  1. Of course. SD Malifaux is the facebook group. We play every sunday at At Ease games in Miramar. I'm also happy to go to other stores to catch games. Our henchmen are John and John! Come on down this sunday and meet everyone!!
  2. She had used all of her stones saving her Vik of blood earlier in the game. If she had though, they were from 4 separate sources of damage. 5 different sources though (1 from each guardsman, 1 from each attack of the charge from Dade). But she definitely could have!
  3. Lucius can do this with a trigger on Secret Assets, his 0 action ignore LOS sniper upgrade. I believe they need to have a nearby scheme marker for you to consume though. I could be mistaken on the latter half. But it's pretty funny for dig their graves. Pop them from safety, drop a scheme at their feet, command your gun line or thrall to finish them off. Also, I've had a lot of luck playing three riflemen. I had all three of my riflemen proc alongside Allison Dade to kill a charging Viktoria of Ash before she got to flip a card.
  4. I recently played a goofy trick list. It worked pretty well. It was The Judge as leader, Death Marshal Recruiter, Death Marshal, and Sanctioned Spellcaster. The DMR keeps your judge and Death Marshal alive by pitching cards as long as you position well. The Sanctioned Spellcaster stands behind your lines and uses Singularity to prevent push pull shenanigans. A lot of players in my meta prefer to keep you out of the scoring zone, noting that missing a single point usually results in you losing the game. The Death Marshall boxes their 10+ soul stone model and runs away! It worked well, I messed up a play during the first round that would have gotten me a tie.The other games were really funny and frustrating for the opponent as they'd never seen "Not Today Lads". If you're saucy, you can even make the Sanctioned Spellcaster a death marshal for the turn.
  5. I'm not sure if this matters. But Allison's trigger says "Opponent Suffers 2 damage" rather than "Deal 2 damage". Debt says when Dealing damage. I think, FAQ aside, this difference in wording would also disqualify A Debt to the Guild from working. And I believe it does so in similar cases, though I don't have any examples offhand. y/n? Also, I have been using Allison Dade a lot and she was heavily featured in my McCabe list that I ran during Califaux. She was integral to helping me win a number of games. She absolutely devastates Claim Jumpers and Incorporeal shenanigans. We don't have many CA attackers in the Guild.
  6. Hey Malifriends! My name is Steve and I recently had the honor of representing the Guild in Califaux 2017. It was my first major Malifaux tournament since starting the game approximately six months ago. In that time I have been the beneficiary of an incredibly passionate and nurturing San Diego meta that helped to foster my love and aptitude for the game we're all here to discuss. I met a lot of amazing players from all over the west coast and learned a metric boatload. There was some outreach over A Wyrd Place for me to post some thoughts on the event and as such, here I am! I was asked what I ran during the event, so I'll start with that. I was able to play all of my favorite masters in the 7 rounds that encompassed the tournament. I played Lucas McCabe three times, Sonnia Criid two times, and Lucius and Lady Justice each once. I'm happy to discuss those lists in greater detail if there's any call for it in this thread or over private messages. I was treated to a number of difficult games against player whom I feel were in many ways more skilled than myself. I won't claim to have any expertise in the game as most of my opponents have been playing far longer than myself and with a much deeper well of knowledge. Instead, I'd like to share my experience and observations. There was a great deal of Wave Four present at the tournament. Especially in the games I played. Of those, 5 involved Wave Four masters. I sat across the table from Reva three times and from Sandeep twice. All five of these games were exceptionally taxing due to my unfamiliarity with the masters and their shenanigans. Reva, especially, took me three tries to figure out. The first two games against her both resulted in draws. I attempted to counter her with Lady J first, thinking corpse marker denial was the key and found myself handily out maneuvered and neutralized. Then I attempted to blitz her with McCabe. I was able to successfully neutralize Reva, not kill her mind you, but neutralized myself as well, resulting in a 2-2 tie. Finally, on the third game, I was able to purify her with cleansing fire thanks to my favorite master, Sonnia Criid. And a red joker on damage from Francisco. Sandeep on the other hand seemed to be incredibly powerful but also very easy to control. In my first game against him I was able to engage him and his book worm wizards with a hungry executioner and McCabe's biker gang on turn 1. It made the game very difficult for Sandeep and denied a lot of his shenanigans. Despite this, the player I faced nearly fought out a draw due to his finer mastery of the game. The second encounter I brought Ms. Criid, for thematic reasons, but also because I felt she would be a difficult target for Sandeep to fend off. I was right, and I was also lucky. Sonnia was able to wipe half of Sandeep's five wound mages off the board from the safety of an ice cavern with a single attack (and a little help from a red joker). Once his retinue of spell casters were out of the picture he had a very difficult time manipulating the board, similar to a guardsman Lucius list, with which I am intimately familiar. I was able to smeagle a first place finish in the masters tournament, but I can't help but feel like there were better players with worse luck. I was humbled to have had the opportunity to play with all of my fellow Malifriends this Califaux and I'm looking forward to the next one! Thanks for reading Malifriends! (Post moved to the correct forum!)
  7. Moved this post to Battle Reports, cause I posted it in the wrong forum, like a dummy.
  8. I did kind of want to try Lucius. Mostly cause i hear he's bad. I want to know what makes someone bad. Also i want Captain Dashel. @Ozymandias79 I do want the Hoff box, but he seems like a master i need to dip into other factions to have a relevant list so Ive stayed away from him for now. His theme seems super fun though. @jphealy I do want to try Dita but I feel like she may be a little too generic gunline for me. i picked her up mostly for all the shenanigans her box enables. like Papa Box and Frank. Im gonna give her a shot (see what i did there) for sure though. She seems like guilds catch all master. @skoatz Ive been trying to pretend that Im wounding my enemy to make schemes easier for myself. But... then my blood gets a little hot and I decide I have to murder everyone. I need to play the game a little less like WarMachine and a little more loke Bloodbowl. Also, has their been a campaign event with maintained squads that dwindle or grow based on success like in a Bloodbowl season? A bit of a tangent but that would be pretty exciting.
  9. Thanks everyone for all the warm welcomes and advice! I tried to get some Austringers but i couldnt find any online and my flgs doesnt carry them atm :(. Same with the effigy. Tbh, @admiralvorkraft, my henchman said the same thing. He said that my murder tactics were very on point, but my scheming tactics were mostly ignored. Ill be trying a Criid list this weekend. Ill let you know how my defensive schemey minded list goes as opposed to last weeks whirlwind of retribution (I know which one sounds cooler...). Are there any strong hand control elements in the game? Like factions or masters that function by forcing top decking?
  10. I did get to box a Victoria of Blood and run screaming with her to the other side of the map. That was pretty funny. Definitely appreciated him there. I used hounds as my scheme runners. and by scheme runners i mean murders near scheme markers. they were awesome. And i really liked the Judge too!
  11. That's great advice, thanks. My introduction to the game was Lady J being a whirlwind of murder. i basically just charged from model to model cutting heads off with reckless abandon... I schemed very little. So while I mostly tabled my opponents I only won both games by a point or so. How are death marshalls when it comes to Guild's ranged threat? They were my only shooters. Are they a good baseline for what to expect on atk, rng, and dmg?
  12. Hey folks, I'm a brand new player. I saw the game and liked what was demoed for me so I picked up a Lady J box and some hounds to make myself a 50ss squad. I had my first games last weekend to great success and joy. I've since ordered Perdita's box and Sonnia's. I was wondering what sort of advice the community would offer to their newest guildmate? I've read nearly all of the guild articles on pullmyfinger and I've found with my limited knowledge of the game that the information is simulataneously too much and not enough. I'm sure as I come to understand the game better it will be an incredible resource but I lack the context to appreciate its tips. TL;DR: Hi! I'm new. Nice to meet you! Models and advice for a layman?
