Monthly Painting Challenge 2017 -- April

@wizuriel:  Great start on the news crew.  The master (forget name now) looks pretty darn happy about something taking place, and that's cool.  If you want to make her expression less so, I would think about narrowing the whites of the eyes a bit with a thin stroke of paint over the white on the top and bottom of the eye.  No easy task, I admit, but I suspect it would quickly change the whole vibe of the model.

I think I will try that on Phiona. I don't mind Nellie looking happy as I think it fits her, but the shocked happy expression on Phiona looks off to me. Also need to rethink her knee pads.

Not too sure what to do with the other 2 journalists.

Finished model number two of my three for April.  I must admit, I did not have the patience to put much work into the gears and parts in the arm coming out of the cephalothorax abdomen.  There are several colors other than metalic bronze, but my photography skills are not up to the task of showing them.

some WIP of my journalists. Not overly happy with them so far :(

I'm consistently surprised by how displeased I can be with a model in the early stages and how pleased I can be with it by the time I'm done.

Keep up the good work and keep the faith.

Final product! (Well, a few details can always be cleaned up, but I'd already put the paint away before heading to work)

Lucius (15ss), The Scribe (2ss), Dashel (9ss), Lawyers x2 (12ss), Guild Guard x2 (8ss), Earl Burns (3ss), and the Malifaux Child as Edward from Cowboy Bebop (2ss) for a grand total of 51ss for this month.

So many options with his model I had trouble deciding what to do.

Next month: dipping my toe into my Outcast backlog. For now, rewarding this month's work with painting Leman Russ.

Okay, so. I don't think I'll be doing anything more this month - so a fair whack of models will be sitting unpainted until we move, or at least find a place and get done putting stuff in storage. It's POSSIBLE that tonight or Thursday will have enough downtime for me to do Von Schill and a few other pieces, but for right now I'm calling it done until further notice.

However, that still means I've finished Freikorpsman x2 (10), Specialist (8), Librarian (7), Trapper (6), Oiran (5), Lust (8), Latigo Pistoleros x3 (15), Silent One (6), Slop Haulers x2 (10), Gluttony (8), Waldgeist (6), Stitched Together x3 (18), Primordial Magic (2), for a total of 109 Soulstones.

Anyway, here's the finished models - the previous pictures had them unbased, and I NEVER feel that a model is done until it's had its base done.

The customer insisted that the bases use little bits of geode to denote soulstones - only problem is that they're slightly water soluble, which I didn't notice until after the glue had set. He doesn't mind, is what he said - and I can't exactly prerinse the pieces because they're so small!

I angled Lust up to get better lighting on her face, and for some reason the light glinted off her eyeshadow instead, looking like a dot of white on her eyelid. Overall, I don't hate it, but I do think she's hardly the sexiest model that Malifaux has.

In lieu of buying expensive swamp grass from the one source I could find, a train terrain maker in Germany, I grabbed yellow paint bristles and used them. It worked here well enough, but not so much...

....here, where the static water convected UP the bristles in a massive clump. Also had to replace one of the bucket strands with a piece of wire, and just realized that I forgot to paint it white. Ugh. Always something.

Ah! Primordial Magic! I did an OSL on the base! Got to take a new picture of that... *sigh*

Here are my models for April:

Scorpius (6 SS) + Ice Dancer (6 SS) + Large Arachnid (6 SS) = 18 SS

I will be off the forums for a week starting this weekend.  I need to melt into the woods to set up experiments for the summer.  "Bwahahahahaha!"  "No seriously, Joss, stop that.  I do the maniacal laughing around here."

Before I head out I will update the tracking sheet and post the May thread a day or two early.

Well after a rather rough month of March I have finished The Guild Marshals, 3 Death Marshals (6 SS each) and The Judge (9 SS) for a total of 27 SS.

I wanted to add more pictures, however I first need to figure out how to increase my allowable attachment size.  grrr.

Love the old school metal models! This was the first Malifaux crew I painted when I first got into the game.

As for more pictures, I ran into that issue too. If you create a gallery here on the forums, then you can add the pictures in posts using the URL from the gallery.

I really don't remember if I posted unpainted pics, but I've updated my album with what I think are the best models I painted this month. I did a few more, but I really like these so I want to show them off.

I didn't have nearly as much hobby time as last month and May is likely to be even more limited, but I still kept my 30 goal, tried some different techniques, and most importantly, had a lot of fun doing it. I feel like I definitely improved, a lot of people have suggested I use some washes too or something to deepen the shadow areas but I just don't like the way that looks like 90% of the time, so I'm probably not going to try it anytime soon.

Wendigo 3

Snowstorm 11

Rasputina 15

Sandeep 15

Kudra 7

Banasuva 8

Soulstone Miner 6

edit: I forgot to shout out @KrazyIvan, his Tara crew last month gave me inspiration for my Sandeep (aka I stole his idea)
