green stuff
Does anybody recall the name of a cartoon that aired in the late mid '80s? It had a postapocaliptic setting with 2 clans of "knights" who battled to control some type of spirit-magic. Once a knight gained a power, he could call upon the spirit and transform into it (kind of like He-Man meets transformers ). If I recall correctly, they also produced action figure toys with holograms on them to represent the powers. Thanks in advance for the answer . witchfire
Visionaries the knight aslo had magical standards that could do one shot magic stuff when they say some incantation. i used to know all of these by heart : "by craft , by art , by nature's wrath , what once was one now fly appart" "the arrow turns, the sword rebels ,may nothing pierce this mortal's shell"
green stuff
Many thanks . I've been revisiting some childhood cartoons lately to see how they've aged ... I somehow remembered it darker : http://www.80scartoons.net/toons/visionaries.html
Malebolgia
That's cool! I have still one of those knight toys at home (the blue one with mace and the hologram of a Unicorn and a dude with a big brain). Good old times!
callumrice
Holograms, thats something you never see on toys these days but in my youth they were all the rage!!
Nathan Caroland
Hah, loved this cartoon when I was a kid. Speaking of toys, anyone remember Go-Bot watches? Was a watch, then you could take it off its band and turn it into a robot? Loved that up until the damn thing got taken away in school. Hinton
I remember those. I also remember the watches that were video games (like Pac-Man). A friend of mine had one of those and we would play Pac-Man in class on his watch.
goblyn13
Many thanks . I've been revisiting some childhood cartoons lately to see how they've aged ... I somehow remembered it darker : http://www.80scartoons.net/toons/visionaries.html The comic book stories were a bit darker while for a children's cartoon, Visionaries was a very dark series, but like all cartoons of the 80's it had to have a moral message as well. goblyn13
The holograms were nifty, but who remembers the heat sensitive stickers on the Battle Beasts?
orkydave
Yep, definatley Visionaries, and GW borrowed heavily from the baddies vehicles when 'they' designed the dark eldar raiders! The theme tune went something like Visionaries, knights of the magical light! Visionaries, with magical powers they fight! I thought the cartoon was lame but the toys did rock! Had loads of them! And the battle Beasts too! Battle beasts battle beasts, they battle for fun! The holograms were basically a game of scissors paper stone on them too. They re-vamped them with a lense in their chest- you held them up to the sun and the symbol shone through the lense. Speaking of holograms in toys, does anyone remember SUPERNATURALS ? They were about the same size a He-man, but only the arms and legs moved. They had characters like knights, vikings and red indians, but you could tahe their front chests off and there was a hologram the full length of the head and torso that showed them as normal, and then as a ghost/zombie/animal. They were cool!
Nathan Caroland
Me, I still have fond memories of the GI Joe bad guys that were basically a bunch of punks/bikers/mad max types that changed colors. Want to say Zordan or something like that was the name of the main guy.
caffeinated
Zartan & the Dreadnoks. The Zartan figure turned green in the sunlight. I still read the comics.
Vytis
The holograms were nifty, but who remembers the heat sensitive stickers on the Battle Beasts? Oh yea..remember them well. How about the glorious, wonderfully destructive Crossbows & Catapults? Who didn't like launching projectiles at your friend (and not their castle, heh)? caffeinated
Hah, loved this cartoon when I was a kid. Speaking of toys, anyone remember Go-Bot watches? Was a watch, then you could take it off its band and turn it into a robot? Loved that up until the damn thing got taken away in school. You sure they weren't the Transformers Watches? They make those again, but I can't remember where I saw them. Here's an old one (maybe knockoff) from Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/VERY-RARE-TRANSFORMER-STYLE-ROBOT-WATCH-NR_W0QQitemZ120146847022QQihZ002QQcategoryZ67728QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem There were also the Kronoform watches: http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0805/ Now they have earphones too: http://www.jbox.com/PRODUCT/MYN125 I'm going to have to get a set. Nathan Caroland
Hah, these are great. Well it was one of those two I'm sure, probably the transformers one, but I could swear mine was a GoBot and was orange. Never did see the headphone ones. That's a fun one. caffeinated
There may have been GoBots ones too. I had a blue one of the top one shown & they also made a red. Headphones are new. They also make a Convoy (Optimus Prime) that is all white with an I-pod dock & speakers for the trailer. Another thing on my list. http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK10694&mode=retail&picture=aux1
Nathan Caroland
Hah, I have like a 100 of these original Transformers in a big box that we've been carrying around for years. Wish I had thought to sell the buggers before they did all the remakes and make a mint off them.
