Mortarion
I have finally painted some Witchling thralls. It will be interesting to try these out. To avoid having them looking like regular convicts I added some magical symbols tattooed on them. The idea is some kind of wards that help to keep their magical powers in check. I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.
(Sarcasm)
The freehand on the thralls is very impressive. I've been pondering adding some runes to my Thralls as well. Do you have any tips after doing these guys?

Use a good brush. I have at 000 brush specifically for these kind of things which I never use for anything else. You can use larger brushes as long as the tip is good. In fact, some people prefer larger brushes, since they help with tip number 2. 2. Don't have too much paint on the brush. Especially with smaller burshes, the paint tends to gather in a blob just at the tip, so you need to get rid of excess paint before painting. This means you will have to get fresh paint and clean your brush quite often, but it's worth it. 3. Make sure you are rested and focused while painting. At least for me, some days are just not detail days... 4. Have a good idea of what you want to paint before you start. Perhaps try it out on paper to see if the concept works. 2
Mortarion
I have been painting some cheap models lately. First up the remaining two Marionettes for Collodi: And then some Guild guard that I started working on a long time ago but that I have never gotten around to finish until now. The recent errata made me a bit more motivated. The are all built from the Through the Breach male multipart kit. The last one of them (the one with the sword) turned out more like a leader than I originally imagined, so I might have to use him as a sergeant.
Mortarion
I finally finished a Watcher. This one has been on my to-do list for quite some time, but I never felt inspired to start with it because I didn't know what to do with the horrible sculpt. Considering the normally excellent quality of Malifaux models I am surprised how this one got past quality control. For those of you unfamiliar with the model it tries to do some kind of perspective with the wings som that one wing is closer to the camera then the other and therefore much, much larger. Of course, this does not work on a 3d model and just looks strange. I considered replacing the wings with something else, but in the end I decided to cut away a large portion of the giant wing and resculpt the lost detail. It turned out OK I think. I used the same solour scheme as the rest of my Guild constructs. It might not be super stealthy, but sometimes I guess that the Guild want the people that they are watching to know that they are being watched...
Ludvig
Looking good as always! I can't even make out which wing you sculpted so I'd say you did very well on that part!

Mortarion
Thank you! Some new models done. First Santiago Ortega. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. As Santiago is not directly employed by the Guild I tried some different things with his clothes to give him a more civilian look. And Allison Dade. Again, I tried to make her look more civilian and used lots of natural and muted colours.
Mortarion
More models! And they have not all been painted since friday. I have been working on different models simultaneously and the previous ones hade been ready for some days without me taking a picture. First up, a Terracotta warrior. This one almost feels like cheating since it was painted in just a few minutes. The base took longer then the actual model. But it's supposed to look like a stone statue, so... And then... Hoffman. This one took longer. But I'm quite happy with the result. I think his harness looks cool in my standard Guild construct colour scheme. And finally a second executioner. This one has been lying on my hobby bench unassembled for quite some time. But then I got this wierd idea of trying a list with two executioners, so I built and painted it. And it also feels good to finish stuff that has been lying around for a while. He loves his job! His latest "client" does not like it!
Mortarion
More models done! First up the Mechanical attendant to complete my Hoffman crew. I quite like the model, but I doubt it will se that much time on the table as the rules seem pretty uninteresting. And then the most stylish duo in Malifaux - Graves and Tannen! For some strange reason I started thinking of a 90:s style sitcom about Graves and Tannen having to share an appartment above the Honeypot Casino while painting them. It even got so far as to the show getting it's own theme song. Mr. Graves Mr. Tannen
Mortarion
A pathfinder that has been standing half finished on my painting table for a while. I went with mostly muted, natural colours but gave him blue pants to give him some kind of connection with the rest of my Guild models.
Mortarion
Another model done! This time it's Alt Barbaros. While I don't really like the original Barbaros model, the alt version is so cool! In the illustration of him, he's wearing plain metal armour, which suits his gladiator background. But I wanted a more regal look for him. Like he is the personal champion of Lilith, or at least commanding her armies. I think it turned out pretty good. On the base I did a more broken up version of my normal cobble stones and added a vine creeping up from beneth the stones. Like nature is reclaiming the area. I think I will continue this on future Nephilim as well.
Mortarion
New models! First up is a model that everyone who plays Neverborn must have. No, not Nekima. I am not talking about a models that is so good that everyone must have it. I am talking about a model that is so cool that everyone must have it. TEDDY!! I love this model. It also must be one of the most iconic Malifaux models. Some time ago, I was explaining what Malifaux was to a person at my gaming club who didn't know what it was. I started talking about the setting, and suddenly he went "Wait, is this the game with the giant teddybear?". And to complement Teddy... Baby Kade. Another cool model. Unfortunately, it is kind of hard to get good pictures of it because it is so small. My painting style is not really meant for extreme closeups. 6
lusciousmccabe
A lot of really nice paintjobs here. I think the Stitched Together are my personal favourite. I love the models and you've done a great job painting them. Particularly enjoy how they all look unique but the individual colours tie them into your overall puppet colourscheme.

Mortarion
I have finally painted another model! The Widow Weaver. This model was really hard to get a hold of since it was out of stock everywhere for about six months. But now I finally got it. I used the same green and purple colours as the rest of my Neverborn. I originally intended to paint her skin black, but it looked a bit boring, so I used the same light purple as my Nephilim skin, which also looks like it does on the illustration for Widow Weaver. And it turned out well I think. I also made some Web markers. Not much to say about them. Quite simple, but better than empty bases...
Mortarion
Some new models done. First out, Iggy. I thought a bit about the colour of the flames on this one. Green flames would propably fit better with my neverborn, but since Iggy's thing is that he starts fires it made more sense to paint them like regular flames and not some kind of magical energy. And some Sorrows. I went through quite a lot of colour schemes in my head for them before deciding on this one. I wanted to incorporate both green and purple to fit with the rest of my Neverborn and add some contrast. And this seemed like the best way of doing it. So, Iggy and Sorrows... I wonder which master this may lead up to...
Mortarion
New models! First up another witchling handler. After the price decrease I started thinking about actually fielding two of them in the same list, so I painted up the second one I have had lying around for a long time. And the Alt Guard sergeant. I added a bit more fabric to her top, as it is really low cut on the original model. Showing that amount of cleavage might work on a Belle or Showgirl, but it looks really out of place on a Guild guard model in my opinion.
Nikodemus
Yeah, Wyrd seems to like their plastic boobies. Looking good on the painting front😎
Mortarion
Thank you. I actually think that Wyrd overall make quite good female models. Or at least 2nd ed and forward. Most have sensible clothes and the ones in "sexy" outfits at least have some reason for it (belles, showgirls, and so on). But there are a few models where the choise of clothing is just strange.
Lucius Mattheson
It seems a strange thing to praise, perhaps, but I think very highly of the heavy verdigris and thickly soot and dirt-clotted glass of the oil lamp in Mr. Graves' diorama-base. Incidentally, the ''commedia dell'arte'' or Venetian Guild Lawyer (your avatar) is wonderful. I think that more might sometimes be made of the quasi-eighteenth century themes, the rather grotesque ''aristocracy'' of Malifaux: your miniature is a splendid example of that tendency. It emphasises the long, almost unnaturally long fingers and long, talon-like pointed nails, also seen in the older art of Lucius. Absolutely splendid.
Mortarion
Thank you! And i really hope that there will be more models in the style of the Lawyers and Lucius in the future.

Mortarion
Some new models done. Insidious madness! I love these models! When first looking at them I thought that they lookd pretty cool. But it was first after putting them together and painting them that I really became aware of how well designed they were. I've seen other companies attempt the "madness taken physical form" thing but none succeeded as well as these. And they were some of the few models which I actually thought were fun to put together. They were, to use and overused expression from digital gaming, "the Dark Souls of modelling". They were challenging but fair. Each piece only fit in one place and fit perfectly, but where that place was certainly wasn't obvious. Almost like a 3d puzzle. With the colours I went away from my normal purple and green Neverborn colours. I wanted lots of colours and transitions between them. They are madness!! But to get something holding them together I painted them all the same way. "Can I play with madness?" "Now that they are painted, you can."
