  1. Wow. I really like the blonde/white take on Bette Noir. It really changes the feel of the character.
  2. Hey! Did somebody kill the robot from the Borderlands games?
  3. I just started reading Into the Steam. I'm super excited about the possible expansions of the world of Malifaux offered by this and other splat books. My question is, will we ever have access to a high res image of the world of Malifaux? The map in the book is obviously split by the book's gutter, and the image posted back in the Monday Previews tends to break down when I try to blow it up big enough to be a good reference.
  4. Well, since all of my local game stores suck eggs and do not carry malifaux, it looks like I am going to have to wait a bit longer to get my two player starter set. But in the meantime, I can daydream about how I will base them, maybe even start building some bases. My question for the group is: Can anyone tell me if all of the models are 30mm, or are some larger? From the pictures I've seen of the box art, it looks like the Scion of Black Blood could be on a 40mm base.
  5. Thanks for the thoughts, guys. I was thinking more about pre-made things, but seeing how easy you make the leaves seem, I might give that a try first. The tail part, I've got a handle on with the green stuff and pins.
  6. No. We can't help you. The mask is a big deal. Go buy all the books that Wyrd has released. At retail. Only at that point will you begin to understand. (jk masks are almost a thing that's hinted across each edition and can't really be pointed towards) The thing is, (all kidding aside) since I renewed my interest in the game this summer, I bought the first two 2nd ed books, and realized the fluff was continued from 1st edition. So I've bought all of the first edition books I didn't have (I only had the first) and read them through, plus I have the TtB books from the kickstarter. I've seen only mention and hints at the idea of wearing masks. I'm just trying to get a grasp of the wider concept, since I want to start a TtB campaign, and I want to make sure I understand the culture correctly. The concept of the masks (and the seeming causal acceptance of it) seems to me by far the oddest thing to understand, since everything else has connections to normal gaming tropes.
  7. ...specifically politician and lawyer masks. Can anyone point me in a direction for some background on this interesting cultural affectation? I imagine that doing a search for "masks" in the Malifaux forum brings up a ton of results that don't pertain to this particular issue....
  8. O.K. I'm going to start a fan fic about the old lady in the slums-- ever since her children starter their own families and stopped coming by, her friends who visit her roof every night are the only ones who stop by. She knits them little outfits. It's amazing how much a body with some extra space and a "Room to Let" sign can do to feed her friends...
  9. I'm looking for a good source of Cattails (bullrushes) for my bayou bases. I made a few myself with sewing needles and green stuff, but then I got stumped on the leaves, and thought that maybe I don't have to reinvent the wheel here. Anyone have any recommendations?
  10. Nice looking model (not sure about the use of the pillar) Am I the only one who sees "Night Terrors" and immediately begins singing the name to the the tune of The Bee Gees' "Night Fever"?
  11. Thanks for this great review. I'm hoping to get my hands on a starter set as soon as possible, because my wife said she would like to learn to play as well. I also teach high school, and some of the students are interested in the minis I paint, I thought Malifaux might be a good starter game for them, with the lower costs involved.
  12. I chose Tallghost because I'm 6'8" and I tend to haunt the forums I belong to.
  13. AH! And I missed out on the Gencon sale, so I haven't seen Into the Steam yet. This all makes sense then. I like the idea of the skill triggers, it seems to give a little flavor and individuality to the characters. Thanks for clearing things up for us! My group is excited to get together and start our own campaign, as well as take part in the Nythera events!
  14. O.K. cool, thanks for the answer. While I have your attention, two related questions: 1. Was this concept described in the books somewhere, and we just failed to find it in our mid game rush, or is it something that was made up for the character? . ..which feeds into 2. Am I right in thinking that the pregens are not just starter guys made using the system in the book? and if so, how much of a "boost" would you say they have over the average starting character?
  15. Hey all, My group just ran In the Gutter as an introduction to TtB, and we had some questions. We aren't super familiar with the rules, so we may have just missed something in the books, but we tried looking things up on the fly, and only gave up if it bogged down the play session too much (so we can look it up later.) The one that really stumped us was: Fated character Maureen Flynn has an ability called "Banjo Music" it offers an AV, and has a trigger, but there is no target number. How is it supposed to be adjudicated? (I just ruled that her target was 7, the same as if she were casting a Physical Enhancement spell.
  16. These are some great ideas! Thanks!
  17. Howdy folks. I'm re-posting this plea for help because my last version of it got spit out in the forum burp last week. My friends and I are looking to do more with TtB (we've played a one-off trial game) but we don't have a lot of time to be around a table. We are hoping to do some kind of play-by-post deal, but none of us have ever done anything like that. Can anyone suggest a format or offer tips? When I had this posted before, someone was very nice and offered some ideas about a virtual table top. I did not get a chance to thank them. But, I am looking for something that does not require us all to be on-line at the same time. (because distance isn't our only troubles, schedule conflicts are messing with us too.)
  18. AH! I see it now. Thanks Hippodruid. I tried to absorb too much rules system too quickly so we could start our campaign, and some of the earlier info got smooshed out through my ears.
  19. So what do I do when a Fate-Master Character is supposed to discard a twist card to perform an action? I am specifically thinking about the Punk Zombie's Flurry talent.
  20. Am I the only one that see the ice skating Wendigo and scary rather than Cute? Picture it. the ice rises up from the damp ground under your feet. You know something's up and turn to leave, but slide right down on your face. As you roll over to try and get up, you see it whipping across the ice at a breakneck pace, all fangs and claws. You may never even get your feet under you before it's tearing your throat out...
  21. Durchii, I really like the idea of the ice crystals on your 'tina crew. I'm thinking of similarlooke when I get aroun to mine, but I found some clear acryllic rods to use.
  22. A lot of great ideas and suggestions so far, thanks! For my gremlins, I'm defintly looking for something that I can sculpt with and add to, because I'm thinking of really soggy ground that would have little "potholes" of water in it and planks and logs thrown down to help travel. Edit: and those Ortega pics are awesome! I love the idea of using lego gears as scrap markers.
  23. +1 on the fiddler love. and the eye on the end of the telescope is pretty darn sweet too.
