Monthly Painting Challenge - July

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Here is the thread for July of the monthly painting challenge. Please post your pictures, plans and discussions for the month here.

I'm also copy-pasting a reminder of the rules and the principles of the challenge:

The idea of the challenge is a motivational one. It is simply a friendly painting community---not a competition---that we use to find motivation to finish painting our Malifaux miniatures. You pledge an amount of soulstones that you will be painting each month of the year 2018. If you want to enroll for the challenge, it's too late because you would use too many mulligans.

I'll use the following spreadsheet to keep track of each one's situation: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zYYugrSGk_4GTo8OjHjyfI_ruYWYOSnhy7U2ivbgfZ8/edit?usp=sharing

Some specific rules:

  • Models count for the month in which you finish them.
  • Everyone may fail to make their monthly goal twice and stay in the challenge.
  • You can choose to go down in the pledge hierarchy during the year, but you cannot move up.
  • You may choose to sign up during a later month for the challenge but this means that you'll have to use one or two of the aforementioned mulligans: e.g. if you start in February, one mulligan will already been used; if you start in March, two mulligans will already been used; you cant start in April.
  • Masters count for 15 soulstones
  • Zero cost models count for 5 soulstones
  • Terrain count too. Terrain must be painted and is treated like zero cost models (i.e. count for 5 soulstones). The piece of terrain must be significantly larger than a 50mm marker.

Caedrus, checking in.

For July, my pledge will be a single Guild Guard (of which I have nine in real or proxy form), at 3SS.

I have a ridiculous amount of stretch goals, including finishing my Arcane Effigy:

...and I took a little time to break out the airbrush for the first time in two years, to do some prep work:

...and did some Arcanist airbrushing as well!

I still have a lot to learn!

Have a great time painting in July, everyone!

Caedrus, out.

@Caedrus I already admire your effigy, it's the most Arcane bookpuppet I've seen in many moons.

For me, I'm pledging Yan Lo's box and 3 Gaki as the next batch my friend has commissioned, and Brewie's box as a birthday gift for another friend.

For me, I'm aiming to move ahead with Lazarus (finally) and finish up Marlena with a few touch ups, then maybe get to Serena. If I get especially lucky, may finish up Vintage Haemlin and Shang, and figure out how to get Lobo on on his bike.

Might tweak a few things as GenCon looms closer.

It's hot outside, let's stay in and paint!

I have very limited and slow access to the internet this week as I'm away on holidays so uploading pics is not possible. I have two Adze boxes with me and will post photos when I am able to. They will bring me to a total od 14 soulstones so I'll need to think about something extra to get my declared pledge.

Hello,

I have a good bunch of minis assembled or primed to go after.

2 Bloodwretch (5ss each);

Rail Golem (11ss);

Alt Nekima (13);

Vintage Rasputina (15ss);

Promordial Magic (2).

I'll go after some of these models, trying to collect the 15ss I need for Master level Pledge and hoping to get something more finished. I'll upload first picts when actually I'll put hands over the model I'll choose to begin.

Halfway through the 2018 challenge---you are doing great, Franchute!

This month I am taking the easy way out because I will be going on vacation next week so won't get any actual painting done until mid-month.  I am really excited to finally be tackling one of my new favorite masters though:  Rasputina.  I am going to try to pull off a basing effect that shows her bringing winter to a summer sidewalk.

Apologies, I posted this in the June thread by mistake.

Here is my pledge for July - going to put Guild down for a while and get some Yan Lo reinforcements finished:

Sun Quiang for 8ss

2 Goryo for 14ss

My final and seemingly unfinishable mindless zombie for 2ss

So; 4 models and 24ss. I'm secretly hoping that I'll finish these and get some more at least started this month.

Have a great month everyone.

Well done everyone for last months stupendous efforts, another month of amazing output from all of us :)

This month my pledge is to get my ice dancers finished and if I can manage that I'll try and get some more mercenaries ready too but I'll choose those once the dancers are done.

Since I'll have little time to paint in July, I'll start with two medibots---speed painting sessions:

Then I'll see what else I can do given the time available.

Edit: I've just noticed the newspaper title in Spanish below, so appropriate XD

I did quick jobs on 2 Translucent Will o' Wisps for 6ss so far this month. To keep the translucent effect but bring out some detail I left the wings entirely alone and did a light glaze of color-shift purple over the rest of the models. Other than that it was just a little bit of work on their faces and some quick basing.

Also have the Autumn Knights ready for paint:

Almost posted a WIP of my Femme Fatale entry. You'll have to wait on that.

Greetings All,

Well, July is going to be a crazy busy month for me, so I carved out some time to get started on my Guild Guard so I could meet the monthly target. I also managed to do some blocking in on my fire gamin, because I'm World Champion at starting a miniature and then taking forever to finish them...

The guild guard you see is my colour-scheme prototype (my guild are all brown, red and brass - my Malifaux is a fairly steampunky one). I'm just adoring that massive, massive mold line that I inexplicably missed. Sheesh.

RGdF0xZ.jpgtdL8arK.jpg

...and I have absolutely no idea what I'll get finished this month.

Caedrus, out.
