  1. Hello everyone! This is my first attempt at writing a Tacitca for use. I'm writing it for a master which I played a lot (and influenced) during the Beta, so I know a few of his tricks. The main idea is to share these with new players attempting to start him or old players trying some new tricks out. I speak, of course, of Hamelin. To make things easier, first blocks will describe the master without any upgrades. Improvents on certain things will be noted under the respective upgrade section. Stats First thing to see are his stats, which are pretty decent, yet average, across the board. A good wound pool and great wp, his other stats are among the average mold. He however, lacks any station characterstics (living, undead, etc) which means there are quite a few abilities that don't work on him, wheter good or bad. Lastly, he starts with a meager cache of 1. Remember this when construction your crews. Defenses Hamelin has two abilities toward defense: Nihilism, and Lure of Emptiness. He doesn't have any damage migation abilities, such as Armor, or Hard to Wound. Lure of Emptiness grants backup lives with nearby stolen. When Hamelin is killed or sacrificed, he may sacrifice a nearby stolen instead and heal some wounds. An useful ability that migates a bit Hamelin's innate squishiness. However, watch out for having a lack of stolen in a critical moment, as Hamelin is easily hit and takes the full brunt of an onslaught. Nihilism, on the other hand, is one of the most powerful defensive abilities in the game. It allows you to ignore any conditions as you see fit. This is entirely optional, and allows you to still gain the condition if you like it. Perfect if your opponent is handing positives mixed with negatives, as you get to ignore the negative conditions while keeping the postive ones. Don't forget to thank your opponent after that. Another thing to note is the Tyrant characterstic. This grants weaknesses towards the infamous Relic Hammers. Keep them away from Hamelin's face! (Relic Hammer bearers are Johann, The Captain, and Taelor) Blighted Blighted is the condition that Hamelin and his friends spreads out like candy. What does it do, you ask? Absolutely nothing. Don't let this discourage you! While I am saying that it does nothing, it does have important tricks to consider. The most important and deadly to remember is Bleeding Disease. This nasty spell deals damage equal to the current blighted stack to an enemy. It does not remove the stack, so you can freely fire away, racking huge damage for only a few AP spend. There are also other tricks with certain models, but we'll leave that for later. Blighted increases on it's own at the end of turn. Nifty right? Rats Hamelin wouldn't be Hamelin without his little rats. One rat is an unintersting sight, but there are far more hiding right out there. Rats spawn for free when an enemy within 6 of Hamelin dies. Other models can also spawn them. Rats are weak, cheap, small, and pathetic. They think so too, so they swarm together when there are four of them close to each other. (friendly or enemy) The resulting Rat Kings are more intimidating, providing a nasty way of getting rid of scheme markers, as well as improved damage output. (it's a little better) Due to the free rats, expect to always being able to out activate enemies. Actions Hamelin has several actions open to him. First of all, the Black Staff is his basic melee attack. It has a unimpressive damage track of 1/2/4, but ml 6 is nothing to scoff at. It has always access to two basic triggers, one which hand out blighted and another which increases damage by the blighted on the target, to a maxium of +3. His second action, are the Pipes, which is basically a lure. It has an auto trigger that deals damage and moves the target further if it has blighted. Lastly, bleeding disease has been covered already. Under tactical actions, he has a Lure Malifaux Citizen, a (0) that allows him to summon a Stolen in base contact. Stolen are jeleous and murder all non-stolen totems summoned this way. If you spend a soulstone, you are capable of hitting a trigger that allows him to do it all again. (sans trigger) Upgrades Of course, there are always upgrades, and Hamelin is no exception. The Plague First of his upgrades, Virulent denies any removal of Blighted within 6 of Hamelin. Prefect for letting enemies build larger stacks of blighted. Secondly, it allows the usage of two triggers, both which trigger automaticly. The first hands out blighted, which is handy for putting blighted on ranged. The second only goes of on blighted+4, but grants the target a condition that forces the enemy to discard two cards for each interact action... Or it simpely fails. Putting blighted on range is The Piper Hamelin's near-auto-take limited upgrade grants two powerful abilities. Irresistable Dance, and Obey. Ireresistable Dance forbids enemies from ending charges within 6 of Hamelin. Protecting him and his crew from charges, it negates one of the weaknesses Hamelin has. Obey with a build in suit is a very powerful tool in any master's crew, and Hamelin is no different. Tools of the Tyrant This upgrade grants triggers to the Black Staff, as well providing even more interact denial. Unhealty pallor allows Hamelin to heal for each blighted model within 3. Blight your friends first, and then use them as health packages! Remember that blighted doesn't do anything when not forced upon you.... The second trigger puts blighted on a single target within 3" of the damaged model. It allows you to put blighted on certain elusive models hiding away from your ranges. It has it's usages whithin certain combo's, such as setting up the 1 AP charges using Drawn to Contagation. The main selling point of Tools, however, is Face The Inevitable, a 6 that let's interact actions of enemies fail unless they discard a card. Suddely delivering messages, or distracting becomes a lot harder to do. Sewer King Last of the four Hamelin restricted upgrades, Sewer King grants Infiltration (Lost) allowing you to hire up to four out of faction Lost models. Currently they are Crooligans, Baby Kade, Iggy, and Candy. More on them later. It also grants Useless Toy, a (0) that let's you sacrifice any model of choice to draw two cards. If a stolen is sacrificed, enemy models within 3 of the stolen get blighted. Of course, you wouldn't want to kill stolen off all the time, as sometimes it's better to get rid of a near-dead model that has already activated. Or you could just kill rats. Infectious Melody A Nihilist option, infectious melody allows Peons and Minions to gain fast at the start of their activation. They die at the end of that activation, going out in a blaze of glory. Sometimes you just need that 1 additional AP. Survialist Not Hamelin exclusive, but deserved a special metion here. Most importantly, it grants him ridicilous levels of defense in the form of Hard to Kill. Hard to Kill works hand in hand with Lure of Emptiness, soaking attacks in tandem. First, hard to kill goes off, reducing you to 1 wound. Then, lure of emptiness goes off, healing you above Hard to Kill thresshold.. It's certainly worth the ss if you find that you die too often. Oh, it also grants on healing flips. Spreading & Utilizing Blighted Decided to make a list of sources & blighted utilities. Spreading Blighted For all intents and purposed, Rats & Rat Kings are immune to Blighted. Diseased gives blighted to enemies that activate within 3. Source: Obedient Wretch & The Stolen, ability. The Taint trigger gives Blighted +1 for each in the final duel total. Source: Hamelin, Black Staff. The Decaying trigger gives Blighted +1. Source: Hamelin, Pipes. Requires The Plague upgrade. The Contagious Touch trigger gives Blighted +1 to a model within 3" and LOS of the target when damaging. Source: Hamelin, Black Staff. Requires Tools of the Tyrant upgrade. Useless Toy, when you sacrifice a Stolen with this action, all enemy models within 3 of the sacrificed Stolen gain Blighted +1. Source: Hamelin. Requires Sewer King upgrade. Feed On Anima gives Blighted +1 on a hit. Source: Nix Rusty Trap gives Blighted +1 on a hit. Source: Rat Catcher Swarm of Yellow Teeth gives Blighted +1 on a hit. Source: Rat King. The Spray of Filth trigger gives Blighted +1 to all models 6 when the target is killed. Source: Rat King. Yellow Teeth gives Blighted +1/+2/+3 depending on the damage flip. Source: Malifaux Rat Drink Spirit gives blighted to all within 4 unless a Wp test is passed. Nihilist models are immune Source: Nix Using Blighted Bleeding Disease deals damage equal to the Blighted condition of the target. Source: Hamelin, Nix, Stolen & Obedient Wretch. The Black Death deals damage equal to the Blighted condition of the target, to a maxium of 3. This is a seperate damage source. Source: Hamelin. 2. Hi all once again, so last year I started collecting Malifaux minis, and painted a few up. Then for one reason or another everyone at my local club stopped playing. So the Outcasts sat on a shelf. But now they're back! Here's a refresher of what I had already finished... Sorry for the amount of photos
  3. hello people, I have been running Jack Daw for a while now and with all the movement shenanigans and curse potential he is my favourite, I just keep finding new and cool lists with him. I have recently tried the following list Jack Daw > Writhing torment Twist and Turn 3 curses Jakuna Ubume > The creeping Terror Ama Na Zako Lady Leiga Ronin Johan Montressor > fearful whisper Brick by brick I have found another interesting way to play him (this may not be a new way to some but I'm not the quickest to discover new things), its all the terrain the only thing that I have had to be careful with is ama na zako's terrain say all models where as jakuna says enemy so placement is key tried it with a drowned but ama na zako kept killing him, in my other lists I tend to have a good mix where as this has two focal models but with strategies like turf war I think it could really work. please share your thoughts comments on this or on Jack Daw
  4. Question that came up and I hadn't thought about and now I'm not sure any more. At the end of the turn the model suffers damage equal to half its Wd stat. Is this the Wd stat printed on the card or the number of wounds it has left. E.g. If I summon a Guild Autopsy and my opponent puts a few wounds on it will it be killed when it takes its half wounds?
  5. Malifaux is a great game and it motivated me to pick up my paintbrush again and again this year. Here are my first two painted crews. I hope many more will follow.
  6. My finished models so far. Had a lot of fun painting these! The bases are from Micro Arts Studio.
  7. When I started Malifaux some time ago, I decided to buy von Schill and his comapny - it seems a fairly "fist-to-face"-style of playing, learning the rules and getting used to the game. I then forgot about Malifaux because I didn't want to give it that much thought as I should have done. Recently, I painted my company, giving the game another try. And I'm quite impressed how good it is. I realized, it's not the game's fault - it's my fault. I was a bit disappointed with the distribution of luck since I happened to get some really bad cheating hands. But I forgot about soul stones. It seemed frustrating when my opponent had better cards to cheat with. But I forgot about soulstones and bonus flips. There are multiple layers to this game and I am really hooked right now. Anyways, here are pictures of my von Schill crew: And one in-action foto: Unfortunately, the rest of the Outcast Masters doesn't suit me that much, therefore I decided to switch faction and going to... gremlins (uuuh yeah!). I ordered Ophelia and Som_er and some pigs and in the meantime, von Schill's crew will get one or two additions. I also started building a Malifaux-board, so have a look at the Terrain Talk, too
  8. Hey guys, after playing Neverborn with Collodi, Dreamer and Pandora for awhile I've decided to strike out into a different faction and have chosen outcasts. So far I've acquired: Hired Guns Hired Swords Salvage and Logistics Hannah Lazarus Hodgepodge Emissary I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on stuff like lists I could build, synergies, traps and what to add to my collection. Thanks
  9. With us all starting a new orbit of the sun and seeing in my second year back in the wonderful world of wargaming I thought it about time I start my first ever project log. I'm yet to actually play Malifaux but I'm told there's a pretty healthy community around my way, regardless the miniatures a lovely and look to present a rather nice challenge. I'm hoping that this will help keep me motivated and get these guys done over the coming months. I'm not the worlds greatest painter but I aspire to create some attractive and atmospheric table-top quality miniatures. If anyone's interested in what else I've painted (and the standard to expect...) here's a link to my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_blackjack13/ With a love of militaria and mercenaries there was really only one faction for me; that of The Outcasts. Despite seemingly not being a popular Master I had to pick up Von Schill and his Freikorps, then for some variety and Taelor I ended up with Viktoria's Hired Swords. So here's what I've got to be working through: Humble beginnings and not very exciting, but I've decided to first start with the bases. I wanted these uniform across the force so figured it easier to get them all done at once. The idea is for them to represent the Quarantine Zone of the city. That, and base toppers make my life a lot easier! I'm aiming to have them look similar to the tiles used on the LotR Elf. There's not a lot to go on so far, but I'm open to comments and critique. One thing I would really appreciate some help on: - I've got 1x spare 25mm base topper. I feel this needs to be filled with someone, but I can't decide on whom. Currently I'm considering holding out for Anna Lovelace, although Big Jake and Hans are also rather tempting. I like the idea of Sue but not being able to run him with the Freikorps is a bit of a deal breaker. What would you guys suggest? Thanks for looking. Fingers crossed I'll be able to keep this going and keep you guys interested!
  10. Just recorded last night a tutorial introduction to Parker Barrows: Hateful Darkblack's Intro to Parker Hope this is helpful!
  11. I tend to find whilst playing Outcasts that for a majority of my games I seem to be going too elite heavy with only 6 or so models on the field in a 50ss game. Wondering if anyone has any tips or hints to help me figure out a more rounded out crew thought process. I tend to play Von Schill at the moment and Jack Daw
  12. Hello guys, i'm relatively new to the game and never posted on a forum before (so excuses if i'm posting wrong or on the wrong topic). I am wondering how Levi will do against a Misaki TT crew. I made a crew with Levi (from ashes), Rusty (from the eather), Ashes, Gunslinger and Johan (plus two hollow waifs ofcourse). Crew is made for summoning abominations with no starting abo's. Misaki will probably be base crew plus katanaka sniper and a brother or two. Any ideas in advance?
  13. Hello everyone, I love writing a justification for non-standard crews coming together. One of my favorites is Mercenary Nellie and I will be bringing both her and Von Schill to the Together Fauxever tournament in February. Here's a little scene about how that unlikely duo came to be, enjoy. Truth for Hire “It needs more substance, more vibrancy!” Nellie thumbed quickly through the unfinished first draft from her newest reporter, circling spelling errors and inconsistencies with a fat red pen. She made long notes in the margins; filling in details she knew had to be present for the reader. “There, that’s a little better.” Nellie handed the draft back to the distressed young girl with a flower hat. She nervously took her draft and stared down at a flood of red ink, crossed out sentences, and re-written paragraphs. “Bring me your final draft to me tomorrow and make sure to follow my notes. You’re reporting on the Star Theatre, not some street-side juggler!” The reporter glared down at her paper, how she would make sense of the tangle of corrections and additions she didn’t know. She looked back up to ask how but Nellie was already busy at her own typewriter, fingers slamming the keys faster than she could see. With a resigned sigh she left the small office with the door cracked open, one small revenge before her inevitable termination. Not many people lasted long at The Tattler, every story had to be grandiose and exemplify The Truth, which was whatever Nellie wrote. The Tattler was bustling. A small room crammed with desks and typewriters in a constant frenzy of writing and re-writing. The Printing Press constantly churned out the latest edition, only stopping to refill its ink pots and collect more raw paper. The noise was blaring but Nellie hardly noticed. She wrote a more accurate report on the Star from memory and placed it haphazardly in the “Out” box on her ever crowded desk. She whistle - a door slammed louder than usual. Nellie looked and saw her door open a crack, one of her pet peeves. She got up in a huff and made to yell out on the floor but stopped short. “Who’s big idea was it!-“ Marching towards her, three Freikorps soldiers pounded across the floorboards. The churning office of the Tattler slowed as people turned to stare. The Printing Press paused its work and peaked around the corner to look. The lead Freikorps was a woman, her raven black hair held back in a tight bun and round spectacles held at the bottom of her nose. She walked with a steady confidence, some would say arrogance, but for the two hulking Freikorpsmen trailing just behind her. They openly carried huge pistols and knives longer than Nellie’s forearm, and were headed straight for her. “Nellie Cochrane!” The woman with black hair and glasses shouted as they approached. Nellie could swear she heard it in her mind more than her ears. A faint ringing echoed in her head for several seconds afterward. A chair fell over. Before Nellie could yelp Phiona appeared and pushed her back, raising a massive pickaxe. Her soulstone eye beamed red. “Back. Off.” Through gritted teeth, muscles tensed. The Freikorps stopped. The lead woman raised her hands in a sign of peace, and slowly produced a letter from a pocket on her suit. Phiona glared, but relaxed a fraction. Nellie poked out from behind and her eyes bounced between the woman and the letter. “For me?” “Congratulations Miss Cochrane, you’ve just hired the Freikorps.” Nellie shot out from behind Phiona and snatched the letter from the woman’s hand, her previous fear forgotten in an instant of excited frenzied letter opening. The letter was terse and to the point. ‘I accept’ Written in a quick sprawl by a very busy man with a red rose stamped underneath. A nice touch, thought Nellie. She looked back up to the woman, extending a gleeful hand. “Nellie Cochrane, pleased to meet you! You’ve just met my friend Phiona as well.” Nellie turned and waved down her friend and bodyguard, trying to calm her before anything impolite happened. She spun back to the Freikorps to catch the extended hand in greeting. “Miss Cochrane, a pleasure. I apologize that Von Schill could not make it in person today, but he will assuredly meet us before the event tomorrow.” “No worries, no problem!” Nellie kept shaking the woman’s hand. “Let me just grab a few things and we can get underway.” With a whoosh Nellie was back in her office, throwing supplies in her bag as quickly as she could. Pens, paper, more pens, extra ink, extra paper, extra pens and oh, a little more paper just in case. Nellie fled her office, letting the door smack against the frame and back to the wall. She whistled for the Press as she rushed passed Phiona and the Freikorps. She pointed at the two reporters in front of her. “You and you, let’s go. Phiona, you too!” She rushed out of the Tattler in a flurry. Phiona stalked past the woman with black hair and glasses, glaring with her red eye as she shoved past, grumbling under her breath. Hannah smirked and gestured for the two Freikorpsmen to follow the reporters. She whispered to herself, “I hope you know what you’re doing.”
  14. Hello Freikorpsmen! Some "little" questions about Von Schill... -Which Models do i have to add (remain in the Freikorps theme? / add some Rats etc.)? -Which Upgrades and auto includes du you usually use? -Do you use Hannah and/or Anna frequently and if yes, to do what? -Which Strategies fits best? -Any pretty 50SS Lists? Thanks and Greetz, Tobi aka Frozen Feet
  15. Looking for Neverborn (ideally not built or painted but let me know just just in case if not), especially Hide and Seek. All below are metal and unpainted, most are pinned and some glued together. Also have most cards. Guild: Lady Justice Governor's Proxy The Judge 3 x Death Marshals Lucius Ryle Guild Sergeant (Captain) Lawyer Guild Guard Resurrectionists: Seamus Grave Spirit Madame Sybelle 3 x Rotten Belles 3 x Guild Autopsy Outcasts: 2 x Viktorias (the twins) Taelor Bishop Johan Ophelia Francois Raphael Rami Pete Ravagé Drop me a PM
  16. With Nellie available for Black Friday I will finally be able to get my hands back into the Guild full swing for GG2017. I thought it would be fun to theoryfaux about Nellie abusing Embedded and hiring her max of four mercs. Here's the current list in mind: Nellie, 6 cache - Delegation, Embedded, Misleading Headlines Printing Press Strongarm Suit - Debt to the Guild Bishop - Numb to the World Trapper Trapper Reporter Reporter blahblahblah strats and schemes blah. Considering that you would take Embedded regardless of anything else, what do you think works best for Nellie here in a general sense? I.E. you go to a tournament with only Nellie, what models would you consider over others?
  17. Have original Ophelia Outcasts metal box set (only Ophelia has light undercoat) all other models (Francois, Raphael, Rami, Pere Ravage) as new still in bags, cards unopened. Will post pictures ASAP, looking for Neverborn mainly or anything out of the ordinary (maybe even Jacob Lynch) or reasonable ££ offer (UK based but will ship world wide) Thanks
  18. Does anyone have advice about facing the masked bandido? Specifically with Lynch. I expect to be blindsided by the new stuff but if anyone has tips about priority targets or schemes to avoid that would be neat
  19. Me and my buddy sit down and look at ripples of fate. Guild Master- Henchmen- Minions/enforcers- Resurrectionists Hope you guys enjoy
  20. This is actually my second thread, having started one back in 2010 which resulted in a few painted 1st Edition metals. I tried to revive it last year with a few Resurrectionists plastics but that project crashed and burnt because I wasn't prepared for the fragility of the plastics! I guess this makes attempt no. 3! This time I thought out the potential assembly issues in advance and so far no problems with the Punk Zombie I've started: The aim for these models is a realistic and desaturated look. After the Punk Zombies are done I guess next will be more Resurrectionists. Feedback would be much appreciated!
  21. Not available at this time
  22. Hey guys. I have been sharing my workings in painting my Kirai Crew in the Wyrd Facebook Group, but i thought this would also be a nice place to collect feedback, advice, etc. I can then tell you all about my fluff behind my decisions. Hope you like them.
  23. Minnesota wargamer Alex Vien/TheGreatSerpent has written up yet another awesome battle report with his favorite Outcast, Parker Barrows. This time, it is vs a familiar foe, Jack Daw of the Outcasts. Alex is preparing for the Renegade Open and has been experimenting with the idea of having an 'All-Comers' Parker Barrows list that he can drop into any matchup. In this battle report he continues to test out that experiment and gives a turn by turn re-telling of his game.
