I decided to take a somewhat subtle approach to the theme, figuring that in a in a post-apocalyptic world the loss of little commodities that we take for granted would only serve to illustrate that it truly is the end of the world, as we knew it.

Alternatively, it could be taken as a hyperbolic use of the theme.....
