  1. So, I'm new to the world of miniatures and Malifaux looks like an amazing place to start.... That said I'm not really sure where to start.

    So, yea. Howdy ^_^

Well, if you are going to play the game, you need the rulebook. So, I would start there and figure which faction appeals the most. and pick a starter box from that faction and get some games in.

If you just like the minis and want to paint /collect, well then....spend some time on the online store and pick a few or a boxed set if you like to get more minis for your buck.

    Oh yeah...and welcome....and Howdy!

  2. Im sitting next to a battle foam case right now it has lasted through so much, they are durable, sides are rigid, foam is just the right consistancy, and thinking that a sheet of foam from BF goes for around fifteen your not actually paying alot for a bag like this, Ive dropped my bag from a two story building and nothing was damaged inside these bags are awesome, and I stand by the price my case is smaller and cost abour the same, the fact foam is included is a plus! If im spending a few hundred on a game as a whole seventy more to keep all of my time and money investments safe is well worth it. well thats my two cents.

I love the bags too....but TWO STORIES? Really? Why?

  3. For skirmish-level games like Malifaux, I'm a big fan of the oldie-but-goodie chessex hard plastic case: http://www.chessex.com/figure%20boxes/Figure_Storage_Boxes.htm

For my bigger armies, I've always used Sabol. I'm a fan of the pick-and-pluck foam for customization on the fly.

    Jim

Just a note. Battle foam does make pluck foam as well. A better version pluck foam than most (if not all) in my opinion. The walls are sturdier. I don't care what bag you're using if the foam is bad. You're figs are doomed.

Not at Jim: And I'm still not convinced on the bad customer service. Yes, I've had one bad experience. But BF handled it. it sounds to me like someone just woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day or was ticked off that the order wasn't right and all the customer service in the world wouldn't pacify him/her . Which I can understand. But, I always take second hand accounts with a grain of salt.

  4. a friend of mine told me the customer service for them though nice with the lifetime warrenty is very "feck off we don't need you as a customer" when you complain. Which when customer service is that shite I honestly would go somewhere else.

I had the opposite occur. I had to call them once when the wrong tray got shipped with my bag and they were very appologetic and sent the correct tray out immediately.

  5. |If I remember correct from showing the game recently and thus having to flip through the book a good bit... You can use TWO teddys in a Brawl... just not a scrap. So having two might work out for ya depending on the size of the fight you're picking.

Hellojohn is correct. If you are playing a Brawl sized game then 2 is acceptible. Haven't had much Brawl play so I forget that. As far as trade, I have a Mortimer the graverobber that would fit nicely in your Ressurectionist crew. I also have a Nicodem. But, that would be a second master that you would only use in a Brawl sized game. I'd be willing to do either one for the voodoo doll.

I would assume the teddy will remain in your crew for Brawl sized games. But, if you decide to let him go, let me know and I'll find some more stuff to trade for him. I have a single rotten belle and a single zombie samurai punk I could throw in with one of the two above (they were thrown into another trade. Not sure why the person had two single minis floating around)

  6. I've done Reaper, GW, Sabol and even my own toolbox cases with magnetic bases. I will definately invest in the Battle Foam. I've had my Battle Foam case for 2 years now. It's perfect. Fits in the required size bin for airlines and has never failed me. The foam is still in excellent shape. I travel a lot and my figs have to come with.

My Sabol case got crushed and damaged some figs, GW foam disolved for some reason. Reaper....foam is garbage. Case is pretty good. But, I will not buy a case from another company until they can prove they put more thought into their cases and the people buying them than Battle Foam has.

I spend too much time assembling and painting my figs to put them at risk and I'm ALWAYS confidant that my figs will arrive safe at whatever destination I'm going to. The price is justified. I will grant you that the case is a little big for most Malifaux players as they don't have more than maybe 3 crews. Me, I'm a collector. So, I will have them all at some point and already have 8 crews. So, it's fantastic for me.

In fact, I will probably sell some unused 40K to afford to get some custom trays done as I love their Space Hulk trays. Those fiddly little parts on the Terminators have survived a TON of carrying around in those trays. I don't think they would have in anything else.

But, it's not for everyone and I understand being on a budget. However, if you're judging without having seen one in person, I would do whatever I could to check one out. They are the best on the market hands down.

  7. Thanks for the compliment. Everyone should feel free to use the idea. It's not copywrited so it's not stealing lol.

The bits I used are a barrel set from Games Workshop, some ruins that were included in the previous edition of 40K and a camping set from Reaper. But, one could just as easily make some sculpy rocks or such.

  8. Okay. I know it's been done before. But, I took a slightly different spin on things.

Rather than trying to attach the magnets to the spiders themselves, I found pieces of scrap that could easily hold a strong rare-earth magnet and then pinned the arachnid to the scrap pieces. Then I drilled a hole for the magnet mounts in the scrap pies and the individual bases and the swarm bases. They turned out pretty good in my mind.

The only thing I wish is that I would have been a little more patient and took more time when I planned the placement of the spiders on the scrap and the scrap on the swarm base. They look a little funky. but, I wanted to give the spiders a scuttling/swarming look so I have them on the sides of things. I should have mounted the scrap pieces first on the swarm base with magnets to find a placement that worked and then pinned the spider on.

But, I will probably do a few more swarms. So, I will take my lessons and apply them next time. These guys are ready for priming and painting. Sorry about the crap pics. I only had my camera phone. I'll try and take some better pics once I get them painted.

Cheers all. Hope to meet some of you soon.

  10. better designed stat cards (similar to most other minigames like Warmachine/Confrontation) that can fit in regular sleeves.

As an aging gamer....I appreciate the cards just the way they are. Nice clear text at a font I can read and all the rules are there.....pure awesome in my book. One of the reasons I don't play WarMachine is the cards. Not the only reason mind you. But, a big one.

  11. Howdy chris. I'm at Black Sun Games on tuesdays after 6 usually. If you're on the forums there, I'm Shadowopal there as well. I'm just starting as well and would love to get a bunch of games in so I can apply to be a henchman for the store. I think the game has awesome potential and I'm started on collecting the set.

  12. Very bright! I like that. The red hair on the Mature is interesting. Not where I would have gone with it. But, it kinda works the more I look at it.

I have to agree. The sword is a bit off for me. It really steals the whole mini's focus. I realize it's a big freaking sword. But, I would have gone more subtle on the color scheme on it. But, that's just me.

The team has a great cohesion and I think you've done a great job. Thanks for sharing.
