  1. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we wanted to take a closer look into one of the aspects that makes the next Through the Breach expansion book special. In From Nightmares, not only will you have access to tons of new lore, equipment, Pursuits, and monsters to battle against, but you’ll also be able to create a Mimic, Nephilim/Half-Blood, Woe, or Nightmare Fated character using the new Bloodline Tarot character creation system. With new species comes new Talent options called Gifts of Darkness, which is what we’re focusing on today. (you can also find the image above as a wallpaper!)

  2. ...and here are the mercenaries! My apologies for the poor resolution. I had lots of fun with these guys. I really tried to go for a cold look for all but Taelor and Jake, as the theme I have created for this crew is a sort of Blade Runner android theme (backstory available on request). The magenta is there to really emphasise the coldness of the rest, and create a temperature contrast. The first Vik is a little too plain, and the second (kneeling) is a much prettier model, in my opinion. I learned a lot here, using white fluorescent paint (Vanessa's staff), and reall

  4. Thanks for all the insights guys! My friend was using the GG1 errata cards, so no worries there. We're all semi-newbies when it comes to Malifaux in my group, so finding ways to deal with certain crews is still a thing (Jack, Levi and Tara being the big names right now). I think being overly aggressive with positioning and cards, in combination with not knowing how to correctly respond are the main reasons I got beat so badly. Your point of focusing on the points is a good one - I try to keep the mantra in my head with every AP spent: "Does this score me points?" (I just need to listen to

  5. I like to hire a Malifaux Child along with the Prospector. Appraise is one of the most interesting actions the Child can copy.

  6. You're always gonna have a 12-13 by turn 2 and focus on your master, always. Also you should be stoning for cards twice anyways to stack your hand for turn 2-4 which is where the magic happens. To be honest you can get away with stoning every turn. Me personally I think slow is probably the strongest condition. I don't think I would ever choose another trigger unless I had a clear pathway to victory by killing a model. Your mostly just wanting to slow them to a halt and make it impossible to interact and move in the same turn. or move and attack in the same turn. Save your Mask trigger for wh

  7. Meanwhile the enemy crew just sits there and takes the same abuse turn after turn? If I got blasted and half my crew got slowed you can be sure that I wouldn't make that same mistake again. Those types of "big plays" typically only work once It's far too easy to theory out an amazing play for just about any model. However, getting it actually working on the table is another matter entirely. Yes she can do work, no question about that. It's just the matter in which she does it is the concern.

  9. Yeah... maybe just cut to the bone. Boost their survivability and give them a tactical free action "until eot enemy models treat the area within 2" as hazardous Blight 1."

  10. If Zipp is your Leader & you hire Von Schill, you can attach Equipment upgrades to Flying Piglets because they are non-Beasts Minions. Draw Essence & Festering Wounds can be copied by a Malifaux Child with no flip so it will always go off even though -2 Stat. Dead Outlaws can "Obey" The Guilty into being a Min 3 beater, really making the enemy want to kill The Guilty.

  11. A fair few people I play with locally didn't seem to realise that Obliteration models can end Fast on friendly models to Unbury. It's obviously not as efficient as tagging enemies, but if you want to have the insurance of being able to Unbury summons without winning duels against the enemy (and Aionus and Karina aren't enough) then a Scavenger or Student of Conflict can be a solid boon.

  14. If you have focus, if you get a severe, if you discard a card - you see the point? In a usual situation this cost a Master AP for Concentrate, a Severe for the attack (as the opponent can see it coming and is probably going to cheat high), another Severe for damage and a discard for the Trigger. 2 Master AP, 2 Severe (plus a Stone in 50% of the cases) and another card in a crew with no card draw... I'd say the outcome definitely should be impressive.

  15. Hi everybody!! It's my pleasure to announce the next event for the Malifaux World Series: Love is a Battlefield This event will be running from February 5th to the 28th (so you'll have some small break from competitive play and scheduling games between the current event and this one). Registration is open today and will be open until the February 4th 19:00 EST. This is a 3 rounds, 50ss, singles event, but also this time we'll have a twist! It's February, so time to show some love, love to our keywords and playing "in theme". To represent this, I've decided to put a limit

  16. Hi Everyone! I'm planning to get started in the game with a couple of crews to be able to play against my boyfriend. I'm have much more experience than him with miniature/skirmisher games so I'm trying to pick a keyword for myself that don't end being unfun for him to play against. The problem is that by what I've read/listened/watched about the game, I liked the summoner and control masters playstyle in general. I'll avoid summoners for now, as they need most of their boxes to work well. Which leaves me with the control masters. So I would like to ask the more experienced folk, there is

  17. I second Raspi. I often use her when showing the game to new players as she shows most of the elements of the game which make Malifaux what it is: one of the best miniatures games, ever. Up to now, everybody always understood really soon what to do against her and what to avoid and she isn't complicated at all (from the opponent's perspective). I like to play her and to play against her as she keeps both players busy without necessarily getting things killed with every single activation. So, there's quite some interaction going on. Another relevant point is that she introduces the n

  18. I agree, control is such a large set of possibilities you might want to say which play styles you like Most masters could be played in a controlling manner.
    1 point
  19. Control can mean a lot of different things in Malifaux, some of them more feelsbad than others. For example, hand control is more feelsbad than debuffing, which is more feelsbad than movement, imo. If you are looking for a classic control master that isnt too powerful, you could take a look at Rasputina. She focuses on ranged debuffing primarily, but has very clear counters to her playstyle so it feels like your opponent can do something about it.

  20. Definitely can't recommend Molly or Zoraida. Both are terrible for new players to play against. Youko is considered quite weak, so might be a good angle to consider. She does super mean control things, but is overall pretty weak?

  21. So there's a trick you can give it a Rocket Launcher, shoot, then Armoury from the Steam Trunk the Rocket Launcher to a Grenade Belt or Land Mines and use that bonus action because Flying Piglets don't have their own Bonus Action. ..... but mostly it's to see pigs with Rocket Launchers & Rocket Boots.

  23. I just realized that you can sit Ivan in concealing terrain and attacking from 10" away with stat 6 and a built-in , which automatically gives him a damage track of 3/4/5 (the model he attacks will always have concealment), while attacking him will become an uphill battle since he will have Concealment. Add to that the possibility of a 8ss summon with little investment... He's going right to the top 3 of masters no doubts

  25. As I have said previously, my issue is not with power. If Slow and Onslaught are problems with Ice mirror, then get rid them and give her something else. I don't care as long as its unique, thematic and above all interesting. My problem is that I feel punished for using her core mechanic, when I should feel rewarded. I want to use ice mirrors and have it do cool and interesting things outside of a 2/3/4 and potentially a blast. It gets old so fast.... Triggers are what make Raspy's actions interesting and currently I feel discouraged from using them in conjunction with her core mech

  26. Well the thing is yes, Turn one if they don't clump up, I.E they aren't running a focus bubble crew or any models that buff in a bubble, your life will be much harder. That is definitely part of rasputina's counterplay that I spoke about earlier. In that case you are giving out slow manually to fewer models, so you have to big brain and pick the important ones. The rest of the strategy doesn't change. Yes , you are correct that it doesn't always work. Can you imagine a strategy that always works, that's called broken. Anyone can just sit there and be like "oh that doesn't work 100% of the time

  27. No you can't ignore concealing as concealing deals with sight lines, not Line of Sight, an obvious example of this would be underbrush markers being ht 0, they would be pointless if you could ignore them if you were ht 1 or greater, as would alot of other markers.

  28. Hoffman loses nothing, but other crews you ll have to think a bit. No Rider for once should make life more difficult. Though folk is known to be inventive, this will be fun tournament to use for barely founded claims 😅 Phiona+Steward, Steward + Lawyer and already mentioned Phiona+Lawyer is still viable.

  32. One to start with is Freikorps with the Midnight Stalker. Thanks to hidden in plain sight he counts as having the same key words as the leader, when out of the leaders LoS. Hanna is a 50 mm so it is easy to hide him behind her, so: 1. Hanna can use adaptive tactics to copy his leap. She can use siphon power for the suit so it is trivial to pull the card for it. 2. The steam trunk can give him equipment upgrades and replace them for a card as he counts as Freikorps. 3. He is a valid target for the Engineers strengthen armour as you can draw a card after discarding for c

  33. What about having Winter's Strike at least one more Trigger? The crew is so card hungry and getting more value out of those high cards might also help her a bit without changing the overall feel of the crew/Master. Nothing fancy, Mutilate () comes to mind, and/or Critical Strike ().

  37. I get the sense that the issues are less about power and more about frustration. Personally I couldn't care less about where Raspy ranks against other Arcanists masters. As long as she's fair and interesting, then that's all I'm in it for. The point is that if you got no cards, you aren't doing much with Raspy. Even if you do have a healthy hand, then it's likely going to be completely depleted after her activation and it rarely feels all that special. A master activation should be high point of a turn and I rarely get that feeling when playing Raspy.

  42. So, this is a topic where I feel I can comment. I've searched for exactly this kind of gorgeous, saturated purple. As @SEV mentioned, airbrushes help. I'd add that multiple thin coats really help here. There's a depth of saturation that can't be achieved with one thick coat. In terms of colour, I recommend the following: Shadow: Scalecolor Violet (SC-56) Midtone: Vallejo Model Colour Royal Purple (VMC 70.810) Highlight: Vallejo Model Colour Magenta (VMC 70.945) Saturation can be increased (carefully) with coats of Scalecolor Inktense Violet. 43. Caedrus, reporting in with a mid-January update! So, I decided to do something stupid and try to build the Hannah that was always meant to be. It turns out that this is a harder, far more laborious task than expected. So, this has now been turned into a multi-month build. Here's where I am so far: More photos to come, very soon! Caedrus.

  44. @Miltarion is the winner. He mains Lady 90% of the time and she was used in rounds 2-5. The first game was Lucius. I took Hoff for turns 1 (against Parker),4 (lost to mentioned winner 😅 ), 5 (vs Kirai); and Sonnia rounds 2 (vs Schtook), 3 (vs arcanist Hoff). 45. TWIMC: a major tournament in Russia (42 players, 5 rounds) was won by a guild player yesterday. Another guild player finished on 3rd place (just 1 point of diff from the 2nd place). Not a single Dashel was hired by them. Looks like you are trying to nerf the wrong guy.

  46. Oh yeah, Lucius is a hard one. I'm not suited for the "obey your opponent" style, since I cant wrap my head around it in the midst of a game. Therefor I came to use Lucius in different kind of ways. One (obvious) way is the "shift of AP" in which I use the AP of Lucius, Lawyer, Changeling and sometimes Vasilisa or Agent 46 to activate another model - preferably a minion-beater, agent 46, alan reid or angel eyes to stomp someone. Of course coordinated attack can be used this way, too. In the following core-list I tend to use Lucius as a "little" devilish puppet master for collodi is DMH.

  49. I've painted a bit of Warhammer but the enormity of the task of painting a Warhammer army really put me off. I managed to achieve an OK look by basically just base coating models and slathering them in wash. They looked a bit messy though. Here're some Lynch models I think are painted well, my suspicion is that washes have not been used:
