Von Schill... I Can't Seem To Get It.

Von Schill is probably my most played master thus far and that being said I think mid ground or defensive schemes suit him best. My favourite part about him is the fact he gives absolutely zero concerns about what the opponent wants to do. It is insanely easy to build a von schill crew to counter pretty much anything. And making Hannah Take the Shirt off is hilarious!

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I keep hearing people say this all the time but as of yet no-one has really given any sound info on this to actually be true or any examples. :) Because I disagree with this. I don't think Von Schill is insanely easy to build a counter for pretty much anything. He can counter Sonnia and Neverborn to some extent. Apart from that, I don't understand this very common statement about Von Schill. 

What does he actually counter and how? And how you do build a countering crew with him? Because here's some of my experiences with Schill:

  1. If he gets in melee the opponent starts usually laughing at what he can do. 2 min damage most of the time unless you are focusing. 
  2. Armor ignore on the opposite side and Von Schill starts crying.
  3. Blasts on the opposing side and Von Schill crew is okay, the one model still takes the damage though, but the rest won't.
  4. Black Blood etc on the other side and Von Schill will spare 1 wound per attack. Though Black Blood can be played around quite efficiently without wearing the Freikorps suit.

There are good models in the Schill crew, namely Trappers, Strongarm and Hannah. But those models can be taken with anyone and actually many of the masters make better use out of them than Von Schill does.

I played Von Schill once but I think he can actually be very good at hunting down enemy scheme runners and other 'weaker' models as he is quite mobile and has Finish the Cur action to make sure he will put down the enemy model to the ground with one activation.

 

See that to me sounds like a huge weakness. "He can hunt down scheme runners" is pretty much saying "he can take on the smallest minions" in my mind. :D

I think he is a very good counter to anything as long as the Korps gets to stick together. Meaning that they don't always have to be within range of Schill aura, but within walking distance is preferable (save the Strongarm Suit). Otherwise they are pretty easy to pick a part one by one.

Point 2. I don't think that is really the case Zfiend, if you run him with Survivalist and The Shirt Comes Off. Then he can wrestle with most opponents a fair bit, and df 6 is decent against most while wp 7 is great.

Point 3. If that model isn't killed, it will be healed to close full health.

Point 1. And if you are Focusing... he can slit you up for 6-8 damage. Piece that together with a minimum 2, and situationally Finish the Cur for another 2, that is 8-12 damage; ignoring Armor. He can also get to models from quite far away too.

The Cracked Trigger is also bloody lovely and can make taking down tough characters so much easier if you can get a few hits through.  Agree with the point about armour as the Freikorps are Armour+1 which is a nice bonus but hardly rely on it and there's not *that* much stuff that ignores armour in the game.

Even so it doesn't stop VS being boring as hell to play (IMHO) which is the reason I struggle to reach for him in games.

Also, heals with models that have Hard to Kill are very powerful.  Von Schill's bubble gives you all the perks of Hard to Kill without calling it that, so it isn't trumped by things like Leveticus.  Being able to provide this effect to a Librarian or two, which are already one of the best on-demand healers in the game, is very solid indeed.

aura of improved hard to kill for killy opponents? check.

same aura also increases local WP for shenanigans? check.

ML ignores armor, can trigger to reduce DF, Seeker ignores Hard to Wound + has finish the cur which is a huge toolbox ability on a cast 4 i think?

Freikorp suit ignores armor blast and pulse damage? check.

Freikorp totem provides heal, poison & burn removal, scrap and corpse token removal? check.

Specialist for slow/paralysis removal and scheme marker removal... librarian for steady heals and a CA attack with furious casting optional.

Schill can tag team very well with the strong arm suit to go scheme hunting as you can charge from engagement to engagement to kill who you need to.
