  1. I just spoke with the wife, and she said she can take care of Saturday stuff, so I should be able to make it out. I want to meet the other players in the area. I can bring some dungeon, cavern, and/or mildly forested terrain. I think one of my friends would come, too. I'm pretty new to the game (only played a handful of times), so it'll be some great experience.
  2. Well, that's a 3' board that you don't start on the edge of. What is it, 8" in? Then you move 6" on turn one and are 14" in, let's assume your opponent did the same... that's 28" in, meaning there's only 8" of space in-between you. That's plenty of range to cast the spell. Sure, you can be outmaneuvered, but that wouldn't be unique to Pandora. If your opponent has a center objective, you can believe s/he will be coming that way, and all you need is that 12" range, and since it's a (0), you can even double move first and with Casting Expert still get off another spell after your long chain of (0)s.
  3. Does the store have need of terrain? I haven't ever actually played there.

  5. I was just selling some employee on it in a store near Fort Totten somewhere... Big Planet or something? It is mostly a comic store, but they have some minis and I guess they all play minis games. In any case, he was going to order the rulebook for a friend of mine, so he might be ordering more than 1, as he seemed intrigued. There are probably some people on that side of DC that know more than I do, though. And Baltimore is a big place, you must have a local population that plays.
  6. I think that would be a good deal, awarding people in come around awesome is a good thing to do.
  7. Located in the city? You mean Baltimore? I know there are plenty of places in greater DC you could find out more...
  8. I certainly wouldn't mind Pandora getting hit with some more restrictions, and I play as her and no one I've played against has played her. I think Incite/Pacify to enemies only and having to use them in a direct chain sounds good to me.
  9. Fair enough. I hadn't planned on buying and/or fielding him, but it's interesting to see the responses. Do you think there's any chance he'd actually be in errata to make him more comparable? All the errata I've paid attention to seems to clarify what's out there, and it doesn't seem like Hans needs clarification. Is Hans just one of those models that people will mostly take because they like the model, resigned to his fate as a sub-par sniper?
  10. The 8th is up in the air for me now -- I'm going to try to come out and at least watch/talk/meet, but the family is also asking for time, so you know.
  11. Welcome, and good luck finding a group! I actually don't find the rules to be particularly complex, at least not compared to other minis games. I think what makes the game complex are the models themselves (not the core rules). In any case, as an avid RPG player, I think Malifaux is a great introduction because the characters really have personality within the abilities, actions, etc.
  12. I like the board. I think you're probably correct about focusing on schemes to take a win. It can get especially annoying if you play defensively with Raspy and use pillars to help hold your opponents at bay. If he focused too much on his strategy, you could have more easily spread out to get some of the schemes, at least, it seems that way in my head.
  13. I haven't played that many games to date, and so I've only seen Marcus once. However, I have looked around at different posts about him and considered him myself. Right now, I agree with goblyn13 that he is a little limited. He does have the toolbox to change his ways, but it just doesn't seem to make him quite effective enough. It's certainly possible to win with him, and I would imagine there are a number of set-ups both terrain and strategies that he can really warm up to. He's the sort of master I'm considering after I see what beasts (if any) are in book 2. I think all the masters that can hire out of faction will only get better as the game expands.
  14. There is no max for companion that I'm aware of, so yes. Yes, if Seamus is in range they get much faster. I had this same question, too. My feeling is that the rule just says to within 3", so it could be on the far side. It felt wrong to me, though.
  15. Indeed. I read that as well. But no use planning for the future (unless it's in the beta testing) /crosses fingers.
  16. Vermin is just a designator for certain types of models. For example, many in the Resurrectionists have the identifier "Undead". The Razorspine Rattler and Hoarcats have the identifier "Beast." All the pig models have the identifier Pig. Vermin is just another one of those identifiers. I believe, at the current time, Mosquitoes are the only Vermin. Does that help?
  17. Well with So'mer, you're only taking Gremlins, Pigs, and Mosquitos. I don't actually think there's anything else that you can take at this point as his list is fairly limited. Games are usually played at 25, 30, 35, and so on levels. The most common I see are 30, but I'd imagine that changes based on where you live. As for good So'mer lists, I'd look around the forum. I think there is plenty already out there that you could find useful. Your best bet is waiting to get your rulebook and determining what you think is the most fun. Good luck!
  18. With me it was the look that had me consider adding it onto the plethora of games I play by buying the rulebook, and it was the rulebook that made me buy the models. Neat little package.
  19. I don't think a lot of people understand what small businesses can be going through. When they tell you about those great deals, do you tell them the great deal about being able to come into a place, meet people, game, and just quick flip through a book, all free? Do you offer the snack/drink option? What tends to make you the most money?
  20. I see all these comparisons to Nino, and I understand why that is, but still... if there was an Outcast model that was better than Nino for basically one point more, Nino becomes far less useful. I just don't think it's entirely fair to draw the comparisons between a "anyone can take this" model and a model that only a specific faction can take. Hans has to be thought of in terms of working with absolutely every model in the game, and Nino does not. Plenty of people seem to see Hans as at least "good enough", and at the very least, he's a sniper anyone can use. That seems pretty special to me.

    Raid!

So what's everyone's feeling on Raid? In many ways, it's case-specific, but I was wondering how people have done completing it, particularly in close games (it doesn't mean much if you're dominating).
  22. I sort of like the idea that the sniper isn't totally awesome. I mean, obviously the idea is to make every model useful for its points cost, and maybe the sniper should be a bit better... but hey, not everyone in Malifaux can be an awesome fighter. Masters took one look at Hans and thought "look at that gun, I bet he's awesome." They paid him good money/ss, and then realized the gun was all for show...
  23. Someone in my group has been working on something similar... this definitely makes life easier.
