  1. This is completely ridiculous, and I don't believe you for a second. Wyrd has the most detailed and dynamic sculpts I've ever seen in plastics. What you are saying amounts to "Wyrd doesn't care what their models look like, and they are happy to irritate their customer base."
  2. The only balance issue with Outcasts that I can see is in competitive play. If a tournament asks you to pick a faction, Outcasts have more options (or so it would seem). If you had to restrict army selection to one of their themes, you have far less options than the other factions.
  3. Great idea, and nice execution. I was thinking, putting chairs around the tables would really get in the way of bases. Why not set it upp like the theater's closed for the night? You could have stacks of chairs that act like blocking terrain, but only provide soft cover for LOS. Changed my mind. You could see through them, but they might provide armor. So furniture should be no neg twist to the flip, but Armor 1 to dudes behind it.
  4. Love the GP color scheme, superb layering!
  5. We ran one that was tons of fun and seemed to work well. However, the player turnout was very low, so it might not work for everyone. We started with 25ss lists. Players couldn't play the same opponent back to back more than 2 games in a row. The TO filled in to give people more variety of play, but was ignored in the final results. We raised the crew limit by 5 every two weeks, ending with 35ss crews. I allowed 2 proxy models per crew to encourage people to try new playstyles. Next time we have a league (probably kickoff around Halloween) here's my plan: Crews start at 25ss. Narrative multiplayer mini-campaign scenarios for kickoff, midway through, and conclusion. When you win, your next crew must use the same Master. For every match you've lost, you get 1 bonus ss to spend on crews. I'm hoping that this allows people to ramp up slowly and naturally. Sure it makes no sense in a story-based campaign, but it might give new (or crappy) players a handicap to work with. And it will let me reward most consecutive wins, give giant-killer bonuses, etc.
  6. I can tell you that during playtesting, everyone worked their @$$es off to make sure that new models were not too powerful, old models were not made obsolete, and a balance of power was maintained as much as possible.
  7. I pinned nothing and it came out just fine, even survived a 3-foot drop (accidental, of course!) I used krazy glue with accellerant on every seam. The only bit I used GS on was the big gap on the back. Even got him to open his mouth wider.
  8. Practice, practice, practice. Get yourself some cheap figures, even old Clix or D&D models will work. Practice detail on them so you don't wreck those $14.99 models. Learn to use washes and inks, as these take care of a lot of detail work for you. And read every painting toot that sounds interesting.
  9. Shhh... *yawn* nothing to see here... go back to sleep...
  10. Q.F.T. Have you tried shining up the bare metal for metallics? Works great for sword blades and big flat areas, which happen to be the spots where metallics can get distracting. Use super fine grit sandpaper and buff it to a smooth finish, then give it an Armor Wash.
  11. Alemon, you answered your own question in the original post. Gaming is like sex. If they're complaining, you're doing something wrong. Fix it or get a new partner. Why are your games so long? Too much meta? Stubbornly fighting out a lost cause? Don't know rules or crews? Here are my top tips: 1. Play smaller-sized games, 25-30 SS. ESPECIALLY if there are rules questions or you're trying out new models. 2. Don't worry about your opponent's crew. Go through the Strategies and build a list for each. It's not like the scenario is a surprise in this game! 3. When someone's not having fun, they should concede and play a new game. Multiplayer - Play 2 against 1. This will speed up the game a LOT and ensure nobody has too much down time. Good luck, and HAVE FUN!
  12. Zorlath, you think it would be better to shut down all production and put everything on hold until problems get resolved? That seems like a good way to kill a company.
  13. Except for the fact that problems could pop up when sculpting or casting a model. I agree it would be NICE if we had all the models in hand before the next book hits, and they should schedule the releases as such. But teaser figs like Jack Daw are great and get people speculating about future releases. Which is more fun than twiddling your thumbs until the last couple of figs turn up.
  14. Rules PDF for sale? Great. Quick-start rules sheet, like WM Mark 1? Cool. Releasing the fluff as free pdf? That is about the most cheapskate idea I've heard in awhile. Pony up the cash, folks! Wyrd products are about the best quality books on the market for the money. Wanna get people hooked on the backstory? Point them to those wonderful Chronicles off to our left. Those are what converted me from jaded skeptic to die-hard fanatic.
  15. I really like the card flipping idea. Each player has a deck, and a hand equal to their level. This may be reshuffled by the player at will after any flip. Instead of arbitrary number of cards to draw, they draw a number of cards equal to that stat. Skills provide the suit and/or add their value, plus 2 if the card used is already suited. This could also provide triggers and allow multiple actions in one movement. Example: sneaking past a snoozing Guild guard. DM sets the target at 9:crows. Your Nimbleness stat is 3 (average), so you draw three cards. You have the Stealth skill of 2:crows. You draw a 4:rams, 7:rams, and 10:masks. No :crows, but your skill provides it. Take the 10, you add 2 from the skill and slip past undetected. This time, you want to sneak up and slit his throat before he wakes up. DM sets target of 11:crows:rams. Pretty tough! Same character flips 4:rams, 11:masks, 8:tomes. Your total is 13:crows:masks. You manage to sneak up, but fail to kill the guard. Go into combat rounds. Now to work out a basic stat line. Since Malifaux works with a deck, there should be either four or eight basic stats so they get split up among suits. Gotta go to my crying baby, more later (maybe)...
  16. Excellent work, thanks for the resources!
  17. Malifaux already has characterful strategies and schemes, and "pre-fab" characters. I don't see what your idea brings to the table that Wyrd doesn't already do. Sounds like you're trying to make a game that's really more like 5 DM's sitting around planning an adventure. The whole point of ROLE playing is taking on the persona of a character. You take that away, well, call it what you want, but it's not an RPG. Neither were Mordheim & Necromunda.
  18. It has nothing to do with 2nd edition Malifaux. It IS completely new models for EVERY faction, and new rules for henchmen, strategies, schemes, and setup. You NEED book 1 for the core rules. Again this is not 2e.
  19. I'd allow only 5-10 minutes to construct crews and have all models ready to deploy. Can't add fast enough? Fine, make some lists ahead of time based on particular strategies. Nobody said you can't. Allowing more time will only piss off the other players waiting to start the round. I HIGHLY recommend everyone just breathe for the next couple hours until we find out what's in Book 2. Many of the new strats & schemes we playtested were ridiculously cool and characterful, and the format is much more balanced and conducive to tournament play. I would say more, but I'm not at GC and don't know what made the cut and what didn't. Suffice it to say, you thought the game was cool before...
  20. Yes we're starting to carry it, and I do orders. So if there's something you want to see in person, lmk and I'll order it for "stock" ;) Also, thanks! Baby girl is doing fine. I'll be back to the shop this Sunday for WM tournament, but a couple players from CR might be coming up for Malifaux.

  21. Rathnard & Ropetus - I couldn't disagree more. Malifaux basic rules state you build your army to fit the scenario, period. To do otherwise in this game would be silly. Adding fixed lists, even with sideboards, seems like you're trying to turn this game into a different one. Here's my attempt to refute your arguments: Money = WIN: People who want to play competitively (what I think a tournament format is referring to) need to spend more money, it's just that simple. If you just bring a Perdita box to a tournament, expect to get hosed. Does that mean you can't play the game? Nope. It just means you have to spend more than $35 to play and expect to win prizes. Why should Wyrd reward people for not buying their product? Too much time: This argument is ridiculous. If someone takes "15-30 minutes" to add to 35 or whatever, they should play a different game. Know your faction, know which models you own, and be ready to adapt. Scenario Imbalance: Wyrd is clearly coming up with new rules for tournament play. You expect crew construction to be the only changes? I wouldn't worry about the sky falling until we see ALL the new components of tournament play.
  22. No kidding? I'm in Waterloo, I work at The CORE in CF. I have 5 of my Crews painted up on display. I'm trying to get it off the ground locally, but for some reason having a tough time. I would say you should stop by some Tuesday or Thursday, but I'll be off for a few weeks on paternity leave. Hope to see you in person soon! -JON

  23. Not a bad idea for future abilities. Since most spells are based on Rst flips too, they might want to include some way to "shake off" the effects by re-Resisting it. Of course, then you'd have to keep track of what the target number was... Not a bad idea though. Ice Pillars already does this.
  24. I take offense to that. I'm a nerd, and I would much rather watch some good Afghanistanimation.
  25. Misaki not good enough for ya? Or by "non-European(Descended)" are you trying to skirt around saying "non-white?" The big thing to remember is that this is not the Wild West. The timeline diverged hundreds of years before the current setting, and we have very little idea of what's happening Earthside. No one (except Nathan) even knows where the Breach spits you out back home. The existence of magic has shifted the balance of power. The only thing we know for sure is that New York is still called New Amsterdam. Unless of course there's a new New Amsterdam. Also, we haven't seen every model from Book 2, so maybe they'll surprise you.
