  1. I always wanted the Crossroads Seven to look a bit more inhuman so for Gluttony decided to go for a decidedly unnatural skin colour. Also pretty happy with the hat.

  2. Well, I'm not an experienced enough player to answer this with any conviction, but from forum traffic it would appear that there are concerns with every summoning master, and a few outliers. These feelings aren't universal, but I believe they are felt amongst most non-top-table players. From my experience, Malifaux suffers from a similar 'problem' that the PC game league of legends does - the feel of balance is completely different at different levels of skill. Riot do a lot of work to balance at several levels of skill to make sure players have fun no matter their skill level. @That

  3. So I've forgotten to update this so I guess I'll do so now Round 1 I faced anya with Mikhail and emmy and it was horrible, I got stuck in my own deployment zone everyone was stunned and I couldn't do anything it was a nightmare. I'd gone with vonshill and didn't take arik for some reason who would have helped a lot vs but it was just a terrible game from me and I was outplayed completely. My opponent was nice enough to agree I would have scored 1 point when we called it turn 3 but 8-1 was what I ended up with Round 2 was the outcast mirror as was vicks for me vs Tara f

  4. I wouldn't like to say for certain, this past 2 years my tournament gaming has been almost zero. There are certainly some crews that have a "scissors, paper, stone" like effect (either in some match ups or scenarios), that can have pushed the slightly weaker player up. For example Molly vs Titania, the Titania player typically will be able to use undergrowth markers with no risk in most games, but in that matchup if she isn't careful the markers will help Molly more than her. On the assumption they both tried to play their normal game, not adapting for their opponent, the Titania player

  5. To be clear, I only bring in OOK models as tech picks for the board, or for the Scheme & Strat pool and/or as counter picks against specific Masters/Factions; I don't think there are any auto-take OOK picks for Apex. Austera and Twigge are very board-dependent, but they can be extremely useful for Apex. The biggest counter I've found to Cooper is simply blocking his LoS, while a soft counter to him is hiding in/generating Concealing - plus he really wants to hog most of your good cards. Herald, Mv6 and Unimpeded coupled with two great actions lets them either scheme or snipe at key

  7. I think different rules are needed at different point levels. Like the Henchman Hardcore ban on extra leader AP or Summoning. I could see something like an MtG ban list ie x models are not allowed in y format. I think we've seen a little of that already with DMH models bring disallowed in done situations. Double Masters being banned. Or even stuff like not taking Masters in games of 30ss or less. One day in going to come up with strategies and schemes that work with Henchmen Hardcore and lower point games. Stuff that doesn't require as many models in as many places. Maybe even stuf

  8. You can also play with Intuition on both Euri and Thoon. If you have one or two low cards on top, you can use a SS to flip both for Reflected Visage (Euri) or Arctic Pull (Thoon). This lets you clear the dross off the top and get to a higher card. Honestly, one of the players in my meta has called out that he doesn't have to actually do much for Assassination since I often times bring Euri down to that point on my own using The Old Ways to turn what could be a 3/4/6 into a single point of damage. The Old Ways turns the entire Savage keyword into Jack Daws with pretty solid HP and H2

  11. I think pre-errata Shenlong and maybe the amount of focus Ma could put out were at the point that if you brought other lists against them it allowed for that slightly worse player to have the advantage. Both of these had the dual problem of being extremely good and simple (just stacked distracted on Shen, take the drunk upgrade and every master attack was focused), or with Ma, just have 4-5 focus stacked on every model. Arguably Cadmus is at that level of power but is significantly more complex to pilot.

  12. Yes and no. Yes in that it's a big reason why Red Chapel doesn't work synergistically because attacking WP wasn't their thing initially. Passing activations was. The best Red Chapel models right now don't even really care that Scarlet Seduction is on them, or don't even have it. They've set up the crew so that in theory they want you to be engaged by their mid to low range models so their bigger models can punish you, with lots of ways to give out distracted, and triggers to up damage for that, and abilities that make being engaged with Red Chapel model is debilitating. But noting actually rew

  13. This is exactly the issue - there are lots of rock paper scissors moments in Malifaux, which is part of what makes the tactical and crew construction so great. But, it's a massive hurdle for new players. The forum threads on masters are useful, but I feel like wyrd should do something in the app to say: these are this master/keywords strengths; this is how you counter them. That would keep those players interested who buy a box or two, loose every game and stop playing. If you know it's because you're being hard countered as a beginner then you can work around it (by getting a box that helps y

  14. Malifaux does have a similar "balance at different levels" problem. I don't think that there is an easy answer for it, short of making it a less deep game, which I think would lose it a lot of the interest it has. It is one of the reasons that most of those "X is broken" threads don't end with agreement. There have been plenty of times over the years you can see people complaining a model is too strong, and at a similar time people complain the same model is too weak. And both can have valid points. My common example from the first 2 editions was Perdita. She was a master with high stats. for

  16. Tried this in Recover Evidence with Leave Your Mark and some other scheme: Rollins & Iggy pup Intrepid Emissary Archivist Cherri/Sidir Desper Laraux Rough Rider. 7 stones I ran out of stones on turn 5, but it still felt like the right number. I was against Yan Lo and ended in a 6-6 tie. Emissary felt awesome, hitting for severe 6 with blast damage. Cherri did serious work in the damage department. The Rough Rider basically spent the game repositioning Cherri or getting the heal trigger off (which denied first point of assassinate for my opponen

  18. I think it's David Draiman since he is known for letting his darker emotions influence his music. There's also an iconic picture of The Guy from disturbed in the same exact stance, surrounded by children standing around him and the sculpt seems to draw a lot of inspiration from that pose. I could be reaching and wrong, but I don't think I am. Still working on putting a name to Gluttony. I thought potientially Questlove, Iz kamakawiwoʻole, and a few others that don't seem to hold water. If I'm operating on the assumption that each one of them is based on a re

  20. Eek, Asami summons in 35 soulstones will be absolutely brutal. In general I'd suggest not allowing summoners in those size games, but maybe it'll be okay. If you want to play a bit dirty to combat the dirtiness of summons in low-stone games, Vincent can one shot summons (though is a pretty massive investment!) I've played against Asami once and lost, so don't know too much about the crew, but depending on the pool you may be able to run circles around her and out-scheme her. I definitely felt like the more mobile crew when I faced her.

  22. Aww, thanks @Caedrus! That's very kind of you to say. Anyway, here's a progress update on the Crawlers; I worked out the scheme for them months ago, when I painted the Morphling (ie. basically both Crawler types squished together). So far they're looking pretty swish for a 4 scrip trash squad. I especially love some of the faces. Like this one - Grumpy Cat's distant ancestor;

  23. I'm not sure... there's a lot of strong keywords. in Bayou I would play BBB for tricksy, Frank Kin or Samy for Kin and Wizz-Bang, The First Mate for a mix of swampfiend and infamous and maybe even popcorn for Tri-chi and of course Gluttony... that's a lot of option (and maybe you can do niche things with swampmother or Old Major). Maybe we should start a thread about it though to avoid hijacking this one...

  24. Seems like you might be able to make some sort of gun line list with Von Shill and Yannic's shouting orders. Drop a scheme marker, Concentrate as a bonus action and draw a card, then take a focused shot. Riflemen might be fun holders for upgrades like Rocket launcher too. Burn a wound for I Meant to Do that on Warning shot, then burn another wound for for a stat 8 Rocket Launcher attack with built in Critical Strike and ignore Friendly Fire.

  25. Hey all, I’m new to this painting forum- literally been here 5 minutes. I’ve been painting for a few years and desperately trying to get better. I’ve seen great improvement that’s for sure! @CaedrusI just read through the Challenge rules - unsure if I’ll be making a monthly pledge just yet. Dipping my toes, if you will. I just finished Hinamatsu, Titania, and two Autumn Knights in the last week. I’ll shoot for better photos next time. And maybe actually pledging

Please take any critiques in a positive light, as they are meant to be constructive! @muraki: Nice development of your NMM. You might want to put a small amount of glazed colours to reflect the surroundings, e.g. a brown at the bottom of (March) Lady J’s coffin. I love your choice of hair colour on Lady J, by the way. Super-fine brush control on the woodgrain of her coffin, too! @Gloomy: I love your

  28. I was particularly answering the view that a majority of Summoning Masters are a problem. Not that the majority of Summoning is a problem (which I believe is even less true). I decided Ulix as a "replacer" did not count (Yan lo was a stretch but I think most of the time his replace causes a summon of a Gukodo, or is on a summoned model, such as a zombie. And he was raised as one of the problems in the initial post of the thread ) I also didn't count masters that just summoned their own totems (Colette, Zoraida, Reva). But it does show you how many things there are out there t

  30. I personally think there isn't enough reason to bring keyword models, we just need more WP attacks. Seamus does a great job of attacking DF and nothing in keyword really attempts at taking wounds with WP really, seems like Scarlet Temptation is only in keyword to help Terrifying. What we need is melee ranged WP attacks and something strong on Sybelle. My thoughts, give sybelle either Self Loathing or Obey, both fit thematically and would help the crew dramatically. Not sure about triggers, if Obey, harsh teachings maybe? Bete needs more corpse generation in crew. Poisoned fate is co

  33. Agreed. Otherwise, Dashel's totem wouldn't draw you a card off of Executioner's doing Trail of Gore, because it is also taking the place of a cost while not being that cost.

  34. I think it would work for costs. Because they're: 1. Pay the cost. 2. Do the thing. Not 1. You may pay the cost. 2. If the cost was payed, do the thing. Ie, there's no portion of part 2 that checks to see what you did in part 1. I could be wrong, but it certainly seems like Yannic's Aura was intended to work with For the Corps and Juggernaut.

  35. The question is: how many models seem problematic in context of summoning? Is 2 or maybe 3 a large number? Same question here. How popular are those small sized games? Isn't it better to create special individual rules for them instead of trying to rework general rules created for normal sized games?
    0 points
  36. That's basically where I would like to see more changes go - balance for more game sizes/formats. From my collection of tabletop games Malifaux is the only one not balanced for a range of sizes. I'm not saying it's easy or even possible with a game like Malifaux, but that's why we're discussing it. I think this couldn't be further from the truth. If you've got a collection of models/unit/etc which need a fix you can do it two ways: fix every model individually, or find the common thread fix that, and then adjust the outliers. Now, if you're trying to fix a small number of models t

  37. I would propose a blanket change on summoning. Namely that any summoned model (perhaps excluding demise abilities meant to represent the same model in a different state) should get a summoned upgrade. Mostly because some models have Exorcism, or abilities that are meant to be anti-summoning tech. But that tech doesn't work if there isn't a unified mechanic.

  39. Bayou demises are summon not replace for a reason. Replacing with an insignificant model breaks a lot of schemes for both players: no reckoning/bounty points, no take prisoner, no hidden martyrs etc. That's true. That's why summoning is banned in Henchman Hardcore format. Unfortunately m3e wasn't balanced and tested for low ss games. And you'll never get real malifaux experience in 30ss or 35ss games - some crews will be too strong and other will suffer greatly from lack of models and synergy.
