  1. Did the paint fully dry before the wash went on? Also, how much wash did you apply? Devlan mud usually works really well with flesh and earth tones. It is pretty forgiving. Without using an actual "wash" product, many people just water down paint and use that as a wash sometimes too. It is a good method for getting color into textures - it's up there with dry brushing for how useful it is...
  2. Those starter boxes would be a fine foundation to get started and learn with. The best advice is to build your crews for the strategy and pick schemes that your crew can carry out. Combat is fun in malifaux, but its a means to an end. Playing to the strategies and schemes versus trying to slaughter every model each game is going to be much more effective. Also, even with just 2 starter boxes you have some options and can get an optimal mix of models with what you have. Malifaux is a game of very low model count (generally) and rewards building the right crew for the job.
  3. Hi poi, good question. Its not mandatory. It would mostly be a courtesy if your opponent needs a deck of cards, or if you have 2 crews and someone else wants to play. In dice based ttg's people often bring a few spare dice just in case. Same idea here.
  4. Also see the unseen bypasses all targeting restrictions. "Ignore ...any Duels required from spells or talents to target models." This would work on pandora's expose fears wp duel, or a wp duel from the harmless talent. They are required duels from a talent, so they qualify.
  5. It would be nice if it did work that way, but I'm pretty sure that it does not. Self loathing does not cause the target model to make a "strike". It just causes a negative damage flip using the models melee weapon. Even if gunfighter let's the model make melee strikes with a ranged weapon, there is no strike and no melee weapon.
  6. Still not a melee weapon. Double check the wording on self loathing. You can make model with no melee weapon bash itself.
  7. That other power is "see the unseen" I thought self loathing was melee weapon strikes only. Did abuela and the other ortegas shoot themselves?
  8. I am trying to stick with 2 factions and have been pretty satisfied with that approach. It lets me realistically choose either faction and be able to field a decent crew for that day's strategies. Thanks to low model count you don't need whole armies for each master. A couble key substitutes basically give you a different army.
  9. Just wanted to be a thread resser and bump this thread. We have times laid out for a couple of people to be running demoes, but if anyone (knowledgeable in the rules) still had interest in helping out for demos that weekend or just to volunteer some time during the tournament to solve rules disputes, it would be a huge help. Just pm me or respond to this thread if you are attending Templecon the weekend of 2/4-2/6 and you're interested. Thanks!
  10. I kind of want to mod a von schill mini to look like hulk hogan.
  11. Mental anguish can still cause the constructs/undead/nightmares to fall back. I don't think you can use "trapped in your own nightmare" on the non-living though because only living models make the terrifying check.
  12. Now aside from your plain Wp duels, there is the matter of morale duels. The box opens will not require constructs to make morale duels against terrifying models. Only Living models make morale duels. (Constructs, undead, nightmares do not have to do morale duels)
  13. i don't know if nico counts as undead during crew selection. i don't play ressers though
  14. Candy does cost you some stones, but she brings alot to the table. She has a good number of wounds, and a high Defense. Her sweets are helpful if Pandora, Candy, or Teddy get hurt and need a little healing. There's not much else in the crew that can heal everyone (and you can mimic this w doppelganger if u need to as well). You could also put a sorrow on her for martyr and have some decent protection (watch out for blasts though, cuz the sorrow's easy to hit) Her "run away home" ability is really helpful on certain boards indoor and city boards mostly. As she can grab objectives and pass through walls or terrain. Lastly, sometimes that last self loathing or two comes in handy big time to put down an enemy model. Plus, she's a casting expert.
  15. Marsupial-riffic! Nice work on the sculpting. Very creative.
  16. I'm in the process of learning the ropes with Pandora as well. Karn put together a really helpful tactica doc for her, if you have not gotten on the mailing list yet we can post the link for that thread. I have run her with mostly the starter box and sometimes a teddy so far. Candy has always been worth her points, the healing and the extra casting of self loathing are invaluable. The doppelganger is on the painting bench, but I've heard great things about her. In general, Pandora's crew is very deceptive in how much damage they do. People will be faced with willpower duels and may not bother to cheat or soulstone to avoid taking 1 pt of damage, but those damage points can add up quick. Depending on the strategy, your opponent may be better off avoiding your crew and accomplishing the scenario. I played against her the other day with the vikis and had supply wagon. If the vikis had focused just on destroying the supply wagon they might have pulled off the win, but I made the noob mistake of trying to kill pandora or the kids. The lesson: get in your opponents face and make him fight your crew in Pandora's 12" bubble, and it will hurt. Worry about the scenario and how your death of a thousand cuts crew is going to get in their way and stop them. (Disclaimer - keep pandora a little bit back and with a sorrow or candy in b2b for martyr... and some soulstones)
  17. http://wyrd-games.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3666&ppuser=2347 Not a great picture, but I used this method and made a small rug for pandora and candy to go for an inside the house or kids' room theme.
  18. Use coffee stirrers (wooden ones). You can probably acquire some for free at starbucks or buy a big bag cheap at a craft store. You can make the "planks" thinner by using a small saw, and putting some extra cuts in. Use an exacto knife to split the planks up widthwise (only saw lengthwise). And use a pen to press in some nail holes at the ends of the planks. Let me see if I can get a pic up here.
  19. I will be heading up this year and would be glad to help out. I played in the tourney at templecon last year and had a blast. Let me know what you guys are looking to set up and we can figure out the details.
  20. I haven't seen yet. I'm hoping by thanksgiving they'lll be out
  21. LCB: "No! That's impossible!" Ramos: "search your feelings. You know it to be true."
  22. I would run closer to the original box set and try to run more terror tots instead of bringing the young. The tots are cheap, fast, disposable and kill things with their blood. While on that topic, make sure you get base to base with your nephs so that they can bleed on your enemies at least. What did you play against and what made you think the crew was not so effective? Did you guys use a decent amount of terrain? Without some more info, it could be any number of things.
  23. I am just getting into pandora, but would her death of a thousand cuts and wp related effects do well against the hamelin type swarm? How tough are each of the malifaux rats?
  24. Yeah, its just a handy reminder that you have a trigger on that stat. Especially convenient since you'll be looking at the card to figure out the stat # you need for the duel.
  25. Paint is one of those things that boil down to preference. I have had good success using the P3 paints. They flow pretty well and cover well. I paint over duplicolor black primer, and they don't take a ton of coats. Also, I strongly recommend the Citadel washes, specifically Devlan Mud. That stuff is the magical pixie dust of miniature painting these days.
