Painting with the speed of a thousand dead courtesans in stasis chambers

First of all, this is the first time that I've seen a good use of backdrop when photographing minis for something other than commercial publications. Very evocative! I also like that your photos are big enough to really appreciate the paint jobs.

Then the minis. I like them. The extremely bold highlighting makes for a wonderfully painterly look that fits these models really well. I mean, that lamp post on the third Belle's base is absolutely brilliant!

As for Bete, from the waist up she looks absolutely stunning. The skirt is a tad odd, though, with the black recesses being so uniformly black on wide areas. Her skin is amazing, though.

These all look really great! I especially love the Seamus and Sybelle. Where did you get the cat model for the Seamus? Great idea!

As a sidenote I hate cameras, they all just refuse to take proper pictures. And no, it's obviously not about the photographer...snow.gif

Thank you! It was actually my wife that forced me to make it because she thought that just pure white background, or even worse, a computer, made the models look worse. In hindsight, I definately agree. It might be harder to see every nook and detail, but it feels better.

Worst thing about size though is that you can see all the mistakes you made :P

Thank you again! Lamp post was a bit of a test, I've never done anything like it but in the end it turned out all right. :)

Yet again, thanks, because very few bother with constructive criticism. :P I didn't notice it while painting, but you might actually be right. Considering she's supposed to be all shadowy and stuff I left a lot of her skirt all black, but maybe I overdid it. Good thing is, she's already sealed, so I don't need to worry about her anymore! I'll just think about it next time I paint something similiar. :D

Thanks!

Regarding the cat, it's from Wyrds uhm.. "Victorian base accessory kit" or whatever it was called. I tried to make it striped a'la Chesire cat, but it turned out to be trickies than I thought! He still looks just the right amount of smug to fit our lovely hatter. :D

Thanks! I'll take a peek. :)

Doh, I always forget about those accessory kits. I actually did see the cat before and the thought of using it with Seamus just never crossed my mind even though half the reason I wanted to be Seamus was because of Alice in Wonderland.

Didn't we all? :D

On another note, I'm almost done with this crew and I'm already looking towards expanding or getting a new master. I'm facing a dilemme though...

I'm a bit interested in getting a second crew in order to be able to demo, and if so, I guess another faction would be good.

I'm thinking Sonia Criid to get some nice blastyness, but the models are not...overwhelming, just "pretty" nice. The idea of putting Criid on a flame base and do her all flamey is intriguing. Plus, Guild feels nice to go up against Ressers. Another, practical plus is that you basically don't need anything but her starter box to go.

Second master I'm considering is McMourning, considering I already have some resser-minions painted. Problem is, even if it's just to expand, I still need -at least- McM starter box and 4 dogs, so in the end it'll be more expensive to expand around ressers than it would to just go with the guild :P

Lastly, I guess I could just expand Seamus with some hanged and maybe Jack Daw, but it feels like I have a solid bunch for him. Hanged aint really a natural choice for McM, so, again, it wouldn't be of much use for interchangeability...

If anyone got any input regarding expansion, I'm more than happy to receive it, because I'm having real trouble deciding. :P

Ah well. Hugha.

Thanks everyone!

My last Malifaux figure is now done, so I guess I'll have to go back to painting other stuff for a while. :/

They've really been a blast to paint, and I ended up ordering some witch hunters, so hopefully I can get to them once Maelstrom sends them.

Until then, I'll just have to try and finish up my remaining Infinity miniatures!

Ah well, Convict gunslinger:

Time fer resurrectin'!

Too bad it's not resurrectionists. Ah well, new crew new issues. I can't for the life of me figure out what colours to use for Sonnia and her posse.

This is the WIP:

sonniawip.jpg

Now, I feel comfortable with the blue-grayish pastel-like coat, but I'm just not sure about the red. Any ideas out there on how to best complement the coats colour?

Since the picture might be a bit distorted from lightning, I might as well add that the coat is Midnight blue, Twilight blue and Snow shadow, reaper paints.

Maybe the red needs to be really bright to pop out, or maybe it needs to be darker to blend in...or maybe it shouldn't be red at all. I could really use some input here. :(

Do note that I've just about only shaded the coat properly, the red right now is more of a prototype tryout-shading that needs a lot of fixin'. I just want to decide whether or not to even continue down that red road...

Decisions, decisions!

An eternity later, and she's pretty much done!

With a 100% vote in favour for yellow and painted face...I went with that. The paint aint super clear in the pictures, but she got blue eyeshadow and red lipstick. As for the flames, I was trying to go for a "I'm standing in a sea of flames, but I'm still cool" look, but it's trixy with static models. :(

Ah well. I might go and replace the pics later today/someday because I'm not all that satisfied with how they turned out. Bright light, iphone, late at night is obviously not a recipe for taking decent looking pictures. But yeah, since the model looks better irl than on these pics, I'll try and arse myself...soon.

Alright, been ages, again, since last time, but a big update!

Five models might not be that much of a huge update, on second thought, but hey. 100% (now -that's- a lot!) of my current witch hunting force done.

The group shot:

A better-than-before-shot of Sonnia in all her smirkyness:

And finally, the Witchlings:

I decided to go all-out on a themed colour scheme, as opposed to the Redchapel gang, and it feels like it came out alright. I'm glad I got talked out of swapping from red to yellow.

Now I'm all out of Malifaux minis again, though! Got a governors proxy and a Freikorps specialist incoming eventually, but for now I will try to finally sit down and assemble my Infinity Su-Jian (MEINE GOTT they are a tricky bunch to assemble...)

What creative work! I adore your colour schemes and i must say your belle with the lamp post is impressive! i hope that you get some neverborns for me to drool over too!!! :) Well done!

Thanks! Dunno about Neverborn just yet though... I'm feeling the pull of Lucius, but once Collodi gets out...who knows what'll happen!

A very bright aqnd striking scheme. I approve. And the background work there is excellent, as well.

Thanks! I'm happy about the switch from red to yellow, even though I've had my doubts throughout the process of painting them...
