RMK
I am wondering if there is a gameplay reason that we could not cut the models off the plug bases and model them on 80mm or 120mm dioramas (as a fire team). We could use wound trackers to mark remaining wounds, couldn't we?
Lucidicide
Yeah, if you wanted to. It'd be up to the TO if it was tournament legal (as it's less easy to see current damage on a squad).
RMK
Gotcha: the Board state argument. Certainly a tournament pack ala gaining grounds would cover what would be allowed. Personally plug bases limit what I normally do for basing, but if we can't play with our toys in tournaments...
Lucidicide
Well, I hope to have the tournament pack done before release, so... You have some time
JDAntoine
@RMK honest question, what stops you from creating the diorama with plug bases? From the getgo this was my own plan. The beauty of 30 mm stuff is that you can find pipes that diameter which might assist you in your creative journey.
RMK
Adjuncts are the reason why one would not want to do this from a gameplay standpoint. As far as scenic basing with plugs: it's possible just looks worse.
Lucidicide
That's fair enough, hadn't really thought of it. All (current) Adjuncts are 30mm plugs only, so your bigger things wouldn't be affected.
solkan
I think the concern for removable pieces is that you have to design the base scenery to take it into consideration. I think there's a Kings of War style "You can do elaborate fixed dioramas" vs. WHFB "each model is a wound counter" argument. But if you don't have the removable models, you'd pretty much need an equally visible way of marking damage, at least highly visible (and consistent) "There's a dead model" markers. It doesn't seem like marking damage on the cards would be good enough. Are there any cases where it's going to matter which of the plugs on a fireteam have died? I can't agree, it only possible requires a more creative thinking process. Like hiding seems in model/miniature design you can simply do the same in diorama design if you really want to. My plans as such are a lot of rubble stacked upon each other, which easily lends itself to be cut in three parts so this way you can also easily remove pieces from the Fireteam. The only reason for me to continue with plugs on fireteams is that it allows me to mix up the diorama aswell. As soon as I have the product I'll try to share something without an issue. Here an example of something I've done in the past and I guess I should just open up a topic for my crew stuff aswell... (30mm base) So as always, the only creative limitation your working with is a limitation you put there yourself.
Lucidicide
The only time it matters which plug has died is in the case of: 1) You like the look of one of the models more :-P or 2) You use an Adjunct and it died, so that model needs to be removed.
retnab
Speaking of, when an Adjunct's Fireteam gets attacked when do you decide when the Adjunct is removed? Can you leave it til its the last model on the base or does it have to go earlier (and I assume it can't be Reinforced back?)?
Adran
According to Aaron in update 14 comments but Adjuncts can be Reinforced like normal models so you can bring it back if it dies.
Parker Barrows
If left to the TO, I think I will judge on a case by case basis on whether I'd allow unremoveable bases. Depends on how easy it would be for your opponent to tell the damage. Just my two cents.
Akai
I actually like the large bases to be for display and storage of the units. Not sure how it aesthetically look when playing on a game mat/board. Since it does not seem important the position of the models within the larger bases, I am thinking of using 80, 100, 120 mm "rings" for actual gaming. RMK
Akai that's interesting. Might be an option!
Lucidicide
The location on the larger base is not important
