  1. Yea most likely need someone like him as clean up duty. I like Ortegas but they seem to lack enough volume of fire to kill fast enough undead hordes. They easily and quickly kill all models that can't come back, so it always seems like the opponent has nothing left but Belles and Seamus. Let the ortegas snipe everything, and the let executioner roll in and cut the army to pieces. Sounds good
  2. Yes the low damage doesn't seem to be much of an issue, course it's not normal gun shots, but the sheer ability to hit your opponent from so far without penalty can really make up for it. Get two in a position close enough and they can just horde an opponent with 4 attacks that can easily add up for big damage.
  3. Now that the models are coming out, are more folks going to be using these much more? It seems odd that few lists seem to ever include them when they are just so good. People just not liking to proxy I suppose. No los or cover needed for excellent ranged attacks? Can do one 18" attack with possible crits basically hiding behind a terrain object? Put two hidden away and commanding each other seems pretty cheesy. The damage is not that amazing but the sheer range and not having to even see the enemy seems quite beardy and something most people are going to want to be stacking in their guild lists.
  4. Yea I meant Belle heavy crews. Always can't seem to kill them fast enough with Ortegas at least so far. With the hard to wound and 8 wd each, they usually take concentrated fire to bring down that it seems as soon as I take one down, Seamus is just bringing it back. I usually don't play LJ as much so I will probably have to try more undead killing tailored list.
  5. As a guild player I find Hard To Wound better at least it is when my opponent has it. I've had such a hard time taking out Hard to Wound heavy armies like Sheamus and his undead hookers who I have to plink away it seems always. Armor is usually easy to get past if your guild since so much of our stuff has Critical Strikes and average armor is 1 so it kinda evens out.
  6. There are definite balance issues, though I think it's in large part to the whole style of armies/masters which create a very Paper/Rock/Sciccors environment to play. A particular master can sometimes just trump a certain other one because of it's ability/skill sets. It's kind of a toss up in which you can have a great list and suddenly get shut down by a specific master being put on the table.
  7. As a former retailer, this is a very common thing sadly for gaming. Gaming distributors generally... suck. So many game products come and go and they have lot of fear of getting stuck with inventory. Unless its a really popular game like Warmachine or a WotC product, they generally don't do much restocking of a product line. You have to basically have lot of different distributor accounts set up to basically dig out stock of anything. Problem also is that lot of the distributors are fairly good sized companies, but retailers only talk to some sales rep who really just wants to take orders and push onto you the new arrivals or "sales". You can ask for them to restock something, but does this ever get to anyone who actually does the ordering? And it all just hurts the LGS, since people can't get something in store, they go online and find it easy and at a big discount.
  8. It can be a bit overpowered really, in such a small scale game with limited turns, the loss of 3 turns for many models is basically like them being removed from the match.
  9. Would be nice, but it would make for one giant expensive book.
  10. So playing guild, have a good mix of everything but wondering what is the best way of dealing with horde of zombie lists. They seem to be very tough to deal with and spamming tons of zombies with Nico and Seamus is hard to get past the wall of dead. The obvious Lady Justice team stuff would seem best, but it doesn't really seem to work as well in practice with the Ressurectionist just pumping our way more undead than one can handle, and basically wasting actions and time trying to kill all the undead losers instead of killing the important stuff, or getting objectives.
  11. Book 2 awesome! Hopefully most if not all the minis from book 1 are out around book 2's release. Can't wait for new model previews, or at least some art.
  12. And majority of it boils down to ruling as written in the book or common sense. Such a thing can happen to any game as large as that when it goes to such a high competitive standard. Sadly the game has gone off into deep "hardcore" gaming territory with a more sports like atmosphere. It's like how you have a simple game like Baseball, yet there is a giant manual which is essentially a faq for it used by the MLB. The rules can fit on one page, yet you got a small bible of rulings to go with it? It's sad really how the community has shaped that game though, so much of the fun was sucked out of it to make it seem more like a sport by being a "competitive tourny" game. Errata is a different thing as well and more in line with the original posts author's concerns. Malifaux has around 100 models.... currently about 69 of them have errata of some form on them.
  13. They do issue errata and faqs on a regular basis, they don't deny nothing. I do know this, and really, it is nothing wrong with the rules, it's simply playing as written. I can name countless games where similar odd things exist for the sake of following the rules. Some will see it as an error, some just see it as them ignoring it I guess. It tends to just fall into trappings of personal preference. Not everything in Malifaux makes logical sense, I don't expect it too, but often things will fall down the rule as written territory. You get difference in games which cause differences in how they are approached. In skirmish games specifically, you have a much more detailed ruleset generally than a wargame, so you encounter lot more unique situations that will get simply ignored with games like Flames of War of Warhammers. One thing you also get is that sometimes rulings tend to sometimes be made on the side of trying to make sense or be "realistic" to the situation, which ends up with lots of errors and errata. While you got a game like say, AT-43 where stuff wont make sense, but instead of issuing an errata, they will basically have you stick to RAW. Malifaux, I can understand the situation it's in because it's new and first time for the developers, so the way they are handling it makes sense, but to others it might not be seen that way. Already have seen hold outs because of what they perceive as "quality issues" for example.
  14. I've never found a game that killed my interests. I love gaming too much and constantly want to play more and more. I play too many games perhaps, but I don't care, I think theirs so much love to go around in the hobby. It bugs me when people have an over protective attitude to a specific game or not willing to try other things. Do I like some games more than others? Sure, and there's games I totally have hated, but I will always try something new. We started up Malifaux recently.... but also building up a Battle Fleet Gothic group, buying into Firestorm Armada, and also just got in a shipment of stuff for Secrets of the Third Reich. Oh and am definitely buying into Dust Tactics and Leviathans when they are released after Gencon this year!
  15. Yes but that was a very shocking and unexpected result. Not even the players involved plan on it, most of the people at the event had no clue either since nothing like that has ever happened before. It's also a very rare occurrence that is unlikely to happen often at all as it required very specific conditions to be met. It's not really a loop hole or anything that 99% of the player base would ever encounter since it requires such specific conditions to be met by both players. No rule set is 100% concrete, but some are more solid than others or have at least had time to be refined to a point. There is a definite difference between a games core rules being solid, over simple issue involving specific armies or units. Lot of games I've seen have great rule sets, but the game would break down because they would poorly handle specific model rules and game balance issues related to them. People asking about updated rulebooks and such are simply wanting a refined product with understandably takes time to make, a company can't simply pop out new books over night, nor afford to do such a thing most likely.
