  1. With Yan Lo you take Toshiro, so having a minion in a Jorogumo allows you to give it fast or focus. Either of which can be a scary proposition on a jorogumo.
  2. Komainu are better with Yin (cuddle to wp) and Toshiro (summoning) so I would only run them otherwise if against a crew with low WP models (nurses!) or ones with lots of defensive triggers. Agree that TTB never disappoint.
  3. Ran a pair last week. BtS on Toshiro for minion boosting, with Ronin to accompany. Public Demo was in the pool, so with a fast disguised Ronin and the ability to discard BtS for a final charge out of cover for the Thunder Archers made this a certain 3 pointer. Didn't need to discard BtS in the end, but it was there if needed ... They do only work in a blob like this, for a more spread out crew (against blasts for instance) I'd take a Sniper and possibly a Samurai for ranged as they can cope as a solo model without babysitting. The ronin stays always though.

  5. Best thing to work on with Misaki is her upgrades. Rather than run a list with a 7 soulstone cache I always prefer to get her tooled for the job. Worried about being charged first, take disguise. Need to drag an opponent out, go far stalking bisento. Need something dead in an activation, take recalled training (almost compulsory on Misaki). I like a samurai as a good all round model. If you are ok with proxies then 10T brothers and tengu are worth a look also. Kamaitachi is also a good alterrnative to Shang, certaily if Misaki uses her recalled training ... It's a pretty straight forward crew to learn with, so just get a few games down and see what works for you and then decide where your weaknesses lie.
  6. Try Yamaziko as well, 7SS for a model that no one will want to waste Wp duels on. Stick her in front with brace yari and a 3" melee range. Use smoke and shadows for mobile LOS blocking as well.
  7. Whoops - keep forgetting she can only carry smoke and shadows rather than using it. I know Misaki can't use it, but forgot that it was just minions. She only gets the + to attack not damage v masters, but her minimum damage is 3 so hitting is the important bit. With so many 10T with 1 min damage, having a consistent damage dealer is really useful rather than the boom or bust on some others. Oh and I forgot she's immune from horror duels, which when tied to her good Wp makes her a good choice against Ressers and the like.
  8. Brace yari is really good for either protecting a firebase or keeping the enemy from charging misaki and other hard hitters until you can charge them. She can also use smoke and shadows as last blossom, so push her forward, drop smoke and brace and your crew can move up to her at half-way in relative safety. Once up to halfway, nimble means she is decent at dropping scheme markers such as line in the sand. I often take wings of wind (not sure on name - book to with me) so I can give her a little nudge to get her ahead of the crew. The + flip vs masters in combat can be pretty scary (especially if you have recalled training as well), so use her as a counter charge if they come in close or make the opponent think twice about getting so close with their master.
  9. Against a very shooty crew with zoraida I deploy a waldgeist right up the board - if it lives it can drop my own cover and engage with it's 4" melee. If it dies then they get bad juju and killjoy in their deployment zone early doors. A little bit of a one trick pony, but can work on occassion.
  10. I'd rather have a katanaka sniper for the price. Better range, better damage, also able to perform in melee. I've tried running 1,2, 3 archers - even with blot out the sky upgrade and they just don't earn their points for me. The sniper is useful in every game though.
  11. If you give them glowing saber then their charge + melee reach is almost equal to their longbow reach ... I don't think archers are worth their cost with such a short range and no built in melee.
  12. I find yamaziko with brace yari is a good defensive shield while you get the big hitters across the board, so you charge and don't get charged. She can also take smoke and shadows which is useful against a shooty crew. Remember Misaki can cast this as well. For Misaki I prefer disguise and recalled training to misdirection. If I run recalled training then I would always try to fit a kamaitachi in my list now as well. Tengu seem to work better in pairs as they can drop markers for each other to bounce across to. Oiran you need that suit trigger for the lure, so I've tended not to run them. 10T Thunders are supposed to be really good though, I'm just still trying to find some suitable models for them. Archers I've just found lacklustre. Their range is just not long enough for a model with no melee attack and I'd rather take a kamatachi sniper but has both the extra range and can look after himself in melee. Samurai is decent, but I've not been tempted to run more than one of them. Lone swordsman does sound interesting.
  13. Fuhatsu is great for bodyguard. Get an initial push on him to get him out of your deployment zone and then he has a massive area of denial around him and takes a lot of killing. Samurai is a better all rounder I grant you, but actually not that durable. For scheme running, especially power ritual, I love torakage. Pricey, but with smoke and shadows, immunity from disengaging strikes, push on shooting etc they operate well as isolated scheme runners. Learning to use tengu now though as I've got some proxies sorted. I like Yamaziko a lot especially when you know they are going to be getting into melee range - assassinate, reckoning, lady justice etc. Her brace yari and 3" melee range can be really useful to create a safe bubble for other models. For any scheme/strat there is a lot of love for 10T brothers but I need some suitable models for these!
