Reva attacking through corpse marker/candle

Erik1978

Question

I had a weird situation at my last tournament, luckily 95 % of the time I can just answer by heart.

Anyway player 1 had a TT model with smoke grenades "Enemy models targeting this model with an attack action from further than 6" away suffer :-fate to the attack flip."

Player 2 had an attacking Reva 10" away but the corpse candle she was using was 4" away.

She measures range and LoS from the corpse candle but I ruled the attacking model was still targeting the TT model from further than 6" away.

Thoughts?

Her ability allows her to measure the range of the attack from the corpse candle but the ability granted by smoke grenades asks you to do a separate measurement to see if she is allowed to target you. That measurement isn't allowed to use the corpse candle but checks range between the actual models in my opinion.

We had a similar question come up recently about Reva attacking into someone using My Little Helper.   In the end my opponent and I decided to call it the way you did also, that Reva was outside of the distance, even though she get's to measure range from the corpse marker.

In theory, the same thing would apply to Rasputina and her Mirror shenanigans, but my search-fu is apparently weak or this is actually the first time anyone has had this question.

If I was playing that game, from a thematic point of view, I would say she is looking from where she is and using the corpse candle/marker (whatever) as a conduit.  In the fluff, can she see through the corpse candles eyes?  If she cannot, then I would say it would stay at a negative.  If she can, then fine, its a straight flip.  I would refer to my knowledge of the character...and I don't particularly like Reva so know nothing about her...

Otherwise, both sides of that argument have merit, and I doubt you will get a clear answer.
