  1. Hi all, I have updated the vassal module with a couple of fixes that were annoying some players. 10 new maps that the cards should all work properly on, plus a couple of other bug fixes: toughness can be damaged, some assets swapped to right place. http://www.vassalengine.org/mediawiki/images/1/1b/TheOtherSide1.1.vmod

  2. Finished up my skaven army and now it’s time to get back to some REAL painting instead of batching 40 dudes at a time. First up, some spooky shadow friends? of Ivan! Went with a more monochromatic scheme since they’re literally shadows but I also wanted to go with bases that represent a dark cobblestone path through a park around halloween. The theme will be way more apparent on some of the actually important models, I promise!

  3. And Santiago done. Love painting contrast over zenithal and refining it afterwards. So damn quick compared to regular base tone, shade, highlight, refine, repeat.

  4. fwiw the Catalan Brawler can double Toss in the Mud a friendly using Price of Progress for the reposition trigger. edit: as a turn 1 movement trick, if you want it

  5. Stat 7 toss in the mud does make Juju a *very* reliable piece for moving models off of objectives, which is relevant to a lot of things in GG1.

  6. That Hold Down is going to be massive for Levi as well (more stat6 irreducible damage attacks? Yes, please). The Brawler is also well suited to protect both Waifs and Levi himself, at least from ranged attacks, so I think I'll be using him in Amalgam a fair bit.

  7. Moving through the next book slower than intended. (More stories!) ... the death of the Governor General's son, and the assrote dinteractions with said general, do not, in fact, drop his name in there. Even his dad is, "The governor-general won't like this..." Got to see Francis dead, buried, and avenged, and I'm currently digging through Colette's debut, the passing to her of the Leviathan's Eye, and the introduction of Hamlin (yikes!). No real dates yet, but gettin there...

  8. Like The Lone Swordsman, The Midnight Stalker has the important THE in front, implying it's a singular title. Maybe I'll have to get a sharpie and change it to THE Catalan Brawler.

  9. I'm still in a bit of a rut when it comes to painting Malifaux, and my attempt to paint Abyssinians last month failed miserably. So instead, I'm returning to a favourite; Yep - it's time to get back to the Gibbering Hordes! I've just got these guys (Barbed Crawlers and Devouring Eel), plus some Yarazi to go before I've finished the Allegiance. The colour scheme have for them is both fun and easy, so these should be a blast to get through.

  10. I think this is intentional because they don't want these models having a 2" engagement

  11. Looking back at open beta cards (yeah I never got rid of em), it was not a melee attack. That said, I think people weren't as upset about it not being a melee as the switch from m2e to m3e and the changes to charge probably kept people from realizing how useful it would be as a melee rather than a close magic attack.

  12. Hi there! i managed to paint minako this weekend for 8SS. Used a nº1 brush, have been using it for a while, and the tip is a bit messed up, so at the end i'm glad i picked a mini with no eyes XD I spread the glue for the base with a toothpick, does it break the rules of the 1 brush challenge? So April pledge is complete, hopefully i might paint some more mali minis during the month, still don't know what

  13. Gotta get all the eyes of the whole crew painted first when the tip of the brush is still pristine! WIP of Santiago

  14. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo decided to give his wings a rest and attempted to do a little train-hopping to get from one place to another. Unfortunately for him, he hopped on one owned by the Condor Rails and ran into Anya’s armed security. Since he looks a little like a Nephilim who needs to go on a diet, they treated him about as nicely as they would of any black blood in the Knotwoods. So while he’s nursing his wounds (and ego), let’s take a look at one of the characters in the upcoming Outcast Starter box! The Outcast Starter Box includes 4 models: Yannic Waller, 2 Catalan Riflemen, and the Catalan Brawler (who we’ll be talking about in just a moment). Each model is a Versatile character for Outcast crews, but they also have the Syndicate keyword, so they’ll also be playable for Anya and the Condor Rails. Just like the Bayou Starter box, which we covered in a previous Waldo’s Weekly, the Outcast Starter Box will also include tokens, a measuring widget, and an Outcast-themed Fate deck. The Catalan Brawler punches first, then asks questions later (if at all). This 8 cost Enforcer is tough to bring down Armor and Hard to Kill, and his Cage Fighter defensive trigger will have opponents second-guessing whether they want to get into a boxing match with a character that has metal fists as weapons. His Brass Knuckles attack action packs a wallop with a 2/3/5 damage track that also dishes out Staggered to the target, and the Hold Down trigger will help his Riflemen get a clear, opportunistic shot. Even as a heavy hitter, the Catalan Brawler provides some utility to the crew with his Toss in the Mud Action, which allows him to remove a pesky Condition on his friends (or enemies!). The Outcast Starter Box will be hitting store shelves in June! Don't forget: the Easter Extravaganza Event is happening right now! Head over to our webstore to pick up alts, Nightmare models, and Malifaux Classics! The Event ends this Friday. We'll see you next week!

  16. Toss has no TN Toss in the Mud has the TN 12 you mention FWIW, I made the same mistake reading Adran's post the first time.

  17. Not too much in the second book... Molly's timeline is still a bit messed up, but the *exact* date isn't important. We get to see that Francis was the name of the Governor-General's only son, but no mention of the GG's name, spouse, or potential other kids. Kirai gets introduced, as did Haemlin, teh Red Star, the Red Cage which ... you know, I always thought it did a giant meteor dive and CRASH into teh swamp, but instead it just sorta ... poofed. No impact, no explosion, nada. Then the ground collapsed into a sinkhole when all of that energy poured out of it. When December's physical form was killed in book 1, no big energy spike. When the Kythera portal was destroyed, no big energy spike, but the Red Cage was WILDLY out of control in terms of energy and I'm really curious as to why. There's a bit of timeline in there, but not enough to really work with. Book 3 starts with us getting our first hard date, however, with September 20, PF 114 (that's 1902) given for The Event, and that lets us work backwards to see when the storyline started (1901), and the sprinkling of dates that we have up until this point can be plugged in. Book Three (Twisting Fates) is crazy thick, so I'm guessing this one'll take a while to chew through. This and the next one would round up the 1st edition of the tabletop game, then I'll move on to the 2nd ed, before diving into teh RPG again. I don't own any of teh 3rd ed tabletop books, so if anyone wants to crub data and dates from those, it'd be much appreciated.

  19. Thats the malifaux mod, this is the ToS one 😂 But people using other conditions seems to work fine tbh

  20. That's a big reason! There's not much difference between the 2 imo (but I agree that the Sow is probably a little better against anything but a shooting crew). I think EitN is a big part of what make Z awesome. Spawnmother give you free relay (Gupp).

  21. Since Toss doesn't have a TN, it doesn't really matter for toss (on friendlies anyway). It does make it harder to toss in the mud when you can't easily see the mud. And in general I think the more useful part of Toss in the mud is the condition removal, giving it a 7 or 8" condition removal action (Charge and remove condition) might be a reason. (although different models might have different plans, such as I can see the pushing through multiple hazardous pretty useful in syndicate) I don't think anything we have with Toss in the mud would break if it was a action, but I'm sure several of them would get picked more.

  22. Because its an after resolving trigger, you can get the heal even if you don't get the ride with me. So on a 7 you get a 5" push. On a tome you get a 1/2/3 heal on a model within 3" and its possible to get both.

  23. Just played my second Wastrel game. I found this sequence on Iggy Pup to be insane, and did it basically every turn starting turn 1: Make an artifact with an existing scrap. Toss the artifact 12" and teleport to the new location. Drop a scrap to prepare for next turn (and to give card draw to the models in the area). Just repeated that every turn and it is so damn good.

  26. Nah, this is old hat for Outcasts. Obedient Wretch and the Child are both Enforcers who are not technically unique individuals. We even have a Henchman, the Scion, who is just one of several random muppets pledged to Obliteration. Outcasts, the faction of "How are you not a Minion?"

  27. @Caedrus Just 7 SS painted this month. Good thing I only pledged for enforcer level this year, because my painting progress for Wyrd stuff was pretty minimal over March - just one Iron Skeeter; Not ideal, but at least I have a basic scheme sorted so the last two shouldn't be too difficult. No progress on the Electrocutioners, unfortunately. They'll have to wait for another time!

  28. Yeah, I've wondered if that was the deciding factor (although even then, a 1" melee ability would still make way more sense in my eye. Ah well, I guess it is just one of those things!

  29. Well Toss is a 1 inch magic attack, which I've seen so many people forget that it's not a melee and charge + toss (ha). Sword trick is also 3 inches and magic, but as a free action it's not as worrisome for the charge.

  30. I need to add a timeout to the request to check for updated model data and stuff. Right now if it's a poor connection it will just hang for as long as it takes to try to download updated metadata. That doesn't seem related, I've never seen Arik cause the app to hang on the opening screen at all. The only place that appears to cause problems is in the Games page for whatever reason. So far I've been unable to replicate that bug myself to debug it. You would go into Settings -> Apps -> See all -> M3E -> Storage & cache. There should be buttons there to clear storage and cache. M3E may not show up in the list if you don't have it installed, I'm not sure. In any case, I'm not sure why the app would hang on the splash screen if you'd never used it before. Try making sure you have a good internet connection the first time you open it. If that's not possible, try turning wifi and data off entirely and open it then. Let me know if either works. Also there's actually 2 splash screens - 1 that just has the Crew Builder logo in the middle, and one that has the Wyrd logo and copyright text at the top and bottom. Which one does it hang on?

  33. Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening depending on where you are. We at Household-gamer have put up another video battle report on youtube (last Friday) but thought I would mention here. Give it a watch and hopefully it is enjoyable and please give any feedback good or bad. Thanks again to anybody who has watched already

  34. Toss in the Mud - was it supposed to be a melee attack, same as Pride accidentally had no melee symbol on his attack action until the errata? It is an ability that is on wrestlers and everything about it screams melee attack (it is literally just shoving someone into some mud). Models with the ability are generally considered quite mediocre models, but would suddenly have their whole kit make sense if it was a melee attack. I've lost my open beta cards so can't check if it was ever intended to be a melee attack, but it just feels like the whole ability doesn't work. Any thoughts/insights? Reckon it is a mistake and it was meant to be printed with a melee symbol and now it's too late to change? xD

  35. I tried clearing the cache and storage for the app and started it while connected to my home wifi and that seemed to work! Thanks for helping me out! And it was the second splash screen it stopped on, just to answer that question.

  36. The friendly has to be within 2" of the brawler and scheme marker. The enemy has to be able to legally target the Brawler. So its a relatively tight bubble if you're looking at a 1" action, but not hard to arrange if its a 12" you want protection from.

  37. Short answer - The rules say "The model performs the Action’s effects, as stated on the card, in the order they are listed. If any of an Action’s effects cannot be resolved, they are ignored." So strictly speaking if you choose to not allow the Bandersnatch to bury, then you end up in an unexpected place where there is a Shadow lair out and no buried Bandersnatch. This would basically mean your nurse would take 1 damage and injured every activation until death (either hers or the bandersnatches), and the Bandersnatch can't try and crawl into another shadow until the nurse is dead. But none of the other effects would work. (EDIT- As pointed out, the Bandersnatch could crawl into another shadow, but the upgrade would stay on the nurse) I would have thought a better intent of the action is that you treat the failure to bury as an "unbury" for the purpose of the upgrade and so discard the upgrade, but I would suggest discussing it with your opponent before you finalise the crew, because its a rare situation, and can only come about if both players allow it to.

  38. You're 100% right. I just usually want the move more than I want the heal . It is a seriously good free action tho.
    0 points
  39. Yeah, my favourite trick with them is to run in to danger, then Ride With Me on an ally and run away again. You can get the trigger for the heal and heal an ally. I consider them expendable, though, so don't expect them to live past turn 3, as long as they produce some value in the first 3 turns.

  40. Also, I have to reiterate how much I love Rough Riders. They took Ride With Me, one of the best bonus actions in the game, AND STAPLED AN AFTER RESOLVING HEAL TRIGGER TO IT??? SO GOOD!!!

  41. Only sad part is no triggers, but that's probably alright for his ranged attack usually.

  42. It's an action generated by a trigger, so it's actually just Mad Dog and Alyce.

  43. Just realised this is the only 'Hold Down' trigger in Outcasts and it can be built in. Amazing!

  44. Note that whit the Red Joker, the official result of the damage flip is Severe (see pages 8 and 24 of the PDF, where 14 is the numeric value of the Red Joker) So, addressing the proposed possibilities in order: No. The Red Joker's "Severe+1" isn't an additional flip category. No. If you're attempting to read the Red Joker's "Severe +1" as a damage modifier, it can't apply because of the last paragraph of the Blasts rules--it's a damage modifier applying to the main target of the attack. This is the correct result. The Red Joker's Severe category is reduced to Moderate, and the +1 doesn't carry across.
    0 points
  45. Moderate, since Red Joker damage counts as Severe damage and Blasts do one step lower. Damage Modifiers do not carry over onto Blasts, so no +1 from Red Joker, Crit Strike, etc.
