    Hi all, I'm about to start playing Malifaux with the Gremlins Faction, specifically Ophilia's mob/gang. I'd like to know what I need to get hold of to be able to play, rulebooks, equipment and so on. Any help would be appreciated... Dheekon.
  3. When I started Malifaux some time ago, I decided to buy von Schill and his comapny - it seems a fairly "fist-to-face"-style of playing, learning the rules and getting used to the game. I then forgot about Malifaux because I didn't want to give it that much thought as I should have done. Recently, I painted my company, giving the game another try. And I'm quite impressed how good it is. I realized, it's not the game's fault - it's my fault. I was a bit disappointed with the distribution of luck since I happened to get some really bad cheating hands. But I forgot about soul stones. It seemed frustrating when my opponent had better cards to cheat with. But I forgot about soulstones and bonus flips. There are multiple layers to this game and I am really hooked right now. Anyways, here are pictures of my von Schill crew: And one in-action foto: Unfortunately, the rest of the Outcast Masters doesn't suit me that much, therefore I decided to switch faction and going to... gremlins (uuuh yeah!). I ordered Ophelia and Som_er and some pigs and in the meantime, von Schill's crew will get one or two additions. I also started building a Malifaux-board, so have a look at the Terrain Talk, too

    Found a use for my Bushwhackers!

    So I had this idea a while back and I've used it in several games with Mah, Somer, and Ophelia. Get two Bushwhackers and Lenny, 1st turn use Bushwhackers to push forward 10 inches, then double walk Lenny within 3 inches of them. Bushwhackers have an ability which let's them take a free 14' inch shot whenever a friendly gremlin misses a shoot action at the cost of two wounds. Since they only have 6 wounds to start, it's usually not useful as they only get two and then die, but Lenny reduces that damage by one with his aura, which means we can use the ability alot more. The best use I've found for this combo is giving Somer masks with do it like dis, then missing shots with the Bushwhackers over and over, which allows Somer to push a crazy amount for free. I've scored full points undercover entorage with Somer starting turn 5 in my deployment zone with this. I've also used it to deny tail em' really easily. It's a bit expensive at 21 stones, but worth it if it's the right schemes. They're also decent snipers. It's not as effective or worth it in Ophelia and Mah, but still fun.

    Recently I’ve got an idea of new model. I’m not totally convinced, but I suppose this model’s conception seems to be pretty balanced. It has a great synergy with the Brewmaster, Zoraida and Pandora. It may interrupt enemy models or push friendly ones. I’ve decided to post it on the forum because I hope that my idea has a chance to be heard by Tyrant if you like this conception. Sticky Frog 10SS Minion, Living, Rare 1 Swampfiend, Woe Df 5, Wp 5, Wd 10, Wk 5, Cg 7, Ht 2 Gremlins/Neverborn dual unit 50mm base Abilities Perfect Camouflage: Attacks generated by the Charge Action and Sh Actions receive while targeting this model if this model has not yet Activated this Turn. Hard to Wound +1: Damage flips against this model suffer . Poisonous Fog: Models which begin their Activation within this model’s engagement range gain Poison +1 condition. Stifling Smog: Enemy models with the Poison Condition which end their Activation within this model’s engagement range immediately suffer 2 damage and then lower their Poison Condition value by 1.   10. Hello! So I recently began working on my own collection of gremlins that i have had for a long time. I have one painted, and am hoping to do some more painting tomorrow. I would love some constructive criticism on my work. I am aware of the green and red splotches, but rather then try to fix them on the figure I have finished, I have decided to leave it there, as a story, and a reminder of my first painting.     Why take Ophelia?

    So it's like the title says: Why Take Ophelia Lacroix over other gremlin masters? Now, I know the answer will probalby be "Because I feel like it" and, to be honest, that's the perfect reason to take any master. But from a competitive standpoint, why would you take Ophelia over the likes of Somer or Wong? What does she bring to the table?

    Anyone using any wave 4 in their henchman hardcore lists? I was thinking of throwing in an Iron Skeeter. Do over could really go on anyone. It's just extra card draw for when I drop my franc bomb on someone.
  14. Gremlins are the faction that got me to play malifaux. Although I started with ten thunders I found them kinda boring and not very thematically fun so I only played occasionally. Gracie hooked me and i've been a gremlin player since (who doesn't want to play a pig in armor from the kitchen). I don't post on the forums much but i've been having serious problems running gremlins. As this is the only faction I have I thought I'd look for some advice here before I sell them and try to start over. I've played for 2 years almost, over 100 games, and I own every gremlin model in the game. During this time I've gotten so badly beaten by even the newest of players that I'm having a hard time reconciling the balance of the game when it comes to playing gremlins who seem to crumble by the middle of turn three. I'm disheartened to the point of just selling off my models and finding a new game to get into. So to get deeper into it.... I tend to play Zoraida and Ulix most followed by Somer. I've not gotten much play time in with Wong or Brewmaster and I dislike how ophelia plays. I tend to try to focus on strategies and schemes that require scheme markers as I expect to be able to out activate opponents for a turn or two and can get 3-4 points this way easier. I typically avoid points requiring long term terrain holding as this has always failed when gremlins get into combat.... they always just die in droves so I lose models and often gain zero points. Most of my games are basically over by the end of turn 2 or middle of turn 3. I understand that the out-activation that gremlins bring because they are cheap to purchase and have reckless abilities is how they should be powerful. However, in my experience the extra AP and activation control is only relevant until the end of turn 3 as by that time I've lost so many models, been forced to retreat or hide out in terrain, or just can't stand up to even a moderate sized opponents hand that the extra power in AP and activation is gone. I've had several games where I've lost a huge number of points in a turn and a half (turn 2 to middle of 3) and can't claim points beyond maybe 3 or 4. Comparing equal points model to model I can't see the balance in abilities and stats. Although many gremlins can get extra AP with reckless/drunk and reckless, the payoff isn't enough to make them that much better compared to models of the same points that can do the same or better actions without a down side that can cause them to get killed in one shot. Example: Nino (the big guild sniper) compaired to Rami. Nino can kill models by focusing quite easily with a high damage flip. For Rami to do the same I've had to reckless, get the ram trigger to knock myself to half health to get the same effect. If you consider the damage level a gremlin can do with a Ram trigger they are decent hitters but they also blow themselves up in the process and cost me models when this happens. One of my worst outcomes was losing Francois to a massive hit (admittedly killing the minion he hit) followed by losing Bert because of a ricochet trigger (flipped late and couldn't cheat to change), then because my two big hitters that were protecting Somer were gone he also died that turn. All because of one turn of damaging myself. My local Henchman has been extremely patient working with me to either get better or figure out lists to play for certain schemes etc. However, we've run out of ideas. I've tried playing conservatively, which helps with gremlin survival but I often still only get 3-5 points because my opponent has had two turns of free roaming for points. I've tried being aggressive with expendable models but find that I'm just spending two turns and 3-4 models to nullify one 5-10 point model, often losing 8-15 points of my own models in the trade. I've tried being more selective with schemes and strategies by focusing on what other gremlin players play (from podcasts and tournaments) but inevitably lose so many models so early on that I'm just waiting for my opponent to get max points and end turn 5 with a 4-6 point spread between us. I'm extremely positive and excited about playing every game (one to three games a week). I listen to and read hours of malifaux posts and podcasts every week trying to learn to play better. But by turn 2 or 3 in most games, even against new players, I'm just wanting the game to be over because i've lost so many models and will only be able to get half or less than half points and feel like i'm just waiting for my opponent to max out their points while I wait an hour for the game to end. I understand that it's possible, and very likely, that I'm playing extremely badly and can't figure out what to do to get better. But I also can't see the balance of the game when looking at a gremlin card compared to other factions. I love the game and how it plays but I'm very close to just selling all my models...... ANY advice would be great, any ideas for lists, advice on schemes and strategies to choose, any help with understanding how gremlins are even close to other factions in power level would be great before I decide to dump them.     Fast Grow League Advice

    Hi all! I'm returning to Malifaux after a three year sabbatical on the Other Side. There's a Fast Grow League (2015 packet) kicking off in a few weeks at the FLGS, and my wife and I have already signed up. In the past, I've always been a Guild toady (Sonnia & Hopkins are my heroes!), but the Gremlins are just too much fun to stay away from! That said, I've never run Gremlins outside of manning demos, so I could use some advice from fellow bayou brethren! Here's what I have access to: Wong (Explosive Solutions): fully painted Zipp (The Sky Pirates): un-assembled I also have just about all the Guild stuff, and nearly all the crews from the other factions. Many of them are older metal kits (we're in the process of updating). All that said, what do you folks recommend for additions? The league grows weekly: 26ss/30ss/40ss/50ss. The first two weeks are pretty easy-peasy (boxed crew plus upgrades), but the following two weeks get a bit tougher. I thought I'd ask early as I'm a terrible stickler for having models painted before playing with them. Thanks in advance!!!

  17. I've run into a bit of a problem while putting together my Mechanical Skeeters. The models themselves aren't actually that bad (although all the tiny ropes cause me no end of grief) The issue I'm running into is that they don't fit on their 40mm bases. At least, not in any remotely useful manner. Heck, one of them (Skeeter 3 in the build instructions) Stands on its own completely surrounding a 50mm base without touching it at all. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do about this. I've looked around online, but there aren't really any 40mm flying stands available for sale. I tried buying some 20mm square flying stands and gluing those to the 40mm base, but A. the stands I got were defective (round peg, square hole) and B. It looked ugly as sin. I'm curious how other people with these models have solved the issue.
  18. So I've been playing Malifaux for around a year (well, playing again, its a long and uninteresting story). I play exclusively Neverborn. I'm not a fantastic player, but I'm not a terrible player either. I have no issues playing against any faction, except Gremlins. I really hate people who make casual unbalanced accusations as most of the time its a lack of imagination. In this case though I really struggle to see a pathway to victory when my opponent is a skilled Gremlin player. When I first started playing I heard some people talk about how OP gremlins were, but I also heard others say they were terrible so I assumed a balance there. But after going against them enough times I, frustratingly, am starting to agree that there are balance issues. Being able to buy up to 6 stuffed piglets for 2ss each is ridiculous. Even if ALL they did was given an activation that would be good. But they can deny schemes like Convict just by existing. If you can reliably kill them from range they will run up and tarpit you, and the fact that their explosion on dying is OPTIONAL is even more ridiculous, since you can't even force them to explode by killing them next to their own models. Add in a Pigapult, which is ludicrously low cost for what it does, and you now have 7 activations for 20ss which can deal MINIMUM 3 attacks from 24" away without requiring LoS which have a decent likelihood of blasting. Rooster Riders are ridiculous for 6ss cost models. Combined with the presence of Dumb Luck and Bayou Two Card on most of the faction I don't see what they don't do better than everyone else. High number of activations, essentially 3 ap for their entire faction in the form of reckless, insane damage output for what in my opinion is minimal cost, initiative control, hand control, high speed. So I'm not trying to be a whiner. I just am at my wit's end. I've asked experience players I know, I've asked forums on Facebook, I've asked my local henchmen. How do you beat Gremlins? I've been told to take WP attack models, but on a whole I actually don't find their WP THAT low. I've been told to isolate and kill off key models, but I'm completely unsure as to how to even get close. Manipulative, Mimic's Blessing, and Perfect Camouflage are all basically useless since nothing important on the Gremlins' side will happen before I'm completely finished activating. The only things I've come up with so far are things like Tuco, which can alpha strike the pigapult with Rets Eye from the shadows and hopefully take out a few other models with blasts, but if you lose the deployment flip then that strategy goes out the window, and even if you succeed Tuco for the Pigapult isn't an even trade. Zoraida seems to be a really good master against them. Obey's can make Stuffed Pigs go off, I think, and turn Rooster Riders back on their own with 1ap charges. Collodi could do that too I suppose and could bring Vasalisa along for more straight Obeys. So.... what do you guys have? Considering posting this in the Gremlin forums too. I'm not saying the game is broken, or even that Gremlins are definitely unbalanced, but curious how others feel on the subject and to know if anyone has figured out a way around these issues. I'm very interested in figuring out a way through this problem rather than saying its a balance issue, I'm just becoming exasperated trying to see the balance and failing.

    Starting with Mah, where to go?

    I've convinced my significant other to get into the game and she took a shine to Mah Tucket. She'll be getting Mah's box for Christmas and has picked up some single boxes on her own that she thought looked cool. Being an Archanist player, I'm not familiar enough with Gremlins to really know how to use her models very well or where to go from here. What she'll have come x-mas: The Bushwhackers box Merris LaCroix Sparks (I picked him up for Mei Fang) Gluttony (my Crossroads 7 box) Whiskey Golem (clearance at lgs) Moon Shinobi box (clearance at lgs) My initial thoughts are to pick up singles of the rest of the Brewmaster box and she can use my Performers for that list but I feel she should stick to a single master for a bit. Thoughts?

    Brewmaster Expansion.

    Hello guys, I am fairly new to Malifaux and have been attracted by the aesthetics of the Gremlin crew Brewmaster so I picked up the starter box! Now I don't know where to go... I have read on here that he isn't the best crew for a beginner so I was wondering what other Master box would be a good addition to expand them to either use the models from the box with a different master - or to use the models within the new box with Brewmaster. Whilst I know he is Ten Thunder too I really want to stay in the Gremlin line as I favour playing this for greater sense of fun over achievement / tournament play. Any help would be appreciated and I will be scouring this thread for hints on how/when to play him. Thank you.

Hey all, so I am working on a Bayou Gremlin village terrain set with a few buildings, both whole and collapsed/dilapidated, a quicksand footprint for hazardous/severe terrain, and a pig pen, but am kind of stuck on ideas for scatter. I was thinking I could just do a bunch of "junk" (but even that, what junk would make sense?), and given the cantankerous nature of gremlins, a couple of rough and ready "walls" to hide behind and shoot make sense to me, but I am kind of stuck on other smaller pieces to break up the table and provide some interesting terrain options, so thought I would turn to the hive mind here. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Is Fingers too expensive?

    Well it's just as the tittle of the topic says. I've asked myself this question almost since the first time I used him. I mean he usually delivers (or used to, in the CG 2016 he feels much less useful for some reason) but at the same time he does no damage and he's not that resilient at all, so any opponent will get rid of him pretty easily, and that's 10ss, or more, wasted. Any thoughts on this?
