  1. @Franchute, here are my models from this month (they're still a bit glossy from the varnish, but they were too wet to spray with the matt varnish for these photos. I'll be spraying them in a couple of days and they should go completely matt): Ryle: 9ss Executioner: 9ss Witchling Thrall: 9ss Guild autopsy: 4ss 4 Clockwork traps: 8ss For a total of 39ss. Unfortunately I didn't get through my entire in-progress pile this month as I had hoped, am I OK to pledge the remainder for February or should I start with brand new models? Cheers,

  2. Finished!! Lady Justice is complete fulfilling my pledge this month for 15 soulstones! I am very happy with how she turned out, however I don't think my pictures do her... justice haha but I hope you all enjoy! Any feedback would be much appreciated.

  4. Well... still an hour to go before midnight here in Spain, so I've finished up Mr. Rougarou, and here he is, complete with super bright 'what the hell is wrong with my phone?' highlights He has slightly bluey glowy eyes but you can't see it here (or much of anything. But I assure you all, it looks really OK!) And that's another 8SS painted, hurrah!

  5. Here are my 14 SS for January. I painted the cherub as a Weeping Angel. They are Doctor Who monsters that hang around cementeries pretending to be statues until you look away and then they get you from behind. Seemed fitting I also made him a bright pink arrow, because it's the colour of loooove. And here's my second mini of the month, the one and only Teddy! His eyes look a bit weird from this angle but he's OK in person. My boyfriend called the poor sweetheart "nightmare fuel". He's got no taste PS: Sorry for the photo quality, I took them on my phone and it burn

  6. Here we go! As a late Christmas gift to a friend, Seamus' box (totalling 40ss) + Yin (8ss) + a Nurse (5ss), and two Hanged (18ss). For me, Toni and Winter Wonderland Raspy (30ss together) Total: 101ss.

  7. The Will o' the Wisp is finished and the 3 SS it is worth are enough for my minion pledge Now I have to varnish it, let the varnish dry for at least two days (otherwise dust and cat hair stick to it ), add some leafs, take proper photos and post them here and on my blog The Monthly Painting Challenge helped me to be more organized and disciplined with my painting, which is great. Already looking forward to painting another miniature

  9. And boop: After finishing the monk practically in one week I perked up and completed one of my other models, that had been sitting half-painted for months (I have way too many of those). I thought those wouldn't count towards the challenge scoring, but apparently they do. So, 4 more ss for me for January. Unfortunately the picture is still rather terrible, I swear the dress is a lot more purple and the tights aren't pure black in real life.

  11. Less flippantly: The difference between Yan in Res and TT comes down to upgrades and in-faction models (shocking). Ultimately I feel TT give Yan more options as an aggressive beater, and Resurrs provide better options for defensive play where Yan's support role shines. These differences aren't hugely substantial in my mind. Going into a bit more detail, I'll focus on what I see Resurrs bringing to the table. Chi generation through flack summoning A caveat: I am not a subscriber to the idea that Yan needs blood ascendant turn 1 every game at all costs. 2x chi turn 1 is

  13. Candy is indeed an official Wyrd model; I'm showing my age with 'Faux now! She is Candy the Petulant youth that came with Pandora's Avatar of Insanity from first edition. You'll see her listed as an official proxy on pg.3 of Gaining Grounds. This month I'm still putting off the rats I'll be working on the 2 Rat Kings here (16ss) and see what else takes my fancy. Yes one of the Rat King's has Catelin Abrnathy's face attached. I wanted more creepiness in my crew!

  15. I have had this guy half painted for several months, so I decided to quickly finished it so that I would not be ashamed anymore by how long it took me to paint a peon. The electrical creation for an additional 4 soulstones, putting me at 26: I'm already seeing imperfections from the picture. I might touch it again later.

  16. I always thought the average result with a was 9. The real answer ends up depending on so many variables that it not the same for everyone. if you really want something to succeed then is worse than a +2, stat because you don't have the same range of possibilities. But if you want to preserve your hand as much as possible then is probably better than +2 stat, because you are much less likely to need to cheat first, and so get maximum value from your hand

  17. Whoa, so many new models since yesterday morning! Just a couple of comments to add to my "likes": @tjgreenway A higher ratio, but not by much. It may seem counter-intuitive, but you actually want a pretty good sized brush (at least a 0, I use a 1) so it holds some paint. Then it's a combination of a light touch and a sharp tip to get the thin straight lines. If your brush is too small, you'll often run out of paint partway through your line. Here's a picture of the Specialist I painted for January with my primary brush (a size 1 Winsor & Newton kolinsky sable) next to it:

  21. Honestly the most important thing imo is to be cheap. The extra +1 point when you score against a more expensive model is super useful. My go-to is Raphael LaCroix with Dirty Cheater. Armour and Hard to Kill make him a very unappealing target. Reckless allows him to never be on full wounds so you don't give away many points at all, and with the recent errata, he is one of the cheapest Enforcers in the game, giving him the +1 point against basically everyone.

  27. I was wondering about the odds of flipping different cards given different hand sizes, , (not done yet), etc. So I generated some tables and figured would be easy to determine exactly what a was worth. Once I had the tables it wasn't as easy as I thought. I posted the tables on line as well as my thoughts what a is worth. Here's a link to the tables: http://glowingsaber.com/math.html I've put a copy of my thoughts here. I'm wonder what everyone else thinks a is worth. How much is a worth? On average a single card flip will yield a 7, a flip will yield a 10, and a

  30. @Aaron You definitely bring up some good issues about the faction (though I disagree that Gremlin's don't need cheap spammable models). There was a time when Ulix was considered broken...and yet he isn't any longer. I don't recall any changes to him, people just learned to play against his weaknesses (and like all gremlins these weaknesses are easily exploitable). Hell there was a time Som'er was considered the ultimate Gremlin (talking about in this edition). Frequent cries of how broken he was filled the air, particularly in regards to Bigger Hat Than You and Bayou Two Card...and yet S

  31. That's rough. Queeg is sort of clutch for that list, not only for Promises, but because he's really your only hope once your Riflemen are engaged. As you noted, the engaging models don't even have to be particularly effective in combat (Steam Arachnids) to completely shut down the Riflemen for the remainder of the game. Being able to whip enemies out of engagement, and then Companion into the Rifleman to shoot them is really your only defense. An Executioner certainly brings a decent amount of melee power, but he's sort of working at cross purposes with the Riflemen since he wants to be en

  34. I salute your modeling fortitude. I put the left track assembly together and then decided I'd just let my poisoned Freikorps burn. I'll finish the Nothing Beast this weekend in all likelihood but my real pledge is Miss Terious for 6SS. I can already tell she's going to be a pain to prep. Terrible casting offset.

  35. Is there something wrong with double illuminated, a beckoner and Hugster? Lure in the enemy leader, drug them uo and wreck them with double illuminatee charges? Hugster is careful turn one and can do his heal from his own models and anyone you happen to brilliance up.

  36. Wong's Df Trigger is just a basic Squeel so it only works against Enemy Attacks. But Gracie (or Old Major) with a Saddle is a great way to transport Wong for long distances. Gracie is also a fine target for Glowy.

  37. Yin is excellent in small model games. Doesnt synergise particularly with the crew, but doesnt need to. Can potentially lock down two models a turn while engaged with a third.

  38. I respect your opinion, also it's a very short time that i play with arcanists after a period with neverborn, so i'm the first to admit that i don't even know arcanists as you all. But i read new strategies and i don't think colette is so horryble; it's not just a matter of cheaper activations; 3 of 5 strategies are based on interact actions in which colette excels; for example: just think about strategies like ply for information or or sybols of authority.. and you play colette with some moleman; with disapp. act you can deliver them wherever you want on the table! take condition f

  39. I have a tournament the 11th where I will be playing neverborn. I still have to finish lilitu, who shouldn't take a lot of time. And I'm building and converting the hooded rider, which will take a lot more time and I'm really hoping I get him finished before the tourney. I have some more neverborn stuff which I'm not planning on playing, but I might make it a neverborn month and get everything finished that I have still sitting on my paint table.

  42. @Shock & Awe Thanks for the kind words....as for burlap sack well...yeah 😉...but I just thought "what have these things got inside of them ?"....and my answer was "lots of bad stuff"...so I wanted them "dark" and therefore concentrated on making them look like they'd be a real bother as opposed to just burlap.....the blends were done using a mix of contrasting orange, violet and pale green built up with many many layers of Vallejo Glazing Medium which is a whole new game for me but allows for all sorts of adjustments along the way without obscuring any details - cannot recommend it enough

  43. Sorry for the delay in response. For my mats I use cotton drop cloths like these below for my foundational layer (provides strength, pliability, and texture increases adhesion). They are available fairly inexpensively at the DIY stores and one will provide multiple mats. A 9' by 12' seamless cotton drop cloth made from 8 oz Canvas runs for about $25.00 on Amazon. I wash and dry mine before applying the next layer to remove any unwanted "mystery" coatings and also improve adhesion ability by fluffing up the fibers. If you have creases you can apply the iron to it to smooth t

  44. Here is my pledge for the month: Dismounted Rollins Black, Mounted Rollins Black, Iggy Pup, and Cherri Bomb Question: I know that masters count as 15SS, but do I have to complete both the mounted and dismounted versions of Rollins to get that 15SS? I'm planning to paint them both, but I'm wondering if there might be some stipulation as that's two separate models to paint. (PS - I'm not winging about this, I'm fine taking 15SS for painting them both, I'm just curious ) So for now I will assume this is 15SS for Mounted/Dismounted Rollins, 4SS for Iggy Pup, and 9SS for Cherri Bomb for

  45. Greetings All, My pledge for this month will be a 50% increase! Behold the 36 parts that make up the 3SS Steam Trunk! I bought some eBay salvage-miniatures of a Von-Schill crew, so I need a test-bed for a colour scheme. That's if I get any painting done. Just gluing this thing together is going to take some time. Have fun painting, all! Caedrus.

  49. Don't worry about what others would say, you just do you. You have some shading on there and overall it looks really clean. My only suggesting would be to work on the base. You can really make a model fit in with not a lot of work and you may even find it fun coming up with little scenes.
