  1. Nope, not a problem at all. In Malifaux models have an assigned height value! It really gives a lot of room to play with creative basing!
  2. Actually, yes! I already have a nice carved base at around 12x8" to mount everything on. I intend to do a mock up of the Honeypot Casino for the models to inhabit. Since I'm so excited about building it, I decided I would paint the whole crew first so I stay motivated! PROGRESS: All 13 models mounted on custom built bases Original 6 models from Dark Debts primed Hungering Darkness fully painted Crew display base purchased I've been pretty consistently knocking out a crew a week, but I just picked up two hefty commissions, so they get the lion's share of the time. Fortunately, we have a Rapid Growth (2015) League starting at the FLGS on the 19th, so I'll continue to have an excuse to carve out time for Mr. Lynch!
  3. Oh! Thanks for the idea! I had no clue what to do for poor Mr. Tannen, so his base is pretty plain! Thankfully, I haven't primed him yet, so maybe a roulette table is in order!
  4. Thanks for the compliments! The bottles are from WFB Empire Outriders, and the bucket is from WFB Empire Cannon.
  5. Okay, so Huggy D is completed. I stretched a bit to try my hand at OSL and my lack of practice shows. No worries though, he'll play well enough, lol!
  6. Oh my! This, so much this! What a great way to weave in that player's destiny step! At the end of every session I always tell my players what they can expect the following week. "So & So" will have a brush with destiny, "So & So" will face a development in their faction, expect a lot of time spent downtown. This gives my players something to chew on between sessions and frees up the Prologue to be a true intro to the story. Granted, I still don't allow the players to choose Pursuits until the Prologue has concluded. This leaves me some wiggle room to tailor it to the characters as they existed before the new plot kicks off. It's especially helpful when we have a Prologue with a few flips involved.
  7. Hi all! I'm returning to Malifaux after a three year sabbatical on the Other Side. There's a Fast Grow League (2015 packet) kicking off in a few weeks at the FLGS, and my wife and I have already signed up. In the past, I've always been a Guild toady (Sonnia & Hopkins are my heroes!), but the Gremlins are just too much fun to stay away from! That said, I've never run Gremlins outside of manning demos, so I could use some advice from fellow bayou brethren! Here's what I have access to: Wong (Explosive Solutions): fully painted Zipp (The Sky Pirates): un-assembled I also have just about all the Guild stuff, and nearly all the crews from the other factions. Many of them are older metal kits (we're in the process of updating). All that said, what do you folks recommend for additions? The league grows weekly: 26ss/30ss/40ss/50ss. The first two weeks are pretty easy-peasy (boxed crew plus upgrades), but the following two weeks get a bit tougher. I thought I'd ask early as I'm a terrible stickler for having models painted before playing with them. Thanks in advance!!!
  8. Wow! Looking good! Welcome back to the brush obsession! I also paint using a lot of glazes over thin layers of paint (in fact I don't think I've used straight black paint in forever...), so it's great to see someone else also using the technique! From your post it sounds like you are mixing up a wash of the base color with a bit of matte black? I don't think I've ever tried that; thought it would turn out to harsh. You might want to try using a complimenting glaze just for fun. Paint on your base color (I like to use a light grey), then take a wash and thin it waaaaaaaaaaaaay down. Apply this "glaze" thinly over the model in 5-12 layers. You'll get super smooth shading and highlights out of it. You can get all sorts of crazy combos by varying the base and glaze colors. Alternately, you can carefully hand layer highlights on, then use less glazing to get some pretty bright results too!
  9. WELL DONE! NMM, OSL...! Fantastic!
  10. Looking good! VonSchill's apron looks particularly smooth!
  11. So, I had a bit of a detour the last few weeks. I hammered out the Guild Starter Set so the wife and I can demo, and that crazy old Wong showed up at Christmas! Now that all those fellers are behind me, this crew has hit the table! Huggy is first up, though he only has the first few layers of highlights on him. I'll try to shoot some pics of WIP as I go this weekend! Thanks for the support everyone! So much easier to keep motivated!
  12. Well done! You did a particularly good job of achieving smooth colors! Huzzah!
  13. Funny story, actually! I use blue-tack to attach the minis to pill bottles or spray can caps while painting to keep my fingers off of them. Both of the Lightening Bugs with fire plums broke while I was pulling them off! So yeah, they're pretty fragile. As for transportation, I have a "Breach Bag" made by Battlefoam back in the day, and I swapped one of the standard trays for pluck foam. I haven't cut the spaces for the minis yet, so no pics, but it's worked well in the past for fiddley models.
  14. Oh wow! That looks fantastic! I would never have thought to use a paperclip! I really like how the bright red acts as a spot color to help break up the model! Fantastic!
