  1. So, i've been playing a few games agaisn't my friend and I noticed something with the "Terrifying (X)" ability. Why is it not limited to "Once per activation"? Don't get me wrong, I know there is Ruthless, I know there is some form of prevention, but it makes it feel like "To make it fair, use an ability that ignores it completly". My problem with it, is how frustrating it is to play agaisn't. even on average WP stats (5), you'll need 6+ simply to attempt you action, even if you get it, you still need to succeed for you other action. Many similar abilities, like Manipulative, Protection (X) have some sort of limitations, either once per activation, requires a sort of payment (Cards or Token) or simply gives you a -Flip. All are very usefull defenses, but no way near the level of defense Terrifying gives, for free. I might be bias, I always hated Hard CC (I hate Blue/White control decks with a burning passion), but I do believe some mild limitation might help the ability feel less frustrating to play agaisn't. Simply adding "Once Per activation" would be perfect IMO. You get a nice flip on your first action? Great for you, Terrifying is off for the rest of the Activation. You are unlucky and don't have a good hand? Well, you lost 1 action, but at least you don't need to worry about it for now. P.S.: I never seen Ruthless being as impactfull versus Manipulative, so I'm deducing it was mostly to counter Terrifying.
  2. Just checking on how targeting works when multiple targeting-affecting effects can apply. Under Resolving Actions, (page 23 of the digital rulebook as of 2019/11/05) Targeting is step 3. Do all effects which might change or affect the targeting occur during this phase, or only on the initial target? Are these examples correct? Example 1: Asami Tanaka is targeted by an attack from an enemy Guard Patrol, and uses Protected(Oni) to change the target to Ama No Zako who is within 2". The attacking Guard Patrol now has to make a Terrifying(11) duel to successfully continue with the attack. If successful, the Guard Patrol continues to step 4 against Ama No Zako. Example 2: Asami Tanaka is targeted by an attack from an enemy Guard Patrol, and uses Protected(Oni) to change the target to Amanjaku who is within 2" Amanjaku has not activated this turn and is now being targeted by an attack. The attack will suffer due to manipulative. The Guard Patrol continues to step 4 and suffers on the attack against Amanjaku. Example 3: Asami Tanaka is targeted by an attack from an enemy Guard Patrol, and uses Protected(Oni) to change the target to Amanjaku who is within 2" A Samurai with the Silent Protector upgrade is within 2" of Amanjaku, and uses Take the Hit to become the target of the attack. If successful, the Guard Patrol continues to step 4 and resolves his attack against the Samurai. Bonus question: Protected(X) specifies ignoring Range, LoS and targeting restrictions. Cover/concealment should apply as normal?
  3. Hello all, I feel a little dense like I am missing something, I am trying to look up the rules for abilities and I can not seem to locate them in the pdf. 1) Does an attacking model need to pass a terrifying test each time they target a terrifying model in the same activation? 2) When a model has both shielded and armored and then suffers damage, which order do those abilities resolve? ex. a model with both has 4 damage as a result of a duel, if it reduces the damage by Armor(2) it can then use it's Shielded(2) to reduce the damage to 0. However, if these resolve in the opposite order the damage reduction would be Shielded(2) and Armor(1) leaving one point of damage on the model because Shielded can reduce damage to 0 but Armored can not. I haven't had time to read the rules cover to cover yet so that may be my problem, but can someone tell me are things like this addressed in the rules?
  4. Are models with Terrifying required to roll against enemies with Terrifying? For example Teddy wants to attack Lord Chompy does Teddy still have to make the TN roll to attack since they both have Terrifying?
  5. As i read here before if you obey an enemy and make him walk out of one of your model you flip and cheat for both models. Now if you make the enemy model walk into one of your terrifying model engagement range. Do you flip/cheat the horror duel for the enemy model? Same question if you obey for attack action/charge (with zoraida or on pigs) targeting terrifying model.
  6. had a great interaction that had me scratching my head.... so i asked the local rules people, and it got some more heads scratching they said post it here, hope for an official response... so here it is.... Question: terrifying says if u end a walk within engagement range take a horror test, does not mention los.... so do u need los? Reason I'm Asking: according to faq / errata: Q: If two models are engaged, and one of them wishes to take a Walk Action which will result in it no longer being in LoS of the model it is engaged with (without actually leaving the engagement range) will this provoke a disengaging strike? A: No. Disengaging strikes only occur if the model intends to leave the engagement range. Although the models will no longer be engaged once their LoS to each other is broken, no disengaging strike occurs unless the model is also leaving the engagement range. so you can walk out of los to break engagement as long as you stay in engagement range.... so if you break los while staying in engagement range of a terrifying model, you are no longer engaged, but you should have to take a terrifying duel because you are still in engagement range..... right? Here Is What Happened: firestarter (has flying 5" move) is on the ground, in a square building with a roof, teddy blocking the doorway, engaged.... hungering darkness behind teddy with los on firestarter also engaged.... firestarter with 1 wound, wants to leave without disengaging strikes, or taking a terrifying test, so flies (ignoring models and terrain) past teddy and huggy, out of the building, up and over a 5" wall, and lands inside a building on a step so it is still within his move range because vertical movement was only 1", top down view movement was 4", he is now outside of los of everyone, but did not break engagement range, so no disengaging strikes.... terrifying says if u end a walk within engagement range take a horror test, does not mention los.... well the firestarter ended the walk still within engagement range, but with no los, as required by the faq/errata.... so take a terrifying?
  7. Terrifying duels happen when you target or end a walk action in engagement range of the model. Could a model charge a model beside another model with terrifying, ending its charge movement in engagement with the terrifying model without needing to pass a terrifying duel?
  8. So in a tournament last week I was told that the (All) category in Terrifying does not mean that All models have to check, but that All "possible categories" in the Terrifying have to check (Living, Undead, Construct). This would make the diference for those models which are not in any of those 3 categories, like Dreamer or Bad Juju, who are Spirit and Swampfiend only. I have always played it as affecting ALL models, but it does make kinda sense if it mean ALL categories.
  9. If a model is engaged with another model that has the Terrifying ability, would they still have to pass a Horror Duel before attempting to disengage? They're trying to walk away (Walk Action), which does not "target" the Terrifying model, yet the disengage is treated like a melee attack, which does target a model. Thanks! <Edit: I think I just answered my own question... So it seems as though the model attempting to walk away is doing the Walk Action, and it's the OTHER model that then target's the model trying to walk away. So Terrifying would not be an issue when trying to disengage.> Would still appreciate a confirmation on this, that I'm reading it correctly.
  10. In reading Seamus' card tonight, I noticed it says "Terrifying (All) 12..." I also noted that Rasputina says "This model is immune to Horror Duels..." Just wanted to verify, that the negative exemption on Raspy's card, overrules Seamus' "ALL" ability? Thanks.
  11. Hey Malifolks! A beginner's question. I have Seamus, and he has the "Terrifying" ability. I'm reading the mini-rulebook, and am still confused how this process works. Could someone clarify for me? This is how I understand it so far... "enemy models must pass a TN 12 horror duel..." - which means they use their WP stat, and then flip a card, and add the WP to the flip, and if they hit a 12 or higher, then they PASS the Terrifying and don't suffer any penalties. - If they get an 11 of less, then they become "paralyzed"? Once paralyzed, they would loose any remaining action points, and basically end their activation immediately for the rest of the turn. At the start of the NEXT turn, is paralyzed no longer on that model? Should that model and Seamus still be engaged at the start of the next turn, would the enemy model then have to take another Terrifying check for targeting Seamus with a melee attack? Part 2: Seamus' card/model triggers* "Terrifying" two different ways... 1) if the enemy model ends its walk/charge/double-walk within Seamus' melee range (1") -- this would apply then if the enemy model simply lands within his melee range, regardless if they are targeting Seamus or not right? 2) if Seamus is targeted at all. Which would mean, if an enemy model is shooting or casting a ranged attack on Seamus? *I know it's not an actual "trigger", I just wasn't sure what other word to use.
  12. I recently played a game against the jack daw with the alone in the dark rule in effect. During the game Jack daw's controller moved the jack daw back and forth into melee trance with my models to force and reforge terrifying checks. The way the rules are worded it seems like my models should only have to take terrifying checks during their activations. Which method is correct?
  13. Question 1: If a pig is already stampeding, is it affected by Terrifying? Question 2: Would the pig's Swine Dash Action fail due to a failed terrifying test or does it gain immunity to terrifying since the pig is already stampeding and would only begin stampeding again at a failed terrifying test or does the initial action succeed and if starting in a threat zone then does is take the terrifying check? To me it seems pigs gain immunity to terrifying when stampeding as they only further gain stampeding. Question 3: I was playing again a Collette crew with Cassandra which stated she can not be targeted with Melee attacks until turn 3 unless she make an attack. Unless I am mistaken this means she can't be attacked with a swine dash action (melee portion at least). Is my analysis correct?
  14. The rule for terrifying says "make a morale duel when...Enter a terrifying effect range" So...a terrifying model EG molly with the gorgons tear, moves in to range of an enemy , dose the model take a test ? The reason I ask is I have just finished a game and molly walked in to range and we couldnt decide if it worked because the other model (pa pa loco) did not walk in to range and therefore did not willfully enter it.
  15. Do models that are wounded by these Wispers lose immunities/bonuses involving Wp Duels FOR THE GAME, or just that turn? Am I correct in assuming that (living)models that have Immune to Influence are now subject to Terrifying checks? Constructs by their nature could never be subject to Terrifying, yes?
