  1. I'm fairly new to Malifaux - I played a demo game at GenCon 2013 and picked up the rules and the new Children of December, but it's not been until recently that I got back into painting after a downturn. I managed to finish up an Ice Golem for GenCon 2014 and was able to get him into the painting competition, but this was without a base (he's also not been sealed or anything) - since then I've been in the process of moving and haven't had a hobby area or had a photo booth set up to take halfway decent pictures of him until just this past week or so. I've won awards for painting figures before, but my goal with Rasputina and crew ideally would be to just paint them up to a standard I'm happy with - I'm not sinking in 30+ hours like I would for a competition figure, but I don't want to just slap on paint and not like the finished piece either. This Ice Golem is the first Malifaux figure I've done and I'm trying to acclimate myself to the different scale (I'm used to painting heroic scale figures, mostly), and my first attempt at painting "ice" and I'm using the Golem as the color test for the rest of the crew. I really like the scheme of the box art, so I'm trying to duplicate it with a minimum of effort. I'm basing Rasputina's crew on Secret Weapon bases and have a SW Snow Effects set I'm going to try out as well, so for all intents and purposes these are both work-in-progress pics although I've probably put in as much work into the Golem as I'm going to do. I picked up some other boxed sets at the last GenCon and I plan on spending more time on those - ideally I'd like to finish Rasputina and company soon so I'll actually be able to play with painted figures. Feedback, suggestions, and comments appreciated - don't really know a lot about the game world so I hope I'm on the right track...
  2. Hey guys! I'm relatively new to Malifaux, having only started 6 months ago, and I thought I'd share my first WIP crew with you all! I got into the game through a local beginner tournament with the Rasputina crew starter box and fell in love with the setting and the figures. Once I started playing I needed more models to get to 50 SS also as I found out very quickly the Raspy starter box is... lets say, less than mobile. But being the crazy person I am (and a poor Uni student) I decided to sculpt my own figures! so a wee bit of time has passed and I have a full crew, 3 Hoarcats (kinda) are currently in the works, so I'll update you all once I get them done. but for now, here is my raspy crew box, + my version of a Blessed of december, my Snow Storm created and painted in a 24h painting comp, and my two Silent Ones.
  3. Hi Fellas. I do frequently play Raspy, Marcus,Sandeep,Kaeris and sometimes Colette in a more or less competitive way. But when i do, there normally is no space for the big smashy Golem in my lists. He is so damned slow and needs all 3ap to do his devastating Smash attack. So, what do i have to do, to take him with me into battle? His impact feared by almost everyone. And there is a big sign above his head: Kill me as fast as possible.. How do i have to play him, to gain the biggest benefit of his tremendous power? Greetings
  4. Hello, I recently bought a Rasputina crew box, as I really love the December theme. I will also be getting a Snow Storm and Acolytes of December to go along with her. I've been seeing a lot of love for Snow Storm with Rasputina, but not much love for the Blessed of December, and even less for the Ice Golem. In a 50ss game... When would you include either of those two instead of the Snow Storm? When would you take either of those alongside a Snow Storm? (knowing it wouldn't leave many SS for other things) I am trying to decide if I want to buy a Blessed of December. If nothing else, I guess she's good with Marcus. But the Ice Golem, this beautiful translucent figure, needs to find a spot in my lists. I'm just not sure where. >.<
  5. Why isn't Ice Golem in every list? I love chucking things around the table. I love that it can target enemy models who get no defenses against it, plus gain Insignifigant for a turn (which is a pretty nifty way to cuddle enemy models). You can push friendlies out of combat, push allies into combat, shove models into aura or pulse range, or just add an effective 10" to the range of any shooting attack. You can even damage models simply by colliding them into each other. Beyond that, he's got solid offensive abilities if the enemy comes to him, decent armor, a few immunities, and even get's to explode when the enemy finally does kill him. He's got a good ht and base for blocking LOS too. Plus he's an Enforcer that isn't Rare. He's got very easy synergy with all of the Masters. I'm really surprised he isn't in more lists. I tend to only see him in my lists and in Raspy lists. EDIT: I keep calling Ice Golem a "He" despite no clear evidence to suggest a gender....

The start of my Rasputina Crew. Started with the Children of December box, going to add some December Acolytes in due course.
  7. From the album: Arcanists

This Ice Golem is my first finished Malifaux figure mounted on a Secret Weapon Miniatures 50mm Town Square base and using the Secret Weapon Crushed Glass Bundle for the ice and snow effects. I had originally entered him unbased (and not as far along) in the 2014 GenCon painting competition. He didn't place or anything, but I was happy to get him entered, since he was the first figure I'd finished after a long period of "artist's block." After GenCon and with a proper base, I added a bit more shading and definition, painted up the base, and used winter basing for the first time. Comments, questions, or feedback appreciated!

  11. Hello! I need some help from you guys! Just started my journey with M2E this year, I play with Rasputina I'm one of those players the like a "theme" to my crew, so i want the mins I use to be part of The Cult of December Saying that, I know there aren't a lot of the M2E mins out as plastics that are part of the cult, so at the moment I'm not spoiled for choice. To my problem, I use Rasputinas box and the AoD mins, but I can't for the love of me get the big guy to work :/ He usually ends up doing nothing or just dying very early on Should I just wait for the likes of SnowStorm to be released as plastic, since I find him more versatile? Anyone got any handy tips for a aspiring Arcanist? Thanks! Philip

  13. I am interested in getting up to 3 Ice Golem puppets from Puppet Wars. I missed them on the holiday sale. Let me know if you can help out. Thank you
  14. Ok, I have proxied Raspy for four games and I think am getting used to her playstyle and I might be ready to move the relationship to next level. All you Rasputina lovers out there, I need your wisdom. I am not interested in the starter box for two reasons: I really like the energy of the alt. sculpt and I think the ice golem is way too expensive considering I usually only play 25 soulstone games with occasional 35 soulstone scraps. I am in love with the ice gamin and mole men and that mix is devestating with Raspy's December's Curse. Bouncing blasts off of 3 and 4 soulstone minions is a bit cold-hearted but it fits her. With the Dug-in/December's Curse, I feel a little bad about doing it but when Lilith charges me and kills me in one activation ( Def 3, really?), I forget how bad I felt just destroying 2 young neph, 1 terror tot , and forcing Lilith to burn through her four soulstones to survive the blasts. So, Alt. Rspy, one blister of mole men, one blister of ice gamin...........and what else? What is missing that would make her a better Master. I have read the PullMyFinger wiki and it suggests the Silent One: one, two, or pass? I am not taking a totem, I prefer the soulstones. Is that a better way to go: not having to worry about protecting it and getting two soulstones for Overpower buffing? How about the Hoarcat and Rattler? Are they going to be terrible or could they be fun to change the line-up a bit? Looking foward to the Blessed coming out, is she any good? Who else? Remember, I do not want to spend more than 8 soulstones on a minion, but probably want minions that cost 6 soulstones or less. All thoughts and experiences welcome.
  15. Hey everyone, Been working on these guys for a while now, but I got them finished last week. Didn't get a chance to post them earlier because of lots of last minute painting for Australian Golden Demons, but here is my Rasputina and Cult of December Crew in all their glory: Rasputina (Front and Back) Ice Golem (Front and Back) The Ice Gamin So I've got a Snow Storm, Wendigo and Essence of Power sitting on my table to be finished (not to mention I got my Dead Justice and Teddy last week in the mail...). Anyway, there are some more photos and larger versions of these ones on my blog, along with links to all the Work In Progress photos: http://arrch.blogspot.com/2011/09/cult-of-december-rasputina-finished.html
