  1. Hi there! i finished the Emissary! painting the guy and the trinkets in the baskets was a serious steady-hand test, i didn't do great, but i didn't have to correct many things after At the end i enjoyed it more that i thought i would.

  3. Great game, @Filox and well played. It was neck and neck, but I feel like I made a couple of mistakes and my opponent didn't. The right guy won this one Turn 1 I think I should have cheated initiative. I remember Filox flipped high, but I believe a severe from my hand would have been worth activating last with Titania T1. I told a friend before this match that I would be able to tell the caliber of opponent by how much they valued killing the Gorar, and well... it was relevant. I wasn't too concerned about losing the Malisaurus T1, but I definitely underestimated how deep J would be a

  4. Caedrus, reporting in! Here's a quick WIP for you all. I made a great start on my March painting, with the Tormented keyword being my objective. I've 90% finished most of the core box, which was an eBay rescue. My objective in this painting is to experiment with the best way to portray an incorporeal miniature. To that end, I started with Lady Ligeia, which I painted as a spectral figure: The tones at the bottom were to try to give the impression of the floorboards underneath, but I'm not sure of that has translated well. I'm pleased, however, with the overall miniature. So, fro

  5. I also just find it a shame from a thematic perspective because some of these lower-costed minions really seem to catch the aesthetic of what a keyword is meant to represent. Seeing Youko without Kunoichi and Geishas ist just sad and wouldn't really feel like Qi & Gong is supposed to feel. Same holds true for Mei. She's supposed to be the leader and champion of Malifaux's Railworkers, so it feels just wrong if she leaves them (meaning both Rail Workers and Kang) behind in favor of the Professor's discarded toys and a crazy good Horseman straught from an 80s Metal album cover. 7. 18 more soulstones that bring me to a total of 28ss for March. These were fun to work with, great example of how an alt model can fit in seamlessly with the crew fluff/aesthetics. Now the question is: where is my Dino ?

  8. Just been thinking about playdesign, and one issue is really standing out: discarding cards is sometimes too disruptive a cost. Lots of models are considered bad with it basically coming down to them not being able to fuel all their abilities because discarding is an unreasonable cost (Rasputina, Desperate Mercenary, Frontiersman, Lampads, etc). I'm wondering what other design options there are other than just 'discarding a card' while still having a cost, giving further balance options. Here's some ones I've noticed. Give distracted - McMourning gets distracted when summoning a Fles

  9. I think that alternative costs are good, but I'd do them in a crew by crew basis. Like a lot of Bayou stuff basically uses wounds as an alternative resource. Tara uses fast on opponent's ect. I don't think I'd spread it everywhere, but I think it can open up more design space. Like crews that have great card draw probably don't also need an alternative resource.

  11. I'm willing to quantify this. Models should be useful in 1/4 of pools/matchups at the low end and 3/4 at the high end. To follow up on your later post about bad magic cards, this still has good and bad models, but also every model can be used at least some of the time. I also don't believe there should be autotakes in a game that has back and forth crew selection.

  12. So you're spending stones for crit strike and having the rams for it(granted not hard against df 4)? And yeah you'll deal good damage to a model, but that's still 3 actions to kill a berserker husk. Or what if all you have to attack is a spell eater behind cover? Now you can't even get min 4. Suit dependent on a non-soulstone user. Even when not agaimst cadmus it's an unreliable plan. This is already the sign of a bad plan, regardless of what you're playing against. So yes, Fuhatsu is good into most stuff(too good if we're being honest), but most of his bonuses

  13. I don't think that competence and complexity are somehow intrinsically linked (even through Explorers happened ). Silurids are amazing yet amazingly simple. Hoarcats could simply have numbers big enough for them to be good without it affecting their noob-friendlyness one bit. Or make them cost 3 and suddenly they are crazy amazing. Also, I think that in general it's a very bad idea to make stuff that you learn with so bad that they're worthless once you get into the game proper even if it would make sense business-wise on the surface. This is basically the approach that Wyrd took with the

Here is my primary colors challenge mini: I had fun while mixing and paintig (thank you @lusciousmccabe for the tip with the recipe, it turned out well), but I had to paint it in 3 different days and matching the same color was a bit of a pain xD I am ok with the result, but not thrilled really. I've got to start learning more textures, because ir turned out quite boring and eveeything looks the same and does not look like stone. I hope to post some more minis this month, since I will get to play a non-

  18. In 2ed, Oxphordian Mages were considered really bad and in an effort to balance them, they got a 0 cost upgrade that reduced their price by 1 if you hired all 3. So reducing the cost for taking multiple of one model is something that's been done before.

  19. I've played against them twice, and I think on his slowest turn between both games he drew 3 cards. Most turns were 5+ (although I don't think he ever got quite to 10). I agree though that adding draw to everyone isn't the solution. I've mostly played Foundry, a keyword with no draw, and find it to be an interesting limitation.

  20. Malifaux used to have a very indepth terrain/event set up, but it was largely ignored (certainly in Tournements and probably most of the time in casual) where you picked a location for each game, each area had a 1-13 chart that told you the strange terrain/event that would happen this game. and then flipped to see what extra rules you got in the game. So, for example, if you fought in an arcanists lab, there might be a strange glowing machine in it that caused a possible good outcomes if you interacted with it, or you might find the place was filled with Arcing lightening so on some turns eve

  21. I understand it is a fantastic model, but is it good against Cadmus? Same way people keep taking Serena Bowman into Cadmus. She is a great model, but becomes a lot worse when it is trivial to ignore her demise.

  22. I disagree. There's a lot of stats to tweak in Malifaux (especially when you count in suits for Triggers and such) - I'm 100% sure that it would be possible to make Hoarcats good but not oppressive just through stat tweaks if Wyrd were so inclined. If a model would be perfect at 5.5 stones, make them 5 stones and take out a wound and lower their Wp by one or whatever. Or the other way around, make them six and add one to their severe damage and give them two extra wounds (not talking about Hoarcats here, obviously). The good thing about tweaking stats when balancing is that it is unl

  23. I just played a game of henchmen + 3 hoarcats vs. henchmen + 3 guild autopsies. One thing worth noting about these cheap minions is that they're fantastic for learning the game, precisely because they're so simple. So I think it worth remembering there is a lot of value in having some models that are good for learning, but eventually get left off the table when you get more competitive. If every cheap model was on the level of Beckoners, it'd be a bit trickier to teach the game with them.

  24. Always happy to give out advice to servants of the God Empress šŸ˜ˆ Ophelia is a feast or famine matchup for Nekima, and public enemies makes it somewhat more harrowing. You will live and die by when and where you start your engagements. Reach-robbing will be supremely important, as every AP Ophelia and Francois lose (or at least one that isn't spent dealing big beefy damage) is a huge breath of air for a crew with no innate damage reduction. Additionally, Nekima's general reliance on 10 stone models to ruin lives, who themselves all possess a weakness to ranged firepower, is especially dicey i

  29. Wyrd simply need to decide a models purpose. If Vincent is just meant to be good at killing summons, then his stats and cost need to be such that he is taken in 100% of games against a summoner in keyword. However, if the goal was that Vincent should be the bread and butter of most Reva crews with a little summon killing on the side, then stats and cost should be such that he appears in 80% of Reva crews no matter the opponent's master. With cheap models, they need a role defined. Are they road blocks? Are they a tech pick for a given strategy or type of scheme? Are they a damage threat t

  32. Well, part of the calculation is also "do I bother hiring this model in the first place." It seems for several model, that calculation ends up being that you just hire something else. I'm not saying don't put costs in, just seems like it'd be good to have more variety of costs. I'm not sure I've ever seen Transmortis draw that many cards (but then, I play a keyword that's pretty good at denying it). But even if they can, I'm not sure the answer is to just give everyone card draw rather than nerf Transmortis. I think card constraints tend to make the game interesting (except when t

  34. I think the problem is that there are only so many ways to make a low-cost model strong without making it complex. We'd end up with just a bunch of roided up low-cost models. Not to mention the half problem (there's likely a lot of areas where models can't be balanced one way or the other - stat 5 is too low, stat 6 too high. Suited leap is too much, unsuited leap is not enough. Etc). No matter the game system, there'll tend to be stuff where the perfect balance is at 5.5 rather than a whole integer (or 5.55 if you're allowed to go one decimal place, or 5.555 if two, etc).

  35. Stoked to see someone else else on the Harpoonist hype-train. Definitely give them a spin in Apex too. They're great precisely because they don't compete with the s needed to fuel other Reconfigure () models in EVS, and can use any low cards via Deep Discovery, which for a crew that sometimes struggles to get value from 1-4 cards, is a big deal. Plus they have 3 different ways to either rescue Cooper or push enemy models engaging him away.

  36. I think for most crews it's a fairly tough ask to spend 15ss on Versatile models. The crews I've played so far (Apex & EVS) are very Keyword-oriented, or at least the way I've played them so far. Most of the rest of the faction reads very Keyword-focused too. When you're stepping out of your Keyword, the models you reach for generally need to solve a specific problem that the Scheme Pool, board, or your opponent's Master poses. The Emissary solves a lot of enemy Master and Scheme Pools combinations (ie Vendetta, Assassination, and to some extent Take Prisoner and Catch & Releas

  37. If Nix is in the middle of a scrum and has soulstones to burn he is honestly a little ridiculous. Any time an opponent fails a duel within 3 for any reason he heals, so a Rat King attacking another model nearby will heal him. Hamelin's bonus can lead to so many attacks I've had Nix go from 2 health to full in Hamelin's activation. Hamelin's keyword in general is very good at shooting into Nix's melee and passively healing him, even before you account for factors like no cheating against the Wretch or Hamelin applying so much Injured the opponent is guaranteed to lose every duel. I will usually

  38. Interested to read the batrep! Also I just started playing Youko and she is not easy to play effectively, but those Geishas are worth their 4 points! That said, you didn't really say if you were new to the game, so I am going to assume you are and ramble on a bit more. Regarding strategy, I tend to be a much more 'macro' thinker, meaning my game plan is 90% settled once I approach the board and make the list. Only 10% of the plan is impacted by what actually transpires. For me, the prep-work and planning gives me something to work towards. Other people are much more fl

  41. Leveticus is actually quite easy to handle. Von Schtook should really had broken him, so I guess it was a matter of player skills. If Alice is a problem, maybe you're playing with very little terrain, or not enough concealing. Same in general for Leveticus, if you have a decent amount of severe terrain, the crew really stuggles. Any crew that has easy access to stunned, mele range 2 or conditions can be a problem for Leveticus. Add to that list: summoners, crews more mobile that can dictate when the fight is going to happen, anti-healing, anti-demise, crews that can easily kill the H

  42. I do think there was a philosophy mismatch from 2E to 3E that didn't get caught. And that is that in 2E being two models was a bonus, while in 3E being 2 models is a penalty. In M2E, cheap models gave you activation control (play against the Tara+6 Void Wretches list sometime). In M3E, having cheap models loses you activation control, because they give your opponent a pass token, then they die before they activate and your opponent gets the control. I'd love if Wyrd did a balance pass on all 6 stone and below models, because a lot of them need it. And I'd love it if the balance pass l
