We are pleased to announce that Gaining Grounds 2016 is now available!

If you are unfamiliar with Gaining Grounds, it is Wyrd's main organized tournament play format, and Gaining Grounds 2016 has been the result of a lot of work from the design team and testing from the community. I think we have something special for you this year. So how is Gaining Grounds 2016 different?

  • There are now rules for tracking included in the format. This means there is now a guideline for tracking damage, markers, and conditions.
  • We are continuing to use the Strategies from the 2015 Gaining Grounds.
  • There is a new Scheme Pool.

The new Scheme Pool is the most exciting thing about this document. While there are some of the Schemes you know and love, some of the older Schemes have been revised or retired. We hope that these Schemes will provide new and veteran players with exciting new challenges in their games of Malifaux.

You can download the printer friendly version attached to this post, or you can download all of our organized play documents here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/s/Organized-Play-Formats-17km.zip

Finally, we are also happy to announce that you can purchase a Gaining Grounds 2016 Strategy & Scheme Deck from Wargame Vault's print-on-demand service. This new offering will make it easier to keep track of these new Schemes during your games, allowing you to focus on the Encounter at hand. To purchase this deck, go here: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/171684/Gaining-Grounds-2016-Strategy-and-Scheme-Deck. Below is an image of a card from the deck.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting competitive year in 2016!

The great thing about free rules though is you don't have to pay for them. :)

Come on people we just got nineteen new schemes, lets not get caught up in logistics and enjoy the awesomeness of that for a minute. :D

But it still stings paying such a premium, if you want to have physical ones. Not lamenting the rules, but throw your overseas players a bone D:.

EDIT: With the rules coming soon translated, will those be translated as well... not for my sake -- but maybe for new interested players?

For the most part the new schemes look great.

the most commonly seen schemes seem to have gotten tougher (plant explosives l, vendetta I'm looking at you) and the hardest ones a little easier (bodyguard, outflank)

one that i'm not keen on is because I'm a gremlin player and already occupy their turf seems far too easy to score 3 points turn 1 with the pigapult and 3 bayou gremlins late turn one.

So glad you did this! The standard schemes and strategies deck is so handy, with all the new schemes this is going to be invaluable!
