  1. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo had a mental breakdown. Despite all the hellfire, brimstone, and burps, it turns out our little imp was more sensitive than we originally thought. In an effort to ease his mind, we built a makeshift sauna in the warehouse and cranked it up a couple hundred degrees (just a little hotter than the Georgia standard temperature) and within minutes, he was right at home. But just in case, we scheduled a therapy appointment for him (but not before explaining to them that their new patient has a tendency to spontaneously combust, of course). So while he’s out teaching his therapist how to use a fire extinguisher, it’s time for us to reveal another upcoming unit in The Other Side, the Gwisin! In The Other Side’s core rulebook, readers got just a glimpse of the ever looming Neverborn threat on Earth. These conspirators, spies, and spirits reach out into every human society and culture, pulling and plucking on their strings like violinists manipulating all who listen. We were introduced to their leader, Anton de Wils, a mysterious and ancient shapeshifter, but were only presented with more questions than answers. He rules from the shadows with fear and chaos, and at the command of Binh Nguyen and Kirai Ankoku, his army of captured and enslaved ghosts allow for his work to be completed in relative secrecy. But secrets can only remain secrets for so long. Rumors are spreading of translucent, masked apparitions popping up in strange places, seeking vengeance against those who have wronged them in their previous lives. How the Court of Two has managed to manipulate and control these ethereal spirits as soldiers in their endless army is unclear, but these old spirits bring with them a haunting and formidable presence on the battlefield. The Gwisin are an unit for the Court of Two in the Other Side, contained in the upcoming Starter Box and sold separately so players can add more to their ghostly Company if they so desire. Unlike most units in The Other Side, the Gwisin can essentially act independently of one another, allowing themselves to spread out across the table. This becomes particularly handy when paired with their Revenge Ability, which allows them to strike back at an opponent if a nearby friendly Fireteam suffers a Hit. But because they are single model Fireteams, they’ll need to rely on the Court of Two’s Ghostly Ability, provided by their Envoy/Allegiance card, allowing them to discard a Crow from their hand to avoid being damaged. The Gwisin also become more powerful the longer they stay on the table, as their Magical Melee Attack, Ethereal Viscera, grows stronger based on the Turn. If you feel a cold breeze out of the blue, or feel something gently brush against your skin but nothing seems to be there when you take a look, or you hear an object in the distance fall without rhyme or reason, consider taking a picture or grabbing a mirror. Below is a render of the Gwisin; if you see these spirits in your Polaroid or in the reflection, we consider going for a light jog and possibly never coming back. But this week isn’t all ghosts and haunts. We’re also excited to talk about the special offer that we had previously announced is now up and running. For any and all of the Malifaux Third Edition books (which includes the Core Rulebook and the Faction books) that you purchased a physical copy of, you can now submit your receipt to receive a digital PDF of the same book that you purchased. This offer starts NOW and will continue through December 15th. Please allow for 10 business days to receive your digital DriveThruRPG code (oh, you’ll need a DriveThruRPG account, just in case that wasn’t clear). We’ll start handing out the digital codes in the middle of the month, but you can start submitting your receipts now. And, yes, if you ordered an M3E book during our Gen Con web sale, the receipt you received counts toward this promotion. Even if you have not yet received your physical copy yet, you can get your digital book this month. You just have to send your receipt in to us by using the appropriate form. To start, head to our special promotion page HERE. That’s it from us. See you next week!

  2. AND THEN THIS HAPPENED! You know what's really useful for a Youko project plog? If you've been following along, you probably know the answer. YES! FINALLY! Yesterday was Labor Day here in the States, which made it a big 3-day weekend filled with activities and family, AND there was no paint night last night, so I haven't cracked this bad mamma jamma open yet, but now I feel like I can finally get actually started. Dug this up while rearranging the basement, it will be...useful? Excessive? Both? Lots of horrible self-flagellating freehand punishment awaits!

  6. You're correct. Vice versa, if you've used a bonus action while you have stunned and then lose stunned that bonus action no longer counts against your action limit.

  8. Hey all, I've provisionally booked a table of 10 at 7pm at BrewDog Shepherd's Bush, 5 minutes down the road from Dark Sphere. Plenty of food and beer available. If you could let me know if you're interested as I can increase the table size. Rich

  9. Hah. Thanks for asking😀. I have only played one match since the battle I reported some time ago. It was flank cursed idols against my arch-nemesis, Doctor McMourning. Similar crews as last time, I tried scorpius (sucked most of the poison out of his crew, then got sawed to pieces by the Doc himself) and he had Archie instead of Rogue. Did not make notes, but I remember the mauler was having a long fight against Archie over an idol in one flank, miners provided me more stones than I managed to use by the end of game, and Marcus did a flying assassination on Sebastian, red jokering damage flip 😀. We ended up 3-3 I think. Looking for next battle on the coming Saturday.. I am planning to bring Envy this time🎹..

  11. I use the GW cemetery sets to make an interesting table. I think I use between 1 and 1.5 sets worth (They used to sell it at half the size it is now). Its certainly one of the simplest ways to get a reasonable table, as that 1 box will make a a varied table.

  12. @mythicFOX, that is an amazing looking board! OP, I find terrain to be hugely impactful on games, and different setups will affect different crews differently. It may be worthwhile just making some super basic terrain (a chunk of cardboard representing a forest, a mug representing a building) until you've played with the effects and have a feel for what they are. But I'll try to give a breakdown of some of the terrain effects on gameplay here. Blocking: blocks Line of Sight (LOS), so hampers ranged crews. Concealing: Gives bonuses against ranged attacks. Dense: Hampers LOS, so hampers ranged crews (but also can give them good sniping positions, for instance shooting you from inside a forest, they're protected). Destructible: Good way to be able to influence terrain with actions. Favours crews that can afford to spend actions altering the landscape. Hazardous terrain punishes squishy crews, and crews that need to get to specific locations. Typically worse for melee than shooty crews. Climbable: can give shooting crews a nice vantage point to shoot from, but also gives access to them. Mitigates the impassable nature of say a building. Impassable: limits mobility. Typically is blocking as well, so tends to give some good hiding places for melee units advancing. However, it can also force the melee units to advance along 'murder corridors' where their predictable movement gets them picked off by a sniper waiting at the end. Severe: reduces movement by half. Extremely effective terrain, tends to hamper crews that need to move (so usually melee crews). Incorporeal models and flyers can ignore terrain for movement purposes (and incorporeal also ignores hazardous terrain damage and effects). All the models in the game are balanced around an assumption of some of the relevant terrain, but not overwhelming amounts. When I play against Kirai with my Molly crew, the amount of severe terrain makes a huge difference. Not enough, and her incorporeal models are useless. Too much and I can't move anywhere. So try to get a mixture of terrain types, and at a very basic level, consider "some stuff to limit mobility, some stuff to limit shooting, some stuff to bolster shooting, and some interesting effects." A note of caution about interesting effects, however. Almost every time I've used hazardous terrain in one of my games, the entire piece of terrain was just avoided by both sides all game. Terrain is very impactful! EDIT: Also, the big thing is to just experiment. Part of my point here is that there's a huge amount of variety, and it does matter. But when faced with a choice like that, the best cure for it is experience. Just try different stuff out. If you have to use a piece of paper to represent a forest the first few games, that's fine.

  13. Welcome to Malifaux! Having a third of the board covered in terrain is a rule of thumb. It can be more or less, and a lot depends on the type of terrain you're using, as some stuff impacts the game more than others. Generally terrain is there to do some combination of; disrupting movement, giving cover/concealment, and completely blocking line of sight. When building terrain I generally aim for 1/6th of the board doing all three and 1/6th doing two of the above things. In Malifaux it's best to have a lot of little pieces than a few big ones. You don't want any single piece of terrain covering half a sheet of paper worth of board, with the majority of the terrain being smaller than your mobile phone. Quick tip for easy terrain; FOG. Grab the smallest bag of teddy-bear stuffing from amazon, cut a few shapes in a grey felt (or even card) and drop the stuffing on top. Looks good and it's cheap. If you look on my twitter you'll see examples of the kind of terrain I use, for example; https://twitter.com/mythicfox83/status/1105783544935268352?s=21 https://twitter.com/mythicfox83/status/1111942581292879873?s=21 (Note that this Arcanist lab board is probably lighter in coverage than average because the wall sections have a higher impact on play than their footprint suggests). Hope that helps, any questions just ask.

  14. Some general tips for taking Youko into Nekima. Disguised is a great defense as Nephilim are pretty much all about combat: Kunoichi, Chiyo, Geisha all have this. Combat Finesse on Kabuki warriors is also amazing for this too. Avoid things with a 1" melee or less if possible to reduce Black Blood splash damage. For this I'd avoid Hinamatsu as well as she relies on lots of attacks, which will just kill herself from Black Blood. Try to Focus and do big hits. I'd take Bill over Hina. Nephilim massively out-speed you so will dictate fights on their terms. To prevent this, use Lures to bring them into you (after they've activated). Another option is to take a shooter. My favourite is Fuhatsu. Yamaziko could be a good choice... with Extended reach and Finesse, she's surprisingly durable and can protect others from chargers. Great teacher will greatly aid Kabuki warriors/Kunoichi actually hit Mature Nephilim (they also have Combat Finesse).

  15. Got some playtesting in with Lynch and a proxied Youko crew over the past few weeks. Love the feel, reeeaaallly needs Hinamatsu against killy crews. Still fiddling with lists, but Shadow Emissary is pretty funny in Qi and Gong.

  17. My Miss Feasance will be the anti-Seamus. Ladies of the Night, time for revenge! If Emeline Bellrose (who will replace Sybelle) has stayed sane, why can't the Belles and Doxies? Sane in the sense that they think putting down an especially abusive John is a good deed. Size 1 for the Copycat Killer is a fact, I know, but I will use my spare Miss Ann Thrope (with some big Garden Shears) as a Proxy anyway.

  18. I've played a bit of last blossom and I think that statement is underselling them. Misaki can hit almost any point of the table if played right; she can be destroying an scheme runner in one corner of the map one turn and the next one appear and help in a fight for the control of the middle point. Charge throught plus an stat 7 means she can hit very reliabily for maximum damage (which could be 7) once per turn (if she is versus hard to hit models, she would need to spend a focus for that tho). Versus clumped enemies without damage reduction Lightining strike is amazing, in the ideal conditions it could deal 12 damage to each enemy in range (realistically 6-8). Note that even without armor she has extended reach and mobile warrior; attacking her in mele is very ineficient for a lot of models. Ototo is a bit slow but hits like a truck (kind of like Misaki, but with stat 6 so not that reliable) and can gain fast after a kill. If misaki is near, the Oyabun's command could be used to get an extra attack with him and trigger "Charge through" a second time. Plus Masked Agent may help him to get where he should be. And he can deliver a lot of Slow. That keyword has also good scheme abilities and scheme runners, good shooters, lots of range 2 meles with extended reach and Minako, who can summon Katashiros out of shadow markers. And TT in general has some versatiles that will help to round the creed (Samurai/Fuhatsu, Tanukis, Lone swordman, terracota...). Misako may be used as a killy master, but she has also the mobility to play outmanouver the other team and go for scheme markers. I'm not saying they are god tier or easy to use, but I don't think LastBlossom is a bad keyword.

  23. Just finished watching and have to say that I really enjoyed it! Just about right timing, not at all too long (have been put off with 2+ hour reports in the past). I really like how you show the card draw, and the mid game chat was really good to see how the guys felt they were doing and plans going forward. My request would be more gremlins reports, but I’m subscribing and likely watch all future reports. I appreciate the huge effort it goes into making these vids so thanks muchlies.

  26. The question has been asked before, and there are some people split both ways. I think that the Trigger creates the charge action, and the Charge action creates the attack, so the attack was not created by a trigger and can declare triggers. EDIT - Although I can't find the debate anymore, so it may have happened in the Beta forums. I'll still stick with my answer, but just be aware some people have disagreed with it in the past.

  28. If you've paid attention to how the distributor system is working this is highly unlikely. Wyrd orders stock based on what distributors pre-order, then ship this out. Distributors pre-order based on the interest from retailers, and distribute amongst their customers. What has happened here is that several distributors have underestimated demand, and tried to get more than their original order. This has caused a lack of product all over the world. The idea that wyrd would secretly stash away some products and only ship them abroad is wildly conspiratorial at best, disingenuous and dishonest at worst. If UK distributors got the set you can be certain that US distributors got it as well. Probably not in high enough numbers, but that's largely the fault of retailers and distributors (Wyrd has stated they ordered way more product for the release than the estimates, but still not enough to satisfy demand). Maybe some retailers (or even many) didn't get stock; either they didn't order enough or early enough or they got screwed by their distributor. Or both. And there you go. If a single retailer got it then it's demonstrably false that the distribution chain in the US did see the product.

  29. I think the point was that if you have ordered the book from Wyrd then you have bought the book. It might be a nice gesture of goodwill to speed up the delivery of digital codes to people who have bought the book but will now have to wait longer for the physical copy to be delivered. It isn't as if Wyrd would be providing anything they would not be providing anyway.

  33. So, golden rule has always been "start with what you think is the coolest!" Don't worry about play style, other things in the same faction later on, planning for your eventual purchase of the whole line of models.... Play what looks and viserally feel awesome to your specific tastes. Then, once you've done that, then grow. But if you don't have your roots solid in what you like, you won't grow. Worry about your future, your local meta, building your own personal creed afterwards. Start with one crew, enjoy the game here and now.
