  1. Right, so it appears that the CRYPTS subforum was only viewable to members and site staff If this has effected you and as such you haven't actually had a chance to read any of the files please try again now as it 'should' be working. Any problems please let me know
  2. Ok so I realise that while having all the files separate is great for breaking down feedback etc, it's no good if you want to actually find everything. For this reason I've created a new thread with everything listed: http://crypts.freeforums.net/thread/14/collated-rules This 'should' contain all the rules at present. As stated there are a couple of QuickStart changes I need to add, plus the Skelton King boss is getting a major overhaul, and I am adding difficulty scales to the bosses, but all this is still to come!
  3. Greetings friends! Some of you may remember me from my work on the unofficial Malifaux supplement; MaliQuest. Since then I have been hard at work creating my very own game using the lessons I learned from MaliQuest. I am now happy to unveil the open test forum for the game CRYPTS: A Weird West Dungeon Crawler http://crypts.freeforums.net From this central hub you can download the QuickStart rules, the current incarnation of the 60 card loot deck, beasties&bosses (or combined into the Monster Manual complete with original fluff), character cards and the optional rules of Aspects (my version of free form classes). I would be super grateful if you could check this out and let me know your thoughts. **NB** I am currently searching for an artist who I can work with on this project, until then all art is the property of it's respective owner. *Edit* as an added treat, here is an example of the character card template: - not sure if this works, if not: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ckn98xqhqnc207j/CharacterCardComplete.jpg
  4. While I may no longer play Malifaux v2, I do still play (on the very rare occasion) V1, I'm due to celebrate my Blog's 2nd birthday. http://newfairbank.blogspot.com I tackle a number of things, war games, game design for my own game; CRYPTS, video games and general geek stuff. Hope you enjoy
  5. Thanks for the kind words! I think it was our best yet as well. I'm hoping we can record next in early December, as I have an accounting exam at the end of November and I want to make sure I focus on that as much as possible. About a week ago Justin did a blog post about the use of the she pronoun, personally everything given isn't something I'm buying, I feel there was a lot more to do with PR than they let on, but that's just me
  6. Something I find very interesting is how most comments (even by the podcasters) seems to be very much audience focused. As you may (probably don't) know I run two podcasts, the first which was never Malifaux focused but instead was about the game supplement I was making for Malifaux (MaliQuest) and is now focused on the game that has grown into CRyPTs: www.newfairbank.podbean.com - this podcast was aimed at 20 min bite sized slots, however because of limitations with the card duelling system of Malifaux that grew to roughly 1 hr. My other podcast Hobby Sofa www.hobbysofa.coda.net (new home, we have about 3 more episodes that I'm in the process of migrating over) is more about gaming and hobbies and general, but both primary hosts were v1 players. This tends to run for about 2 hrs per show. In both of these cases, I'll be honest that audience opinion doesn't come into it. We're not being paid or anything for doing this, in many and most cases we are paying out of our own pocket to make these, but we do it because we enjoy doing so. So why are they the length they are? Because that's the length that for me(us) is suitable for me(us). If people want to listen in then that's great, but that's a by-product for me, not the goal.
  7. Glad you guys are enjoying it! Next episode I'm hoping to talk about how I make my bases, and it's sort of like a beginer's guide. Also I'm getting into Hell Dorado, so you get to listen to me geek out over that. But on a serious note, we're looking to expand by recruiting a 3rd bum to sit on the Hobby Sofa. If anyone thinks that they can add to our discussions about our hobbies, then please let us know! All you need is Skype!
  8. Listening now, and I have to agree about the SS giving a positive to the damage flip is something that I've been thinking for a while. It keeps the current system while adding that much needed oomph!
  9. The stat cards do seem quite 'meh' to me, and from what we've seen of the models they're not shouting "buy me! Buy me!" But I am thinking they might look pretty thematic alongside the upcoming Levi crew, so I may pick them up for him - being both undead and constructs helps too for that.
  10. For those saying that it depends on the games available and the price, what games would you like to see? And what sort of price would you expect for a 2 day event? (Probably with lunch provided).
  11. Currently I'm thinking early or late summer. It's definitely a summer event, but I don't do well in the heat plus I don't want to be too close to MCC!
  12. Hi everyone! So I'm putting an idea out there that I would love some feedback on. Currently it's working title is Loxfest and it is a two day gaming event to be held next year. The venue would be at the Woodhall Community Centre, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire: http://www.saintjohnofgod.org/servicedetail.php?passedid=3 As you can see the venue appears to be large enough, is fully wheelchair accessible and is actually across the road from a parade of shops including a large Co-Op, fish&chips, bank etc so all mod cons are taken into account. The aim of the event is to have 'free form' gaming, and by that I mean that there will be a number of gaming boards available and set up, almost exclusively for Malifaux, but some others as well, BloodBowl, Infinity, WFB etc along with some empty tables which are available for other games on the fly, be them boardgames; Zombicide, CRYPTS, Settlers etc or Cardgames; Magic, Gloom, Vanguard etc. or if desired these can be used for extra boards of current games. Now while there will be a focus on people playing how they want, when they want, gaming on a regular basis across different platforms will be encouraged through the use of Achievement cards, giving you points for playing different games, or a certain number of games, or perhaps doing certain things within games or outside the games and the top X earners will receive prizes alongside the usual best painted, best costume, that sort of thing. So I'd love to hear your thoughts, is this something you'd be interested in attending or am I just chasing butterflies?
  13. For me I really struggle playing V2. From what I understand from speaking to a lot of others I am pretty much the only one who thinks this, so it must just be how my brain is wired, but I found V1/1.5 to be VERY intuitive. I remember my very first game and how within a matter of minutes I was seeing all manner of different synergies and it all just jumped off the table at me, I didn't need to think long and hard about any if it, in fact I did the opposite, I shut off my brain and everything flowed, and it was great fun. Now I tried for a very long time to get my head around V2 but I could only do so while thinking about every single action and synergy. Nothing jumped off the table for me, everything felt forced and by the end of every single game I had a head ache. Based on this I've had to stop playing v2 all together and won't touch it until after GenCon for these very reasons. Like I said, I've not heard of a single person who agrees with me on this, but for me, in streamlining the game they've made it less intuitive for me and in doing so an actual chore to play.
