  1. Clousseau:- I am in Borehamwood, just north of London. Try rashleyactor@hotmail.com. It looks to me that lots of others have issues with the bits, but everyone agrees it is still a great game. If I find enough people who want to play it, I shall be investing in the expansions. No doubt I will find a friendly sucker - sorry - nice person, to paint the figures. Cheers!
  2. After waiting so long after first seeing this advertised, mainly due to numerous 'delays', my set finally arrived 2 days ago. I can sum up my reaction to it as simply:- Great game! Shame about the bits. I should really explain this in more detail to be fair. I am much more a 'Board' gamer than 'Miniatures' player. Hate assembling, building, painting figure/terrain etc.. That is why I went for this over Malifaux. It looked to me like Wyrd was trying to bridge the gap between boardgaming and wargaming. They have somewhat 'fallen' between the two. However, it does seem popular and hopefully won't alienate both camps. At this price, the bits should have been better. It looks like Wyrd said "We make metal figures so that's it!" The rest looks like they got cheap 'job lots' from other manufacturers without thinking it through. The card stock is very thin throughout. The board, though sturdy, is too cluttered to clearly see the hexes, and the decks are almost too over graphiced - is that a word? - suitwise. The tokens also suffer by too much graphics obscuring the content, and why oh why aren't they double sided? What a waste! The 2? hole plastic bases seem strange with 1 prong metal figures, and the bland plastic tokens are a big mistake on the board. They look non-descript and slide about badly. They should have been thicker cardboard tokens than the ones used, but with clearer graphics and again double sided. The overall effect would have looked better, be more practical and have been cheaper. I am sure Wyrd would never think of using plastic figures. This is beginning to look worse than I hoped. I still think the game itself is great. It just looks as if Wyrd looked 'out of their depth' once out of their cosy miniatures known world. The bits will not appeal to the normal detail obsessive wargamer, and board gamers will be horrified by the impractical usage of the bits. A wasted opportunity. I see on the forums that 'stickers' and such are being invented by players, but we shouldn't need to do it - except to expand the game. Hopefully Wyrd will get a board game graphic designer on board if they continue to move in that direction. Cheers!
  3. My local games store in north London promised originally late September. Then 'due to distribution problems' it was pushed back to end of September. I expect it will be early October now as the delays seem official. They are putting one aside for me when it arrives, so I hope I will be playing before Christmas!!!!! Cheers!
  4. The pictures and videos have been a great help. Thanks! Definitely will be buying when it reaches the UK. The miniatures, cards, board etc., look excellant, but my one small disappointment were the tiles. Rather drab and limiting. Basically, only 1 type of terrain (Blocking) and 3 colours for workbenches. To compete with other normal miniature battle games - including Malifaux - more variety and some graphics would help enormously! I can see players soon adding their own new terrain/object/event tiles, but it would be nice if Wyrd released their own in future expansions. Think of the possibilities! Slowing terrain. Higher terrain. Barriers for cover. Things to find. Places to explore. The mind boggleth!!! I am not really complaining - my fertile mind just keeps creating - but I thought coloured discs were a bit ordinary. Probably helped to keep the costs down. Cheers!
  5. Many thanks from all of us poor suckers a long way from the states. We shall not be getting copies of Puppet Wars for some time. This has given us a great feel of how the games looks and plays. The cards, models, board and character/upgrade sheets, look great, but the board tokens look a bit fiddly. It looks like they will slide about too easily, even without a great feline beastie on the loose. Great review and insight. Can't wait to play it. Cheers!
  6. I believe it may be a 'Trait' that the Puppet with it gains. Other Puppets also have the 'Rotten' trait - Autopsy, Zombies etc. So far it doesn't seem to mean anything, but in expansions, maybe this trait will be mentioned. It may have something to do with being 'Stinky' like the 'Stinky Hat'. Cheers!
  7. My main reasons for getting interested in Puppet Wars was the fact that the interesting Malifaux system had been adapted to a board. I hate all the painting of hundreds of figures, the time spent on terrain, which hardly has an effect except blocking, rolling scores of dice many times over for each result, and the innacuracies of measuring. Therefore, my only sojorn into miniature battles has been Battles of Westeros and Earth Reborn. Both played on boards. When I received an e-mail about Puppet Wars - thanks Wyrd! - I thought I could get hooked. I mentioned in a previous thread about a great animation film called '9'. It was about 'puppets/dolls' which had been given the souls of humans lost after an apopaclyptic destruction. It was great stuff - no pun intended - and I thought at the time it would make a great game setting. I wonder if Wyrd thought so too. Anyway, that was my interest and I shall be watching its progress closely until its release. September? Cheers!
  8. It looks like Wyrd are on to a winner with Puppet Wars! Look at all the locations from around the world showing interest, and it is still months away. Mind you, all this talk of badges and soft toys etc., leads me to believe that the gameing community is growing into a load of gooey softies. Still, it did look cute. Now look what you have done! You got me doing it now - says he beating his chest in a butch manly fashion and deepening his voice. Cheers!
  9. Yes, I would start worrying! Like you, I thought this looked perfect for my local clubs, although in my case, Wyrd had sent me an e-mail about it. As for family, well mine is grown up so hopefully only I will be demanding more additions. I should be able to resist any merchandising they bring out - much too old for dollies now - but i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make some animation films based on this. Did you see that wonderfull one about puppets called '9'? At least like me you are a long way from the US and have that buffer. Long wait until September though! Cheers!
  10. It looks like this game could help bring boardgameing and tabletop miniatures much closer. The former, like me, dislike painting and the latter mostly enjoy it as part of that hobby. I am with tadaka on getting stuck in quickly, but lalochezia makes a good point about distinguishing figures on the board. Even with painting, an overall colour for each faction seems a good idea. Cheers!
  11. Thanks Cloussau. I shall look out for that. After talking to the organiser (you?) at the event, I bought the new Malifaux rules only booklet from my local games shop. Only the thought of makeing tabletop scenery and the dreaded painting stopped me getting started. This Puppet War boardgame looks more like my thing and will definitely be looking out for it. My miniatures gameing at present is limited to just Battles of Westeros because of the non-painting aspect and I love the books. It is a matter of getting a look inside Puppet Wars. I have heard the board and tiles are much better than the map planner seems to suggest. I prefer hexes to measuring - much cleaner and safer - and the theme looks fun. Thanks for your input. Cheers!
  12. I am envious of all those going to Gen Con. Can't afford to travel from the UK. If anyone is demonstrating Puppet Wars in the UK - preferably in easy reach of London - let me know. It's a long wait until September. Cheers!
  13. I see what Cadilon is getting at. Variety is the spice of this game and all the proposed Boosters have duplicate Pawns. OK, Pawns can be duplicated in a game, but if you are looking for variety or specifics, then singles are a good idea. Of course it will be more expensive to buy singly, but swapping is even cheaper. Cheers!
  14. A few months back I saw Malifaux being played at a Warhammer Invasion tournament in Northampton. I was intrigued by its world and concept, so joined this forum to learn more. It is a great way to learn about a game and its effects on plkayers. When the Puppet War was announced on my e-mail, I thought it looked perfect. I have to admit to absolutely loathing painting figures and makeing terrain etc. I can usually find a sucker - sorry, nice person - to paint a few figures, so this looked ideal with the hex mapboard and tokens. No more 'expanding rulers'. So a big thanks to the others on this forum and I shall be checking things out regularly. If the release is September in the US it could be longer hitting the UK. Cheers!
