  1. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo threw himself a little party to celebrate. What he was celebrating was a mystery to us all, but we joined in on the fun nonetheless. Things quieted down pretty quickly, though. After he bonked his head on the limbo bar, he was seeing stars. So, while we wrangle up his constellation prize, let’s take a look at another upcoming Master title. This time, we’re staring at the sky above with Von Schtook, Stargazer! It’s amazing how just a new perspective can shake things up. Thanks to Anna Lovelace livening up the University of Transmortis’ curriculum, Professor Albus Von Schtook has had the opportunity to crawl out from the Cistern Seven and enjoy one of his favorite hobbies: astronomy. But when he stared unto the stars for the first time in years, what he saw was not the same starscape that he had grown so familiar. Something was very, very wrong… Oh, how exciting! Rather than leaning on summoning as his previous version did, his Stargazer title brings him to new heights. Just as he looked out into the open night sky, Von Schtook is expanding his horizons with more versatility for himself and his crew to combat just about any situation, regardless of whether it comes from the battlefield or from the stars above. We could go into detail and tell you everything this starstruck professor is capable of, but why don’t we take a look at his stat card to get a better view instead? Lastly, many of you have wondered if these new Master titles will be receiving new sculpts. Of course! Do you think we’d miss out on a chance to put a headless zombie-turned-telescope into a miniature? To quote the professor himself: “Top marks, top marks!” Are you a registered student at the University of Transmortis? Will you be following Professor Von Schtook to the surface to study the stars? Let us know!

  4. Yeah, my goal for this month is to essentially demonstrate that Neverborn Marcus is WAY better than people think, and really only falls over in really top level play. And so if I beat Cracol, I will manage to both defeat a good Arcanist Marcus player AND go undefeated with Neverborn Marcus. I'd be very happy with the month! If I win (or even if I don't), I hope to make a video breaking down the strengths of Neverborn Marcus and what people should be looking to break if they want to be on the Neverborn side of things.

  5. The full Tricksy keyword Lessons learned: A lot more can be done with regard to bases. More dirt, more rotting wood, more mud, more plants, more details on the planks. Rami's base shows that. Blue jeans, white or black clothes as well as other strong colours (bright yellow) do not match well with the more natural look of, for example, the Bayou Gremlin from above. As a result, the colours for the Trickys models above are all over the place. I should have stuck to a more natural, harmonic look and will do that for the next keyword. For infamous, on the other hand, I should stick to very bright stuff, to keep it uniform. Not sure whether Gremlins should have pupils. This is a computer edit: Which one do you like better? I just have to leave this here: It says "Hello friends..."

  7. “Help me, I’m flaming. I must be a hundred and nine.” -Elvis Presley The temperature’s rising at Wyrd HQ, and even Waldo’s feeling it. He keeps asking for a Slip ‘n Slide to be installed in the warehouse. Now that I think of it that would make travel from one side to the other much quicker… Maybe he’s onto something this time. To help us beat the heat, we’re doing another Painting Contest! The theme for this one is “Hot, Hot, Hot!” Glowing hot weapons, scorching deserts, flames that spread like wildfire… we want to see it all! Miniatures can be submitted any time during the contest, though none will be showcased until the day voting begins. Submissions will be accepted from now until 11:59 pm EST (UTC -5) on July 28th, 2021. We encourage you to submit your entries early as no submission will be accepted after the cutoff, no exceptions. If you need to make any changes to your upload by July 28th 11:59 pm EST (UTC -5) please contact @Hobby Wyrd via PM on the Wyrd forum. Entries are to be submitted HERE. All entries must fit the theme. As this has a broad theme, below serves as a list of examples but is not meant to be exhaustive: Incorporate fire as a focus for the submission (such as a flame elemental, mage with fire, etc.) Depict climates/environments of extreme heat Heated metal, flaming weapons, fireballs, etc. Basically, if it would make the infamous Anasalea Kaeris’ eyes light up, go for it! As always, if you’re in doubt, you can reach out to @Hobby Wyrd for clarification. We have two (2) categories for this contest- Single Model and Diorama/Vignette. Participants may submit one (1) entry per category. Please note that our criteria for Singles and Diorama have changed. They are as follows: Singles: A single model on a base of appropriate scale or on a plinth of similar size. The single model should make up the majority of the submission and be the focus of the piece, not any additional accessories or details attached to the base. If the base is the main focus of the submission, then the submission belongs in the Diorama/Vignette category. Diorama/Vignette: This category is focused on storytelling through the use of miniatures and basing. For the purposes of Wyrd Painting Competitions, the submission uses one (1) or more figures in additional to other materials. The emphasis is on the entire piece and the scene/story being presented. Make sure to take some time to familiarize yourself with our general competition rules found HERE. NOTE: Prior to the start of voting, our contest staff reserve the right to move a submission into another category that fits more appropriately. If this occurs, affected participants will be notified via forum PM. Prizes - Each category will have the following prizes: 1st Place: $75 in Wyrd webstore credit 2nd Place: $50 in Wyrd webstore credit 3rd Place: $25 in Wyrd webstore credit Best of Awards - The Wyrd Staff will take a look at all the categories and vote to determine the winner for each of the following: Best of Hot, Hot, Hot!: $100 USD cash prize (via PayPal) - Voted on by Wyrd Staff Best of Wyrd Miniature Entry: One (1) Nightmare Box of winner's choice (from a list of available Nightmare sets) - Voted on by Wyrd Staff Voting Due to unsportsmanlike behavior in the past, I need to reiterate that the votes need to come from active forum members. We will be post restricting the polls, so only active accounts with a minimum of ten (10) posts (not all in the same day) will be able to vote.

  11. Reading your post, I think we don't disagree on the value of recycling a black joker. The ability is designed to give you back a high card and Tormented has one more than other crews. My point is more like "Yeah, that's self explainatory." In that case, the disagreement seems more about "Is that worthy of note in a guide?" and I think it's perfectly fine to have different point of views on that. If the question is: "Is it worth including a Nurse for a chance to recycle up to a black joker?" My answer is: propably not. Would it be a bad model choice overall? My answer: No, it wouldn't. A different stance on Bone Piles vs Nurses could explain a different approach to the later though, good observation. For me, Piles don't consume many corpses. One well placed corpse for their bury shenanigans and any additional ones are bonus, so they don't kill themselves. This means, markers from kills usually are enough. I don't expect them to perform the same way as with a crew like Revenant, all I need is one good teleport, condition removal/heal and a gun for whenever they have nothing better to do. Oh, I also like Numbskull, so my condition hate doesn't get disrupted by whatever condition I tech pick them against in the first place. But... If you prefer Nurses, go for it and hire her! Arguments like this one here is why I choose this format: To foster discussion and bring in different opinions. I also might edit in a disclaimer section, to give context to how/why I pick certain models to include in the guide and others not. Yeah, improvement! Even if we two don't change our stance on the topic, any other can look at our arguments and decide for themselves. Edit: Regarding the next guice section (strats and schemes), I know it has been some time since the last post. Time sadly has been in short supply lately. It will come, just a little bit late, like a Mv4 model without any teleport actions. 😉

  14. hi, everyone! i came here to participate in the hot, hot, hot competition and thought i might aswell introduce myself. i am simon from germany. i have not played a single tabletop game yet, i mostly did scale model stuff, enjoyed painting warhammer minis and building dioramas. but now i finally persuaded my girl to paint minis and play a game with me. we quickly settled on malifaux, she chose titania and i chose molly. my crew is rdy to play and i have uploaded some pics to my forum member gallery. now we are working together on her crew. when we are done i will upload her's aswell. if there are any players from berlin here who would like to get in touch, let me know. im looking for ppl to play and have fun!

  16. Hi people ! So an off and on player of Malifaux. It's still on my favorite game thougth. The problem is that there aren't a lot of players in my area and it's quite hard to convince people to jump in a new game. I played one game before the pandemic and it was hella fun. Sadly, I lost touch with my opponent (he disappeared without any explanation) I live in Canada, province of Quebec, in the city of Mascouche (near Montreal). I play Arcanist (Rasputina) and Neverborn (Euripides). Still waiting for the opportunity for a second game. In the meantime, I might start a resurrectionnist crew.

  18. For what its worth I make you end 2nd-5th if you win, depending on how other results go. (for second you need Dixon to win, and you need to get a 3 point better win than Dixon gets (or Dixon to draw and you score +6 or better in your game to overtake Vladislavs), as well as a better result than Kenny, where as 5th can happen if the top table draw, and you don't get a better result than Kenny and Dixon). Good luck. Its always interesting to see a inter faction mirror match. Since its a common claim that Arcanist Marcus is much better than Neverborn Marcus, I'm routing for you.

  19. Extra, Extra, read all about it! Anti-Guild Pundit Polly Sagequid MD reports Governor General Marlowe’s Symbols of Authority challenged as the Guild Holding Facility in the Necropolis near Plagued Pit in the Warrens region of the Southern Quarantine Zone stated to be closed found to be still in operation. This illegal and inhumane prison is known to house political dissidents critical of Guild polices many on trumped up charges born by false witnesses. The discovery was made by two rival groups apparently working together to close the facility and free their comrades inside. We are told the first group was led by the woefully capricious Pandora and the other by the Ancient Jedza. Both groups worked to Outflank the other with the Neverborn attempting to Catch and Release personnel in a hostage exchange while Jedza’s folk countered with Bait and Switch tactics intended to draw them out. It was evident each group respected the others sphere of influence and seemed to agree to keep things somewhat peaceful so as not to obviate the message and attract a heavy handed Guild response. Using Ancient Words obtained from his Comprehensive Notes, Christopher “Ink Fingers” Tannenbaum was able to dispatch the Carver and Pandora after several rounds of dialogue. Austera and Twiggy were stunned by Sorrow after a Glimpse of the Insanity wrought by the Guild’s draconian laws. Rumors that the protest turned violent are nothing more than Guild propaganda intended to minimize the crimes being perpetrated within the facilities stone walls. Though we are told the young girl Candy did throw a Temper Tantrum fit to kill the Damned after thinking she had destroyed Jedza’s prized bull Sophie, things settled down after Jedza showed her the beast was un-dead. After a few rounds of peaceful protesting, one of Jedza’s Lamplighters experienced Antipathy and walked away, perhaps an Aversion to the misery inside drove their flight from the field. (Standings: TW 6, 1 Salted Territories; WM 6 Territories, 1 Salted) It would be moments later that an overwhelming force of Guild Guardsman reinforced with Riot Breakers and directed by unidentified Elite Division Personnel arrived to dispatch the two groups and secure the site. Given the Guild response it is unlikely either group will be able to muster the resources required to utilize the area for further protests. This is yet another example of Guild authoritarianism and oppression. When will the citizens of Malifaux City demand the closure of this facility and accountability for the criminal acts perpetrated within? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is Polly Sagequid MD asking the tough questions to rally the masses. The last bastion of independent journalism in the city, the Malifaux Sentinel reports an unprovoked attack on a small branch of the Guild Library system in the remote town of Cynthus, south of the Northern Hills. The library was established by the Guild Public Relations Department at the behest of the University of Malifaux and the Malifaux Museum of Natural History in an effort to catalogue the rare Flora and Fauna of the region. Its position along the fast moving Frostrun River has often been a boon for the largely academic population; allowing the cultivation of crops and somewhat reliable if not slightly dangerous transportation downriver. Today, however, we are told the river afforded the dread pirate Mary “Black Tongue” Bonnet an easy ingress into the remote village. Traveling up stream in an ancient Karve, a relic of a bygone age, the Black Tongue’s crew was set on pillaging the meagre wealth of the town and Corrupting the Ley Lines said to come to a nexus in the library’s Special Collections Repository. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how one looks at it, one time Visiting Professor of Zoology and Botany at the Malifaux University, Marcus attempted to thwart the raid with all manner of beast and wyld creature. We are unsure exactly why Marcus left his Mountain abode to visit the town but Guild Investigators are aggressively questioning the residents to root out an answer. Eyewitnesses report the two crews clashed after attempting to first Outflank one another before turning to more aggressive measures. Knowing her vessel had limited room, the Black Tongue employed a Catch and Release scheme to overcome Marcus’ plan of Letting them Bleed for a perceived territorial incursion. We are told that despite the presence of several large and rare species from Malifaux’s untamed lands, Marcus was driven back to his mountain home by a huge horde of Mary Bonnet’s crew of Mindless Zombies. (Standings: OH 6 Territories; SK 5 Territories) Though her mottled black and green Karve may have sailed on, residents believe she still lurks nearby, awaiting the absence of Guild security personnel. Who knows if she has completed her task in the Special Collections Repository in the Guild Library: what is known is that the Guild cannot indefinitely garrison guardsman in such a remote place when Malifaux City itself is under siege from so many subversive forces, striking wantonly at the infrastructure of stability and security. A representative from the Guild’s Public Relations Division, speaking on behalf of the Guild Guard, stated that assets from the highly successful Bounty Program will be directed toward apprehending the Black Tongue along with former professor Marcus who is known to harbor both Arcanist and Neverborn sympathies. For those under the Guild’s benevolent authority and protection, be happy you may bask in the beacon of civilization that is Governor general Marlowe’s leadership. This has been the last bastion of independent journalism in the city, the Malifaux Sentinel reporting.

  20. The lists are in! We both tried to out-tech each other xD My Neverborn Marcus: Marcus Jackalope Mature Nephilim + Ancient Pact Mature Nephilim + Ancient Pact Candy The Scorpius Will o' The Wisp 4 stones My thinking was it was pretty much guaranteed that he would have two cache kitties, so I wanted a crew that was difficult for cache kitties to kill. Mature neph can't be cheated against in melee, and once scorpius is armor 2, kitties have a 1/2/3 damage track against it. The tricky parts were Candy vs Hinamatsu. Hinamatsu is a lot easier to keep alive, but sucks against the terrain on the table. So I ended up going Candy. When I had Hinamatsu in the list, I had an Order Initiate over the wisp, but with Candy I felt like I need more stones to get decent value out of her. Wisp is sweet due to 2" engage and being a bit of extra AP. His Arcanist Marcus (boooooo) Marcus Jackalope Cerberus + Soulstone Cache Cerberus + Soulstone Cache Amina Naidu Soulstone Miner Order Initiate + Magical Training 6 stones So Amina is there because Chimera loves to charge and is really vulnerable to obey, I assume. But unfortunately for him, I only hired one Chimera model! So will be interesting to see how that pans out. EDIT: She also produces soulstones and can make kitties fast, so that's unfortunate. His crew has more raw power, but mine is more strongly teched against his build. Let's see what happens!

  23. "Whenever a friendly model discards, and enemy model within 8" aura gains adversary (forgotten)". Or "If Molly if the leader of the crew, when a friendly model discards a card, an enemy model within 8" gains distract +1" So we are helping weak models survive more in combat, but still tying it into a discard mechanic. If the above is not right, then the suggestion that when you discard, your opponent discards for me has some real potential, but may be too negative emptying hands and then top decking for the rest of the game.

  27. So, out of curiosity and boredom I put up a survey on what Masters people take under what conditions. I was lucky enough to get 72 responders and I will be posting the result of that survey here. Fair warning there is a lot of data so this will probably take multiple posts to cover everything. Where possible I will try and post the results directly from Google Forms, but where necessary I will be summarizing the data. Scope: This survey is only a reflection of a small sample of respondents from A Wyrd Place and the Wyrd Discord. This is not intended be a representation of either a particular meta or the universe of Malifaux players. While the questions were phrased with "to a tournament" in the questions, this was only meant to encourage the respondent to consider their choices from a competitive stand point instead of a more casual or "fluff" perspective, it is not meant to be a true reflection on actual tournament statistics. General Survey Questions As you can see Ressers and Outcasts are owned by a majority of respondents and Bayou are the least popular faction. Outside of those three extremes, every other faction seems to be roughly comparable in popularity. Since all of the data isn't visible for this chart: Outcasts - 25%, Resser and Arcanist - 20.8%, Neverborn - 8.3%, Ten Thunders and Explorer's Society - 6.9%, Bayou and Guild - 5.6% Explorer's Society and Guild are the most popular back-up Factions at 29.4%. Neverborn and Bayou are next at 11.8%, and finally Ten Thunders, Ressers, and Outcasts are least popular at 5.9%. It is also important to note that only 23.6% of respondents had a backup Faction at all. Only 3 respondents had a third faction (Outcasts, Bayou, and Arcanist respectively) and one mad lad answered for all eight factions (Bayou>Resser>Arcanist>Neverborn>Guild>Outcasts>Ten Thunders>Explorer's Society for those that are curious). From here are the Faction specific questions. Each faction was asked the same questions about which Master they would chose from their selected faction of the Masters owned. Since this is a general thread I am going to summarize the leaders of each faction for the first section of questions about what masters a player would take into each other faction when that is the only information known. For more in depth results, they should be viewable here: https://forms.gle/ja77nvPMEkYdQs6SA . Four sample games were provided in the order below, unfortunately Google Forms didn't copy over the image with the question so I will provide the images here for reference with that data. Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Game 4 Go-to Master of Faction: Guild - Dashel Barker: 40% (4 of 10) Arcanists - Colette Du Bois: 31.3% (5 of 16) Resser - Kirai Ankoku: 37.5% (6 of 16) Neverborn - Titania: 33.3% (3 of 9) Outcasts - Von Shill and Parker: 23.8% (5 of 21) Ten Thunders - Lucas and Shen Long: 28.6% (2 of 7) Bayou - Mah Tucket: 42.9% (3 of 7) Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 45.5% (5 of 11) I am going to keep my thoughts brief here, but in general you will notice that the go-to Masters seem to fall along fairly predicable lines (especially considering the discussions seen online regarding each faction and the masters listed above). For the Ten Thunders, Bayou, and Explorer's Society their data is much more swingy due to the relatively small sample size of 7 or because of the limited access to Explorer's Society crews (I did add a qualifier to the Explorer's Society section which asked respondents to ignore the requirement that they own the Master to chose it but given the limited experience many people have with them I would add an asterisk next to all of their results) Vs Guild: Guild - Charles Hoffman: 30% Arcanists - Toni Ironsides, Rasputina, and Mei Feng: 25% Resser - Kirai Ankoku: 31.3% Neverborn - Pandora and Titania: 33.3% Outcasts - Von Shill: 30% Ten Thunders - Shen Long and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Mah Tucket: 42.9% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 63.6% Vs Arcanist: Guild - Sonnia Criid: 30% Arcanists - Toni Ironsides: 31.3% Resser - Reva Cortinas: 31.3% Neverborn - The Dreamer and Pandora: 33.3% Outcasts - Tara and Leveticus: 23.8% Ten Thunders - Shen Long and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Mah Tucket, Captain Zipp, and Wong: 28.6% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 45.5% Vs Resser: Guild - Lady Justice: 60% Arcanists - Kaeris: 31.3% Resser - Prof. Von Schtook: 25% Neverborn - The Dreamer: 44.4% Outcasts - Von Shill: 28.6% Ten Thunders - Shen Long and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Mah Tucket: 42.9% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 27.3% Vs Neverborn: Guild - Lady Justice: 40% Arcanists - Toni Ironsides: 31.3% Resser - Kirai AnKoku and Molly Squidpiddge: 26.7% Neverborn - Pandora: 44.4% Outcasts - Tara: 23.8% Ten Thunders - Asami and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Mah Tucket: 42.9% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 36.4% Vs Outcasts: Guild - Dashel Barker: 30% Arcanists - Colette Du Bois: 25% Resser - Molly Squidpiddge: 37.5% Neverborn - The Dreamer: 33.3% Outcasts - The Viktorias: 23.8% Ten Thunders - Misaki Katanaka and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - The Brewmaster: 42.9% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 63.6% Vs Ten Thunders: Guild - Dashel Barker: 40% Arcanists - Toni Ironsides: 25% Resser - Kirai Ankoku: 31.3% Neverborn - Titania: 33.3% Outcasts - Parker Barrows: 28.6% Ten Thunders - Misaki Katanaka, Jakob Lynch, and Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Mah Tucket and The Brewmaster: 28.6% Explorer's Society - English Ivan and Jedza: 27.3% Vs Bayou Guild - Charles Hoffman Arcanists - Rasputina: 31.3% Resser - Kirai Ankoku: 31.3% Neverborn - Titania: 37.5% Outcasts - The Viktorias: 23.8% Ten Thunders - Lucas: 28.6% Bayou - Captain Zipp: 28.6% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 45.5% Vs Explorer's Society: Guild - Sonnia Criid: 30% Arcanists - Kaeris, Toni Ironsides, and Colette Du Bois: 25% Resser - Kirai Ankoku: 25% Neverborn - Pandora: 55.6% Outcasts - Tara: 28.6% Ten Thunders - Misaki Katanaka: 42.9% Bayou - Mah Tucket, Ophelia LaCroix, and The Brewmaster: 28.6% Explorer's Society - English Ivan: 36.4% There is a lot of data to pour through, so for now I am going to take a break and will return tomorrow-ish with the top choices by faction for each of the four games used as examples.

  32. Just as I did, my friend. I didn't really catch the importance of Corvis until somebody on this forum (I think it was, once again, @Adran) pointing out that, with an Attack stat of 7, the guy can do EVERYTHING he wants with his triggers, and there is no way to stop him. Do you want to push Lord Chompy away? Done! Do you want to put down a Scheme Marker for "Detonate charge"? Done! (just...don't do that next to Lord Chompy :p) Do you want to stagger Coppelius so he doesn't run all around the map? Done! And if you are worried that Corvis will get punched in the face, then your opponent will have to get rid of tons and tons of card just to avoid the , thanks to his "Flexible morality" ability. Plus, you have your SS to absorb damage...more than enough to discourage your enemy to target him too hard.

Not being able of finishing miniatures and calling them "done" is something that has been draging me out since I started in the hobby. And planning on performing osl on both Ototo and Misaki has not being helping me finishing the core box. So I am going to kill two birds with one stone! Or that is the plan at least. Both are great games with fantastic minis- although the tones each use could hardly be farther apart. The developers of these games know each other, and When both games went to Kickstarter, they took the opportunity to do a cool cross over. So means that we got a really cute chibi of the Twilight Knight. She makes a great mini, and I’d have been happy to leave it off there, but the fluff on her card implies that if those super cute Super Dungeon characters go into the Nether Rift in their seting, they end up in the brutal and bloody hell world of Kingdom Death. So I got to thinking about this, and decided that I really needed to expand on this idea of the cute little chibis on the Planes of Faces. Yes, these are all playable, and I'm going to continue to create Chibi versions of Kingdom Death monsters.

  47. Finished Jedza's crew. The snowy bases contrast with this Texas heatwave 🥵. Also got back into the game proper with them and they have a very interesting play style. Need to go back and catch her goggles. I'll probably assemble and paint the rest of the Seeker models before returning to the Crypsis Corps. Have a good week, y'all.

  49. Yep, exactly. That's why I'm liking the look of Marcus, there are lots of ways of moving models about and adapting to what is needed.
