Center Line & deployment zone choice

hemgath

Question

Hi all,

Don't find in this forum or in the rules an exact rules for this :

1/ Do you must chose the centerline before start the game ? (so you have only 2 choice for the deployment zone)

2/ Or you must fix the centerline after one player chose a side (so you have 4 choice for the deployment zone)

3/ It's completely free... and players choice

find that in an old topic:

--------------------------------
The rulebook page 59 lists the steps for setup.

Step 3 is determine deployment type w/ the centerline.

Step 4 is Strats Schemes.

Step 8 is actualy deployment.
--------------------------------

So if we follow exactly the rules it's choice 1 :
1/ Do you must chose the centerline before start the game ? (so you have only 2 choice for the deployment zone)

Its page 70 in the rules manual, and step 4 is determine deployment. But its not clear how you would determine the zones so I would have thought you could argue that there are 4 deployment zones, decided by the deployment type, and when you deploy in one, the opponent has to deploy in the one opposite (The rules specify its the opposite deployment zone, not the remaining zone, or anything like that.)

(Plus I find the deploy crews flip is powerful already, anthign that helps equalise the level is good)

2/ Or you must fix the centerline after one player chose a side (so you have 4 choice for the deployment zone)

The Step 3 is determine deployment type w/ the centerline.   Defines how the centerline is determined based on the Deployment to the zones.   When you deploy the 1st player that deploys chooses which deployment zone they are deploying in.   The opponent deploys in the opposite zone and the center line is determined by that.

With Standard Deployment, you could technically deploy side ways.

If you want to reference an old topic on the forum, you're better off including a link to the topic as well.

Because when I check page 59 of the M2E Core Rulebook, it has encounter steps but they aren't the steps that you're listing.

On the other hand, according to page 59:

"The players determine what the Deployment Zones for the Encounter are, which includes the location of the Centerline."

On page 64, the detailed rules for that step:

"Deployment Zones

These are the areas in which each Crew may place its models at the start of the game. While players will know what the options for each deployment area are, they will not commit to one just yet. That happens during the Deploy Crews Step. To determine the Deployment Zone, the players flip a single card and consult the following table:

"

Page 59 is a bit misleading, because it sounds like you're determining the centerline but you're not.  The centerline gets finalized when someone commits to a deployment zone (by deploying into it) in step 8.
