First up is a model named Raqel Gothic. It's a 1/7 scale resin model, which means it'll be roughly 10 inches tall when it's done. I'll try to do this in stages and give regular update with pictures. Anyways, here's a picture of the resin base for this particular project. It's a bit white-washed in the photo, but gives you the sense of the wonderful detail in these models. I'll try to get it painted up by the end of tonight or tomorrow, and get a photo of the finished base up for you guys. I was thinking white for the clock face, but I think I'm leaning towards a white-opalescent,.. you know,.. the stuff that's sort of green when you look at it one way, and pink when you look at it another way. Hope you enjoy,..
Webmonkey
First update. I haven't gotten as far as I'd like, but now that there's a bit of color for contrast, you can start to see it come together. Also, the pearl on the clock face isn't showing as well as I'd like. Might go back to a straight white.
edonil
How many layers have you got on there for it?
Webmonkey
Next update. About 7 hrs into this, and all I've managed to do is the numbers. But still it's coming along. I'm thinking a gold color for the outer scroll work. Ed>> Several,.. I didn't really count though.
Mako
That looks almost distressingly neat. And from the way the light is hitting the face, once the trim is done up it will work much more I reckon.
Webmonkey
hrmm,.. got the 2 clock hands to attach,... what time should it be on the dial?? They can't really go the 5 or 6 because the foot blocks those, and the 12 is out because the axe drops down into the crack on the face.,....hrmm,.. VerBla
Read something about jeweller stores selling watches putting it at 15 to 2 or 10 to 3 as it would be the most aesthetic
Mister Shine
Watches usually display at 10 to 2 i believe
Webmonkey
yeah, I was thinking 2:45ish myself. I had thought about doing it at 2:40,.. but the straight line of the hands just seems off and wrong. for some reason, (mostly aesthetics like you said) I think they need to be off-set from one another. Mister Shine
Never straight, never pointing down you want a V shape of some sort
Webmonkey
Well,.. I'll finish up the gold scroll work around the outside, then post a new pic for you guys. And maybe, just to give you guys a sense of scale, I'll include Lord Chompy,.. just for the visual comparison factor.
Mister Shine
If it wasnt painted in an hour I wont even look at it
Webmonkey
Got the gold started. It's gonna need several more coats, but it's helping to define the clock-face a bit more. And the 2nd pic is just for scale reference.
Mako
Ha, love that second shot. You know it's a big kit when chompy looks tiny! You're right, the gold really sets the face up. I'm enjoying watching this.
Webmonkey
A few hours (and several million coats) later,....
Webmonkey
Even more hours,.. and even more coats later,... And with the hands added,... and here, I've tossed a wash on it to dull it down and "antique" it some,.. might need another wash or two before I'm done. Webmonkey
I think I'm mostly happy with the base as it stands. So then,... on to the next bit. Next up, we have the axe,.. here's pic of the pieces,.. And one of what it's more or less going to look like when assembled,...

Webmonkey
It's been a few days since I've been able to touch this project. But I've got the axe assembled. It was a bit out of alignment, but a few minutes under a hot lightbulb warmed the resin up and I was able bend and straighten as needed. Now it's looking about as good as can be expected. However, the rear of the axe is supposed to have a spike, but the model came in damaged and the tip of the spike was missing. So, now I'm trying to figure out the best solution. Should I attempt to greenstuff in a new spike tip? Or should I just grind down the existing resin into a new, smaller spike?? edonil
I say grind it down, honestly.
Webmonkey
Agreed. So,.. a few minutes and a dremel tool later,...
edonil
...woah. If I didn't have that 'before' picture, wouldn't be able to tell.
Webmonkey
ok, got the axe primed. Shot this one on white paper, so it didn't bleed into the black background. All in all, I think the spike comes off believable enough.
