  1. I think I settled on a project for round five of Iron Painter. There is not a lot to show as of yet. The working title was going to be "(The Complication with) Critters", but I wasn't sure I could get it to fit on the paper towel. The model is from the Through the Breach multi-part female kit. The furballs are plain sculpey. The plan calls for more Tribbles than Critters, but there will be a mix of both.
  2. You're welcome. I was a DNF for this round of Iron Painter. I have four unfinished projects. I kept shifting to new projects to reduce the amount of work required. I am not going to share everything, but I did manage to make a cheap and easy light box at the start of the round. I thought others might get some use out of this. The model in the pictures is the only one of the four projects to get any paint at all. The light box is simply a gallon jug from a bottle of distilled water with the top cut off. The plan is to eventually use a sheet of paper as a backdrop to line the back and bottom. I do not know if I will cut a slot for the paper to slide in from the back, tape a piece of paper in place, or make a lip near the opening and wedge some thicker paper in place. I need to play with it some more. The up side is if I trash the jug I can always make another for practically free. I also need to figure out the distance the camera needs to be and play with the settings, but I think this is going to work. The lights are in the same exact location for both pictures, but the shadows on the model seem to come from opposite sides depending on which way it is facing which is what I was looking for in a lighting setup. Life permitting, I will be sharing my round five entry here even though I will not be putting it in the gallery. I am happy with the experience overall in spite of the setbacks.
  3. Thank you. The flesh was a medium caucasian flesh color with a touch of black in it to cut it slightly. It was highlighted by mixing in white up to pure white. Then there was glazes with purple mixed with the flesh with no black, purple by itself, a dark turquoise like color, a burnt umber type color, and the flesh color without any black or white in it. The face was the same colors minus the burnt umber with less white. I started by trying to break it down into basic shapes. In this case, a wiggly line for the brow, a straight line for the nose, and a couple of triangles for the cheeks. After that I blocked in the eye sockets as if painting a skull to make certain they lined up and were roughly equal. Then it was back and forth as I brought elements forward and pushed things back and attempted to tie the elements together while adding details like the eyelids. The finishing touch was two pure white dots for light reflecting off of the eyes. The reflections on the helmet were added on a different day after I went back and tapered the scalp. This proved to be a good surface for it as the face can be a little distorted and not look too off. I will likely not be upkeeping this thread for the first week of this round of Iron Painter. The CPU on my PC died. My roommate is letting me use her laptop to post. I do not want to load it up with pictures or much of anything of mine since she is being so nice in letting me use it. There may be a dump of images when the new computer parts get in as I am already taking some pictures. I also started work on a light box.
  4. It is not finished, but I am much happier with the model. I think I am going to seal it and set it aside for now. The work since the round ended has been the face, chains, a couple of hoses, base, and some cleaning up of the skin.
  5. Thank you. I hope he proves to be a magnet for attention on the table and draws my fellow gamer's focus away from what I may be doing elsewhere on the table.
  6. These minis now owe you a favor. These take me back. We never had anything painted half this well back in the day, but the images still yank on the strings of memory.
  7. It might seem silly, but I am still working on this.
  8. I can totally see that. Black and white were used everywhere, and they are two colours I tend not to use often, and sparingly when I do. There are no real attention grabbing colours except for maybe the cloth. Thank you for the kind words and the critique.
  9. Thank you. The blue is an older Citadel colour called Enchanted Blue. The Coat d'Arms equivalent is Wizard Blue.
  10. I had intended to take a long break from painting, but I had the itch to paint. I worked on the base a little this morning. We'll get him presentable yet.
  11. Thank you. I normally do not paint nmm as the majority of what I paint is for gaming and I find tmm reads better at a distance.
  12. Thank you. That is what I was hoping for.
  13. Thanks. The horizon was unplanned. The arms are magnetized so I can swap them for gaming purposes. I painted them separately as they wiggled if on the model. I was worried about the highlights and shading shifting positions on me so I painted three white lines to keep them straight. As time became an issue, I just worked the white lines into the metal. The metals are all black, white, and X. The steel was the same blue as the cloth, the brass was yellow, the iron was dark umber and the copper was the same orange-brown used on the foot wrappings.
  14. Thank you. The flesh is the only part I got around to doing any glazing on. It's black, white, and flesh with thin passes of purple, dark turquoise, dark umber, and the base flesh over that.
  15. I was putting edges on the saw blade a half hour before the deadline. I cleaned up my paint area to photograph before realizing I neglected to paint the rim of the base so had to go back to paint that. I may try to finish this model this week if I feel like painting something. It is in the gallery with the other round three entries.
