Jack Daw Project

I am inching towards a JD return. With the CR 7 looking quite interesting, I got a couple of questions about the band.

If the CR7 would be slotted into tiers, how would they rank up?

Do they work well with Daw?

Is the box worth its quite hefty price tag?

I was looking at this box myself few times as I wanted to expand my Jack's crew. Well in my case it is more difficult as I'm not big fan of the whole concept of the band but I came up to certain conclusion anyway. I think I would use maybe 2-3 models from this box max (Envy, Lust and maybe Wrath) so IMO it is better to look for general Outcast models who would fill Jack's crew nicely (and who would be Tormented with Guilty anyway) than to invest in CR7 box. But this is my personal opinion only.

My gut says more or less the same. I like Envy and Lust (for a bunch of crews besides JD) the most, Greed being a close third; mainly because of that juicy walk 6" together with the SS-discard. The others seems to be good but not that great to me. Anyway, why do you like Wrath?

First question, does Jack play well with any of the starter set models? I'm thinking about a a project to make a Tormented Asylum theme and trying to incorporate Grimwell or Heartsbane with Nurses and Papa Loco or something. Mostly just for fun/a painting project, but I'm curious how hard I'd be handicapping myself for the cost of using them as mercs (or the opportunity cost of not using better models in Outcasts).

Second question, if you were going to buy 2-3 additional (non-Master) boxes to run with Jack, what would they be?

Nurses

Hanged

Crossroads Seven

Jaakuna Abume

A beater like Bishop, Killjoy, Desolation Engine, Strongarm Suit or Taelor are also good.

Lazarus allows you to have Jack blasting away with a grenade launcher, and that has to be good.

Sensible beatstick for 8 points who can be pushed around and heals himself. Sometimes I need this kind of model for less than standard Outcast 10 point bracket ;)

Also Jack have many ways to attack enemy hand, so Horror duel on Wrath is also nice :)

Looking at the new upgrade from the new book, it gives +1 dmg against non master models with upgrades. Charge, slap on Firing Squad, second attack has an effective profile of 6/7/8. He's pretty much hitting like Howard Langston against anything that isn't a master.

seems like it could be a hilarious surprise.

i mean, this upgrade obviously goes somewhere n the crew.

It could go pretty well on Wrath. Jack Daw can move alongside Wrath, place his upgrades on various foes, then when Wrath activates he can push out of engagement and charge back in after using one of his 0s for great damage. It could also help models like Sloth that don't do much damage but can tarpit enemy enforcers punish foes in show of force games, plus punish anyone jack curses!

Generally it seems like its best for Crossroads Seven models, though i can also imagine taking it on Bishop.

Had friendly game. Used two upgrades in JD crew:

- Sue gad return fire
- Bishop had The bigger they are

It was against Sommer and gremlin gun line. I really like upgrades.

Mostly no one attacked Sue, low DF / WD gremlins were scared. At start of second turn one of bayou attacked Sue, I cheated crow in and killed him :) It's great upgrade, I think it will shine against summoners who tend to make many attacks and don't have cards to cheat so it will be easier to have crow :)

Bishop was even bigger beast, It gave him one more dmg against every model he attacked. Also as @Fog it's great combo with Firing Injustice

Can't wait to use new undead bandits, also want to check if they can have nice combo with Crooked Man and Gluttony (scheme markers dropping and taking dmg)

It is great with Jack as he can spread Curce upgrades on enemy model which will suffer even more by having it attached on. And Dead Outlaws will be deadly to enemy models with those upgrades as well.

The Bigger They Are... Actually makes Daw's own damage potential quite impressive if it where to be attached on himself. The ranged attack on second and third hits after attaching Firing Squad be 3/5/6, and the :meleecan slash for 4/5/6 on the second and third hits and snatch the upgrade back for an additional 2 damage. Granted, you cannot hunt masters with it, but it certainly makes Daw pretty good at dealing with everything else.

Aye. Taelor, Johan and Strongarm are prime 3 candidates to choose for this upgrade.

I would say I think Taelor is the strongest.  I find that Johan already is a huge target in my Daw crew (they want to make sure the nurse's heal is not so great) and he often needs oathkeeper to be back (read safe) for a few turns then fly up around turn 3.  Strongarm is better but again, when I take him I often want that oathkeeper, or scout the field.  Also as he CAN shoot, and therefore bigger they are does not always help.  Finally, Taelor, can carry oathkeeper, use those stones, and is at least as hard to kill as the others.

Also, anyone who understands rules please see my bigger they are and Hannah question in the rules section.

Have anyone used Sloth in JD crews? He is quite easy to kill (for his cost), but his CA (paralyze or 2 dmg + slow) attack looks nice. Also it can be used by JD and Hannah. His 0 AP action is bad for me ( give model slow and heal 3 dmg), but maybe i am missing something in it?

There are many cases in which having a model on the field is more important than it having AP. That 3 HP lets something stay on the field to place a scheme marker or score turf war or keep engaging a key model. Sloth can also use it on himself, which makes him quite hard to remove. Don't forget Jack can take Sloth and the Freikorps Specialist or Johan to remove that slow fromt he thing you've healed.

Wrath provides damage that Jack doesn't always have. Lust takes his mobility into overdrive and she synergizes with Envy who can lay down blasts after Monty, JD or Lust put enemies together. If your crew is very aggressive Gluttony can put out his debuff whilst Jack uses Last Whisper to place scheme markers when things die for damage and pushes.

Wrath is easy to use, charge, then push 3'' when activates again (with JD upgrade), charge again. Wrath can heal, has nice DF and horror duel at top.
Greed and Envy are also nice (envy gives focus and blasts), Greed has nice aura + nice CA.

All other models also can be great, but, for me, too many depends on your schemes, strategy, tactics, enemy etc.
