There are several moddels I have painted in the last few years which I am very proud of. Lots of layers, some attempts at OSL, things like that. But lately I am just not satisfied with anything I have painted.
Most recently I tried painting Misaki's crew and Yan Lo's crew plus Izamu. I have repainted Izamu 2 or 3 times and am currently stripping the paint off of him. I just cant seem to paint him in the way his sculpt deserves. His pants turned out really good last time, but his armor just doesn't look good no matter how I paint it.
Yan Lo's crew turned out okay the first time, but I went ahead and reprimed them to start over as I want them to match Izamu.
Ototo looks horrible. I tried doing a yellow paint scheme for Misaki's crew and it just didn't work. The yellow I was using was either transperent or globby. I just couldnt seem to get it on right. It was either too thin or too thick no matter what I did. I think my problem with Misaki's crew was the actual yellow paint I was using. It is quite old and just doesnt seem to cover right no matter how much I thin it or what I do with it. Applying it in thin layers made it look very "sticky", it just looked like a model dipped in yellow ink.
My second attempt at the torakage turned out better. They are not finished yet but they are at least table top.
Come to think of it, my last few models I was happy with were all metal models. Should there be any variation in my painting technique between metal and plastic models?
I want to get this sorted before I start on Tara's crew. I also want there to be some cohesion between my Yan Lo crew, Tara Crew, and Misaki's crew. I've been having trouble coming up with color schemes lately. I have a lot of blue paint from painting Rasputina and a lot of nephilim. I can do blue very well; but I am getting tired of blue. I used to play blood angels so I have a lot of red painting experience.
I'm not happy with my greens and yellows. I think this is mostly because of my paint selection as I only have a few of each and haven't really found any combinations I like. Where I have probably 10 different shades of blue I only have 2 shades of green and one of yellow.
I've been having trouble with my NMM lately as well. I did a guardian that I am extremely proud of using a combination of metallics and NMM. I have not really done anything since that good.
Sorry for the rambling, but I just need to figure this out. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
