Does this sound like good idea for purchasing order?

It appears my previous post was eaten by a grue or else I would have just replied to that.

I have been mulling over what to get to start playing malifaux with my friends there are way to many factions I am interested in, unfortuantely I am currently poor and on a budget.

I think I narrowed it down.

I narrowed it down to Lucius, Molly and Zoraida.

My plan so far is to buy the Zoraida set then when I can get some waldgeists and a doppleganger.

Then get the lucius set and more mimics such as beckoners(which hopefully go well with zoraida as well) then maybe a few more guild things such as riflemen (and maybe the freikorp trapper cause I like him)

Hopefully this will give me more practice with befoer getting a harder master like lucius and allow me to run slightly more nb heavy or guild heavy whichever I prefer.

and finally Molly I will probably wait till I have more expendable funds so that I can more properly make a fluffy Molly army with lots of belles doxies, punk zombies crooligans and maybe some rogue necromancies for fun.

Does this sound like a good order?

I am not as worried about competitive I prefer to be a bit more fluffyish....

yea I know it is probably stupid asking this but seriously the wiki can be confusing when I barely understand the terminology XD.

The way you have it set up there you're going to end up buying models from three different factions with no crossover. That gets expensive fast.

Far better to pick a single faction you like the look of, and then only play masters from that faction. For example if you decided Resurrectionists were your thing you'd buy the Molly box, and then perhaps the Seamus box which gives you Madam Sybelle and Belles which work with Molly, and then you might buy the MacMourning box for a flesh construct and nurses who can also be used with Molly. In addition, if you play a fixed faction game or tournament you have a selection of masters to work with rather than trying to work only with one.

Resurrectionist Masters in boxes are, off the top of my head

Molly

Kirai

Seamus

Nicodem

McMourning (dual faction Guild, but his box works with Resurrectionists)

Tara (although none of her box contents are really useable in general Resurrectionist so you might skip her)

Yan Lo (although also dual faction, his box can be used in Resurrectionists)

Lucius is possibly the most stylish Master in the game. He is definitely one of the most difficult for beginners. His crew box in no way suffices to play him. His activations are complicated to plan and difficult to pull off. Some of the models he desperately wants (e.g. Hounds and Wardens) aren't out yet. He is a fun choice for third Master (of one of his factions, mind), but not a good one for beginners.

My opinion. Although some players (you know who you are) even think he is one of the worst Masters in the game.

If you want to play him in Neverborn, the Lynch box is the box you should look at. Illuminated are good enough to make even Lucius shine with just his box set.

Neverborn Lucius is a lot better than Guild Lucius. Zoraida and Lucius could have some nice crossover I think. Getting a second faction is gonna be pricey so I would wait with Molly.

I would recommend following with the Lynch box (for Illuminated) and then investing towards mimics like Beckoners, Tannen and Graves if you like that theme. Both Lucius and Zoraida work well with these.

You could also work more towards a swampfiend theme since both Lucius and Zoraida can play with these.

It's down to aestethical choice I'd say but be prepared for fighting what seems like uphill sometimes.

In any case I would be careful about tryibg to play him as guild since it leads to buying lots of models fast, one box of cool guardsmen can however be nice to mix things up if you have cash. I would say Austringers, Riflemen and Pathfinders all add something. Freikorp trappers are also awesome but can't be bought outside of von Schills box unless I am mistaken.

You can still find the metal Trapper around sometimes, I think Cool Mini or Not might still have one for sale, a couple of Wardens too (at $35 each) but you're right, single blister Trappers are not easy to come by. In some ways it's easier to buy two Von Schill's boxes for the duplicate models, but that gets expensive too.

In regards to Zoraida, she, along with Leveticus and Marcus, are probably the most expensive Masters to build a complete list with because their hiring pools are cross faction and quite vast. I wouldn't recommend her for anyone on a budget (and I say that as someone who has a fair selection of models to go with Leveticus). In that respect Molly is also a cheaper option than Zoraida, and as said Lucius has few of the models he actually needs available at the moment, and being dual faction Guild and Neverborn he again can have a very large hiring pool. Molly is a summoner of course, so it's helpful to have a few horror or spirit models (depending on which flavour of Molly you prefer) to summon. I don't know if she's as effective as Nicodem, I heard of one case where a Nicodem player in a 50SS game managed to summon another 42SS worth of models by the game end, but she has her own style which can be extremely effective.

As an example of a cheapish faction to get into, Von Schill in Outcasts comes with most of the Freikorps models you'll use, and the other Freikorps he can take are the Strongarm Suit, Hannah, Lazarus, and in third wave Anna Lovelace who has to be hired as a mercenary, but is a summoning Resurrectionist (I think she summons Mindless Zombies and Gaki, but I'd have to check) who is also Freikorps. If you want duplicate Librarians, Trappers and Specialists you can always buy two boxes of Von Schill. Basically two boxes of the Hired Guns, and four individual boxes (plus maybe a box each of Lovelace's summons), and you're good to go. I don't know that you can say they're the best at any one thing, but they're good at pretty much everything. I think people have described them as the Outcast Guildlike faction.

If you only want a couple of theme crews you don't need to buy every model in Zoraidas hiring pool so she doesn't have to be expensive. Lucius does great with only neverborn minions so no need to complicate things there either. If I understood you correctly Sharyar you are interested in owning models you like the look of more than einning games?

If you have Lynch, Zoraida and Lucius you have nice options for scheming and killing as well as solid minions for Lucius. Add Beckoners who make the Illinated truly terrifying as well as adding pushes, damaging cast attacks and some scheme control. The thing missing would probably be some Terror Tots or Gupps for cheap activations. I think that list of models could sustain you for quite a while and could handle most schemes and strats.

As an aside, Zoraida gets along with anyone you want to add in her crew. Her ability to Obey (use one of her actions to control another model to do something) gives her a high degree of flexibility and allows you to get more out of models in your crew. And yes, Beckoners would work well with her, or any Neverborn crew/master.

Yea that sounds about right. Plus right now there are only 4 other people playing n my area hopefully we can get more. But I tend to go very theme or fluff heavy and I prefer very manipulative armies, I have a feeling molly isn't sneaky and manipulative but  so far she is the only resserectionist whose fluff I kind of like. lol

Lucius and Zoraida feel manipulative and sneaky and I do kind of like their theme.

For lucius I kind of wanted to rely more on surprisingly loyal minions then focusing on a specific faction.

Zoraida I was more going to probably play somewhat straight with swampfiends and maybe add beckoners and such more for comedic effect, "hey what is that sexy woman doing in a swam....omg a fish man!"
