those next, any other tips welcome!
  15. So I've played 4 games with my Viks and been straight out SLAUGHTERED each game. I must not be seeing something here, or playing them very wrong, etc. The Viks are seeming pretty lackluster for me so far. I've been playing 30ss games with this matchup: 2 Viks 1 Student of Conflict 3 Ronin 1 Convict 7ss cache Played Nico, Karai, and a couple other masters I can remember. Anyways, long story short I'm getting STOMPED. The entire crew is a bit squishy and can't survive getting attacked well at all. I did find I charged and didn't SHOOT much (is that a mistake?) So, that said I can't seem to find a tactics thread for the Viks on here. I'm getting disheartened in them. After a few things I've seen not sure what route to go. I'm told Taelor would be a good idea but don't want to add another to a lost cause. Also noticing things like Viks don't have zero abilities like other masters, ronin being kinda spendy for what they are, no healing for being quite squishy, etc. Ronin have also been lackluster too... Any suggestions would be great!
  16. WAIT, really!? I need to read the card again, but I had no idea 2 canines counted as a CAPTURING model?
  17. FYI, Nicodem being my first crew. I'm still sticker shocked about all the models I need to buy to truely field him well. The resurrectionist crews really need a TON of models even at 25ss so you have a range you can summon from. I've seen other crews be easier to learn...don't get me wrong, FUN, just spendy
  18. No, only if a dog receives companion from something (example: Mortimer), then does the pack instinct ability trigger. They do not have companion or can they trigger it alone Unless I'm missing an errata somewhere, that's how the card is written.
  19. We're talking about Canine remains and using Companion on them. Mortimer has a zero action to companion an undead model. What other models in the resurrectionist group can Companion dogs, to start the pack mentality? That was the question.
  20. 3 ways? I only know Mortimer can make them companion, who else?
  21. My mission was reconnoiter, and her's was claim jump (center table). Couldn't avoid her well...and I learned to late my dogs didn't count towards holding reconnoiter!
  22. Thanks, I'll have to go for that rematch!
  23. Thanks a ton, i have a better understanding of how to use her more effectively!
  24. UGH! I was voted against this being told it's a WP test/duel and not an 'attack' like Ranged 'attack', melee 'attack', etc. Is there any place to reference that? Nico was taken out turn 4 because of this
  25. Thanks for the tips. Couple of questions. 1) Why soulstones to heal? Wouldn't that just do 2 healing even if the 5 template hit him, so why soulstone it? 2) I did try to kill the sorrows, he kept healing with Candy, but i did kill off about 3 sorrows and teddy by end of game (although I was tabled). The big problem was the unlimited Pacify/WP tests. He pushed pandora 4" each time I failed to basically IN the center of my crew. Then he cast pacify on pretty much my whole army causing almost every model to take 3 dmg points for two turns. For a zero action that just seemed overpowered as she cast 3 more spells after that...i mean seriously.
