Sue Attack Triggers

sue has a trigger on his attack that kills totems and peons if they do not discard two soulstones. 

my question is this i attacked a malifaux child and got the trigger.  Since it is a peon can they send soulstones to negate the effects of the attack?

My follow up question also is using greed against a similar model, would they be able to spend a soulstone if it was a peon/minion?

Any model can discard soulstones if prompted to do so with an action or ability. Only Henchmen and Masters can spend soulstones for the generic effects to add a suit, gain a , etc.

In other words, Greed's "Take what is yours" aura will pretty much always hit peons for damage/discard since they don't really have a way to use soulstones.  They are still capable of discarding soulstones for things though, (like Sue's Trigger or even Greed's The Greed Spreads.)   I would question if discarding soulstones like that counts as "using" them, but I can't think of a scenario where the distinction is important.
