  4. Iron Painter 2017 - Round Two

    Nervous. Relieved. Excited.
  5. My round 2 Submission. I was inspired by the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, that inspired the theme "Water Water Everywhere" Eventually, the ship encounters a ghostly hulk. On board are Death (a skeleton) and the "Night-mare Life-in-Death", a deathly-pale woman, who are playing dice for the souls of the crew. With a roll of the dice, Death wins the lives of the crew members and Life-in-Death the life of the mariner, a prize she considers more valuable. Her name is a clue to the mariner's fate: he will endure a fate worse than death as punishment for his killing of the albatross. With that in mind, I set out to build a board that was inspired by that part of the story. A ghastly Drowned walking out onto the docks leaving his fated Dice and Seaweed behind.

wanted to post up some WIP of The Drowned I'm working on. Hopefully i can get him painted and the diorama put together by sunday night. If not I'm feeling good about just submitting the model.

So... Yesterday I placed an overnight order for the Drowned online. This morning they messaged me that they were out of Drowned and they had no ETA for restock. Question how many people are painting up the Drowned for round 2? Anyone else have good suggestions for an aquatic miniature? I'd just finished my background for the drowned stage i setup too...

I looked up “Water, Water, Everywhere...” it’s from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge you can read it here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43997/the-rime-of-the-ancient-mariner-text-of-1834 Hopefully that info is accurate and maybe it’ll help some folks with inspiration.

I'm placing my bet round 2 will be NMM technique. NMM = Non Metalic Metal. Harder then OSL?

You definitely want to setup some sort of light box and a good clean stage to take photos of your mini. I definitely ran around like a crazy person hacking a box together in the early hours of the evening to get my submission in. Find a good Moving box or file storage box. cut the sides off, and affix clean backing sheet (cookie sheet) paper to the windows you cut. Lights placed on the outside of each window. Here is a good Tutorial i found. But I'd shy away from using Photoshop for anything larger then simple clean up, like finding a piece of lint laying next to your mini and cloning it away. but shy away from "adjusting" the actual mini or applying filters.

I'm actually really good about the assembling stuff. I have a hard time getting everything painted though
