Start of Activation sequence (Ferdinand)

Erik1978

Question

Had a game today against mighty Arcanists, with the new cool Ferdinant Werewolf guy. :)

At the start of his activation, he can summon the wolf guy into base contact.

What if he starts in Hazardous terrain? Does the "Activating player dictates order of things" come in to play here? Meaning he can summon the wolf before taking damage, or does hazardous terrain always "hit" before a model can do anything "active"?

We thought it made sense he would take damage first but what is RAW?

Step 1 of the Activation is going to be the timing for both the damage from the hazardous terrain and Vogel's Growing Rage ability.

The rules don't contain the additional distinctions required for an event to happen to the model before Step 1.  And do keep in mind that Step 1 has to be used for effects like Regeneration:

Quote

Regeneration +1: When this model Activates, it heals +1 damage.

So, the hazardous terrain damage happens at the same time as Beast Within, and the order is player's choice.

So what you're saying is: He could choose to summon the wolf before taking damage, thus avoiding the damage?

Well you can't take damage if you aren't in existence. The wolf has a pretty big risk of being in the same terrain piece though.

Yes, being sacrificed is enough to stop you taking damage.

Its similar to Fire starter who is able to reckless and then regenerate to heal up, (Or the pigapult reckless and then sacrifice a pig to heal) you pick the order of resoving the effects.
