  1. If it can wait until next week I should be able to help, depending on how many things you need done. I'm illustrating a card game right now, but it's due this Sunday, so hopefully I will have time after that. Not interested in taking on another huge project right away though. Just let me know!
  2. Hey everyone. I'm looking into buying a paint set, some big, but not too pricey. I really want to be able to just have all the colors I could need for painting my figs (adepticon is coming up and I have three guild crews that need painted perty). Anyone have any suggestions on a set? What do you feel is the best bang for the buck? Thanks guys!
  3. Thanks everyone! I knew that time limits were in effect, but I had no idea that one can only expect to get to turn 3-4. All great advice, and I'm going to get started on my game! Also I will be playing in the Team tourney as well
  4. I agree with everyone that premeasuring most likely will speed the game up and that there are some unfair advantages to people that lack depth perception (my wife being such a case). That said one of the things that I like about the lack of premeasuring is that it makes the game very deliberate. By that I mean that a player has to be willing to commit to an action without fully understanding it's consequences. I know I'm just speaking for myself but if I ever doubt whether or not I have range, I spend the AP to move, and if I don't then it means that I must not think that shooting someone is as important as another action. I realize that this approach messes with the optimization of a turn, but I actually enjoy it this way. It's not going to ruin my game whether there is premeasuring or not, and if it allows more people to enjoy the game then all the better.
  5. I've been playing Malifaux in Central IL at the Gopher for about 3 months now and have decided to get a more competitive with my game. I'll be stepping up to play in Adepticon (so far only the Cake and Costume tourneys, on the waiting list for Masters and may have a teammate for the Team). I know that I need to play more games, start writing battle reports, and get the rules down flawlessly, if I intend to play at this level. Apart from these things though, what would anyone suggest doing to step up my game? Any common pitfalls that a noob can make when attempting his/her first tourney? Thanks guys, hope to see you at Adepticon
  6. I haven't picked up the Avatar, but Perdita is a lot of fun to play. I used the Companion ability to take out Sonia Cribb in one turn, which helped me out a lot. Also if you get Abuela you can Companion another model that's not part of the Ortega family.
  7. Absolutely gorgeous paint job!
  8. Down in Champaign here!
  9. Hey everyone. I am a man of many names, but most commonly known as "Grey." I just ordered the Perdita set (coming in the mail on Saturday!) and am very excited to play a skirmish game again. Most of my tabletop gaming takes the form of adventuring with a party in Dungeons and Dragons (my wife being the current DM), but long ago I used to play Mage Knight way too much. I still have all of my figures! I know it grew into Heroclix, but that never appealed to me much. Getting out of college, before getting back into grad school, left me wanting to play a miniatures game. Hence I started a search in earnest arriving at Malifaux! I'm very excited to paint such interesting figures and even more excited to play! Not sure how active I'll be on the forums, I have a bad habit of not logging on regularly. But if I can see some awesome paint jobs and get some good tips I'm sure I'll visit routinely!
