  2. Just finished my round two game. Lists attached. I had 5 stones and my opponent had 7. I had a simple plan: emissary rolls all over the table with the stone, while the rest of the crew is killing ghost. I took an obvious vendetta Francois vs Dead Rider and Let Them Bleed. My opponent picked vendetta Datsue Ba vs Francois and Claim Jump on Lost Love. On the first turn Jaakuna lured my Emissary away from the strategy marker next to my deployment. I had a very strong starting hand of 4 severes and a red joker, but even a red joker couldn't save from stat 7 vs 5. Kirai summo

  3. Definitely having list regret. Wanted to try something new and I'm not sure it works xD. I can still see some viable plans, but it is weaker than if I had just gone triple beater I think. Manos especially suits the terrain wayyy better than the sz3 models. Hiding from Fuhatsu sounds hard xD One of the Laugh Off models, I assume. But since they can be four wind punched 6" at a time from each of the students, I don't think he will have trouble getting it around.   4. Hey all, I’m new to this painting forum- literally been here 5 minutes. I’ve been painting for a few years and desperately trying to get better. I’ve seen great improvement that’s for sure! @CaedrusI just read through the Challenge rules - unsure if I’ll be making a monthly pledge just yet. Dipping my toes, if you will.   9. I think this is where I missed what you meant. I didn't think you meant specific model. I also don't think Scoffer thought you meant specific model. This is hard to write rules for, especially as a summoned model in the rules is a different model to a previous version of the model at the moment. By specific model you aren't actually referring to a specific physical model (I have Izamu and Genbu, so they are clearly 2 different models, but you don't want someone to be able to summon Genbu the turn Izamu dies) but rather some permeance in the plenty value.   14. Fair, and in GG0 I experimented with that extensively. It's definitely something they'd need to consider if they did that change. The issue is, if you want the 1st turn corpse BR combo, there are ways to get that that are better, cheaper, or both. And sure a negative on a terrifying duel you can't do anything about (sorta) is a downer, but the cost to the player with the Mourner is pretty significant to get that to work. Mourner has to take GST, likely be engaged with a model with Ruthless (since that's the issue we are talking about), and have another Red Chapel model with Scarlet Tempta

A little disappointed at the lack of triggers that drop markers to make models like Benny happy (Yannic's Unexpected Results is a touch hard to do in the backline ), but definitely an interesting set. If nothing else the Riflemen being able to Interact, Walk, Interact without the need for expensive Moldy Cheese actions makes them pretty good for babysitting Benny, so there's opportunity to mix up my Hamelin list building there. Scheme marker shenanigans are my catnip though, so it's a fun starter set. Quite a lot of options for attack generation across the board, and you can even

  16. They look really good to me Yannick and the rifleman look good together since they can draw a card a turn with thier bonus, if the rifleman starts next to a scheme maker. I haven't looked, me but I feel like there's for to be more synergies in faction. The riflemen themselves seen really great for 5ss. The anti-charge arua is cool. The ability to have built in Masks for Coordinated Strike seems really powerful. They're only stat 4 but can punish low df models or it can force your opponent to cheat, even if they're winning, or risk you cheating up to get an attack from a beater like the Vi

  17. yeah action 1) interact, action 2) shoot, action 3) draw and shoot again. Love it. The rifleman can use their bonus to just draw a card and drop a new marker each turn. Lots of fun combos

  20. TT has some of the BEST Upgrades in the game. Trained Ninja is absolutely insane. Two of Guild's upgrades I think are good and situational, but LLC is an Upgrade you take 2 of every game. Just Armor 1 by itself gives you more than 2ss worth of reduction over 5 Turns.

  22. You could try limiting it by station, like a set of "Minion Only" generic upgrades. I feel like it would just be better to tweak and rebalance the models themselves, though, rather than adding upgrades on top of them. I thought the upgrades in 2e were pretty interesting, and it could be some incredible design space, but I don't think I would really want that whole extra layer to come back to 3e. Maybe as something optional at some point? Like a reverse 'Dead Man's Hand', trying out crazier ideas for the future, but not affecting "normal" play. But even if you did that, it would probably

  24. I haven't played into the Viks as a keyword in a long time so I'm not sure what you can do into them that is specific to them. The last time I saw viks they were brought as a 2nd masters and I had no real issue with them. I would definitely not remove Anna from your list though. She prevents the vik's place shenanigans and keeps their sister from being able to heal them in her aura. Bring additional stones for forcing neg flips and stoning off damage. Their crew is squishy as a whole and should be able to be brought down. Choose your Vale target carefully and do whatever you can to p

  25. I think homogenization would be the 2nd biggest problem after broken combos. If I can put armor on the Viks, they're a lot more like any standard beater than glass cannon edge of your seat

Game balance would biggest the biggest challenge, and Wyrd would have to take great measures to ensure generic upgrades don't swing already strong factions/masters into the realm of game-breakingly strong. I especially like your point about the "puzzle solving" aspect of list building. That is easily one of my favorite aspects of any game. Malifaux's design means that I'm constantly considering the game state, so I'm always trying to solves an ever-changing puzzle! Us gamers are an peculiar bunch, amirite?   27. I never played against Vicks tbh, so I don't feel qualified to give advice. It also seemed like Face already had ideas how to improve their own gameplan. As far as I can tell, Viks is solid in the "beatable" range in terms of powerlevel. But I also occasionally hear from people struggeling against her, so I would assume it's a matter of experience? The crew looks quite squishy. Should give opportunities to summon more than usual. They're highly mobile, but Transmortis is pretty good at that as well. If 3rd floor's Viks guide is to be believed, they like to keep you busy hunting for

  28. In the case of Corvus Rook, adding +1" to his melee is probably worth 5 or 6 ss. But that is because of Slippery. For very few other cases is it worth more than 1 or 2 ss (I would guess). I also think that most of the time you would see these upgrades on the models you currently see being played rather than them bringing new models to playability. (See Lead lined coat for example. Armour 1 would make a lot of models more playable, but what happens is it gets put on the best model you have, that you would probably hire even without the upgrade existing).   29. Interesting idea... You have to be careful when you design something that can be use across all factions 1) Increase in the game complexity 2) Homogenized faction. If you give a gun to everybody, suddenly you removed faction specificity. Crew / deck building game must have diversity so you have a different game experience. 3) Easy puzzled solving. Again when you build a list, it's like doing a puzzle... If the solution is too obvious or if you can easily work tou way around faction weakness, the game experience will be diminished... And you'll probably see the same list more of

  30. The very idea "can't summon it unless you hire it" is ridiculous. A Swine Cursed has Demise ability which summons a Piglet or a Bayou Gremlin when Swine Cursed is killed. So I have to spend 6 ss on models I don't actually need in my list to make 1 ability of a 7ss model work. The same for Sammy - 7 stones tax to make one bonus action work. Taxidermists and Pigapult immediately become 2ss more expensive (3 if hired not in Wong crew). And Zoraida will never have her Voodoo Doll, because it can't be hired (and therefore summoned) at all.

  31. In the case of Izamu and Genbu the card states that they are the same in every aspect. When actually playing the game in person it's really easy to keep track of, but not so easy in vassal or in the Malifaux app. At the side of the table you have three sections for models - those killed more than a turn ago, those killed last turn and those killed this turn. At the end of each turn you shuffle the models in the later two sections down one. The extra minons would start the game in the "dead more than a turn ago" pile. Shove aside on Valedictorian is one of your best possible triggers, particularly since it can shove people off of leylines Killing Viks is spectacular and gives you any summon, but is hard to pull off. Their healing is insane. If you're good at setting it up, you can use Carrion Emissary's aura to help kill them - they melt like butter in that aura if you can keep them in it.   35. You are trying to fix "big" summoners and completely forget about "minor" ones. All your solutions make models like Spawn mother and Sow almost worthless and nerf models like Pathfinder and Carrion Emissary and even Reva - which definitely don't need a nerf.

I'm digging this up a little, but after reading a little kirai battle report I had a very simple idea which could come in two grades depending on how much you feel the balance for summoners is off. It doesn't solve all of the problems (if you consider summoning an issue rather than the resources available to summoners) but I have a little tweak for some of that. So, first level: a model killed this game turn cannot be summoned in this game turn. Second level: a model killed last turn cannot be summoned in this game turn.   38. I'm 6 games into Euri and I think he's a sleeper. There are several ways you can play him thanks to the diversity in the Savage keyword. He can wall up and hide, or move with surprising speed. He can be ranged or melee beat down, or simply slow your foes down with conditions. He can also scheme very well with the Cyclops and the recent addition of The Damned. He's reportedly squishy, but he's been surprisingly resilient to me. The Old Ways allows him to stay alive much longer than you might expect. The same with the rest of the crew.   45. And in a flurry of activity, I've finished off the English Ivan core box! Already posted this in a few other places so sorry if it's old news. Basic idea was to do a strong white zenithal highlight and then gradually darken things with contrast paint before adding some directional lighting also with contrast. To keep things fresh, all the living crew have lamps on their bases while all the shadows are entirely in darkness. Thought it would be kind of fun to do a thing where it's Ivan and friends in the shadow realm where they have to stay in the light to prevent being attacked by t

  46. Finished up my skaven army and now it’s time to get back to some REAL painting instead of batching 40 dudes at a time. First up, some spooky shadow friends? of Ivan! Went with a more monochromatic scheme since they’re literally shadows but I also wanted to go with bases that represent a dark cobblestone path through a park around halloween. The theme will be way more apparent on some of the actually important models, I promise!

  47. Oh man so it’s been a crazy few weeks and unfortunately I haven’t gotten much Malifaux painting done (too busy trying to crank out my last few skaven models). But what I did do was paint up a ton of bases and then have a buddy paint some malifaux models for me. And here are the results! He’s a brilliant painter and now I can add Lynch to my list of crews as well as cross off a bunch of ten thunders versatiles.
