  1. Hello. So the last two games I played were my Ortegas against Kirai and a variety of Spirits. Man are those healing bunch of ghosts annoying! But a fun opponent. Anyway, a couple of questions came up surrounding Obey targetting Kirai's friends. 1) Lost Love and Ikiryo both have Kirai's Soul, which states that they cannot be controlled by crews other than the one that summoned them. Does this mean that they can't be forced to Obey, since the (1) Action or Charge are 'controlled' by the casting player? 2) Shikome's Single Minded abilities says she cannot attack a model that is not her Prey. Can I use Obey on her to Charge a model that is not her Prey, if the Charge fails and she ends up short of Melee? In our game Shikome had cast(ed) Guarantee Fate on Francisco, so I had to end the turn close to her. I used Perdita's Obey to get Shikome to Charge Francisco, knowing it would not end up in an attack. A note, neither of us had used/faced Shikome before, so we did not realise that she could not attack a non-Prey model. Anyway, after the game my opponent did some reading and felt that my Obey to make her Charge a non-Prey model was illegal. But I think it is legal, since there was no attack. Anyone know the ruling? Thanks for your help! Justin
  2. I think one of the beauties of a Seamus list is that he doesn't necessarily have to start with Belles on the board. My recent 27ss list has Seamus with Sybelle, Mortimer, two Punks and one Belle. Killing enemy models (that drop corpse counters) can make it easy to bring new Belles into the mix. I'd say have a Hanged around to knock out half a model's Wd, etc...ignoring Fear Not Death and Stubborn. Punk Zombies are good at dealing damage. They can't take as much as some of the other models, though. Crooked Man looks neat. I'm going to have to try him out. I personally prefer to keep the theme relatively together, so I haven't considered a Flesh Construct yet. And I don't add Outcasts, so even though the Convict Gunslinger's pretty awesome, I avoid him.
  3. TABSCon Date: Saturday, March 20, 2010 Time: 9am-9pm City/Province: Toronto, Ontario Location: Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2737 Bayview Ave This is the quarterly gaming con for TABS, the Toronto Area Boardgaming Society (www.tabsonline.net). There is a $5 entry fee for the day, but it runs 9am-9pm with plenty of opportunities for board, card and minis gaming throughout the day. For more information, check the website, or ask!
  4. I'd like to update this thread to say that we are currently at a nice 10 players in the League. We've got a nice spread among the factions, but only one Resurrectionist Crew (me). As of right now we have an official league night every second Tuesday at Meeplemart, but games are also being played on other nights, simply to keep things moving.
  5. Awesome! Those were my first two crews as well, and still my favourite.
  6. I've had varied success so far with Seamus and Co., who are my favourite crew to run. At 25 I've had fun running... Seamus Sybelle (6ss) 2 Belles (8ss) 2 Punk Zombies (10ss) ...or I've used variations of this, like dropping a Belle and adding another Punk, since Seamus can bring back more Belles. My next game I'm going to throw Mortimer in, and see if he can help out any. There are a lot of synergies I haven't really nailed down yet, but I know they're there.
  7. Last night we kicked off the "Meeplemart Minimeet Malifaux League - Winter/Spring 2010" at Meeplemart in Toronto. As of right now it is still an open league, with spots available. We are looking at at least one round of play, but that might change once we see how quick we can run it (otherwise the Summer/Fall league will have to be improved). Anyway, rules are based off the Maplewood, NJ league posted here in the forum, with some changes that are...still changing! As for right now, this is how it looks... Meeplemart Minimeet Malifaux League - Winter/Spring 2010 Games played every Tuesday night at Meeplemart in Toronto. Games can be played outside of this, as long as notice is given. Players choose a Faction to play throughout the league, which cannot be changed. As well, a starting Recruitment Pool of 30ss will be chosen from that Faction's (and available Outcast's) models. This pool will be added to by purchasing models using 'Cred' gained by playing games. Players' Crews for each match is limited by their Max SS Allowance. Beginning at 25ss, this limit will be raised by spending 'Cred.' When one player has a lower ss limit than their opponent, they gain bonus ss equal to the difference in Max SS Allowances. Cred will be earned thusly... +1 Cred for playing +1 Cred for winning +2 Creds for achieving your Strategy +1 Cred for each Scheme achieved +1 Cred if your opponent has earned more Cred than you +1 Cred if you play a game with painted models (one time only) +1 Cred if you lend models to another player (one time only) You can increase your Recruitment pool by purchasing units at a 1ss-to-1 Cred purchase. You can increase your Max SS Allowance at 1ss-to-2 Cred. As of right now, we are playing one round, so each player will play each other player once. Thus, the painting and lending bonuses will only be given once, but if we do play a second round, they can be achieved again. What happens at the end, whether we just give out prizes or we play League Finals, will be determined at a later date.
  8. Steve at Meeplemart (meeplemart.com) in the East End of Toronto has also begun a regular Malifaux night. Every Tuesday is a "Minimeet," where we will have a theme of some sort being played. So far we've had both Malifaux and Infinity played, with more to come, but it looks as if every second Tuesday will be Malifaux night. The next such night will be February 2nd. It's great we've now got two great locations, one in the east and one in the west, that are running/allowing Malifaux nights!
  9. Reading this brings me back to playing Warmachine. Also tells me how to run Ramos when I've finished painting him
  10. Hah, I thought the same thing after I posted it! I'll be sure to do that next time. It's been a while since I wrote one of these (I used to do it all the time - I've got a bunch on boardgamegeek.com under Von Cougar). Thanks, as well. I didn't get to finish the actual game, so I only had two turns to work with. And I wanted to do something in media res, AND focus on the minions (I had the very first line in my head on the way home, and that's what started it all). But I started writing it very late at night after a long day, so it's not as complete as I was planning.
  11. It was as if she knew she was going to die. Again. You can't hold it against the undead to use their dying breath to go down fighting, tooth and nail. They know what's in store fot them. They've gone through it before, after all. So it should have come as no surprise to the December acolyte that, as Rasputina's especially severe blast hit the nameless belle he was fighting full force, the undead hooker would strike one last time. Which she did. Strong and fast. It was all the acolyte could do to fend her off, but only barely. He had already had suffered enough wounds to warrant backing off, and he could feel the bullet wound in his side oozing blood. And this last attack wasn't helping. The risen belle, commanded by that mad hatter, seemed like easy pickings. And an easy meal. But the disciple of December was now rethinking his meal choice. She was a little more resilient than he had expected. Better stick to the living. The undead leave a bad taste in his mouth, anyway. The acolyte had set his mind. It was time to back off, lick his wounds, and return another day. All he needed was another meal. Seamus over there would be great. Or would have been, if there wasn't some punk zombie with katanas rushing at him at that moment. Great, he thought. More undead. And he looked extra blood-thirsty. Before the acolyte could swing his claws around to protect himself, the zombie was upon him. The sound of a pair of slashing katanas came just before the flash of reflected moonlight. They moved surprisingly fast at the hands of an undead creature. But this creature was clearly born, then later reborn, to wreak such havoc with his swords. It was all over in barely a moment. The December acolyte was already dead by the time he dropped into a pool of his own blood, the punk zombie standing over him, grinning a sick, grotesque grin as he looked upon his victim. A few feet away diminutive, blue creature stared up at the punk zombie. It did not look afraid. Rather, it looked ready for a fight. Moments earlier... Rasputina, despite her normally calm and cool demeanor, looked pissed. For all the awesome power of the elements that she commanded, why were her minions so unreliable? The acolyte of December was loyal to Rasputina, supposedly an exceptional hunter, a killer and even eater of flesh. And yet he was having trouble combatting a resurrected prostitute! Of the three small ice gamin that she had brought with her, only one was actually moving towards her enemy. The others slowly making their way off to the side somewhere. And where was her towering golem of ice? The pinnacle of her conjuring powers. What was he doing? Hiding? Maybe next time she constructed an ice golem she would put a little more umph into his mobility. And if having a bunch of useless followers wasn't bad enough, her little mission into an abandoned mining operation was interrupted by that cretin Seamus and his band of reanimated followers. What should have been a simple outing to search for some easy soulstones has turned out to be a travesty. This is the last time I travel during the summer! thought Rasputina. Her reflections were interrupted by a loud bang! and a grunt of pain. She immediately knew the source of both sounds: Seamus' feared pistol and her should-be killer minion, the acolyte. Damn that Seamus! she thought. Rasputina determined it was time to fight. Sure, her combat skills were decidedly poor. But her casting and conjuring skills were unmatched. And with the power of the icey elements at her beck and call, it was time to punish Seamus and his crew for interfering with her goal. The slender caster stepped forward, out of the protection of the boulder she had been hiding behind, and pointed her left hand at the shuffling figure of Sybelle, Seamus' right-hand woman. Rasputina splayed and flexed her fingers. As she did so, a gust of air swirled around her body, picking up both speed and sound as it went. The fur on her cuffs flittered, and her sash, apron and coat tail fluttered. Suddenly Rasputina pulled her hand back and thrust it forward, sending the rushing gust towards the undead dominatrix. As soon as it hit Sybelle, she stopped and straightened, eyes wide. Although seemingly impossible, her pale skin got whiter, and tinged slightly blue. Perhaps it was because she was angry, or maybe just because she was incredibly powerful in the art of casting, Rasputina was able to send another chilling gust towards Sybelle. The fierecness in her eyes was matched only by the bite of the wind she was controlling. Sybelle took the second attack, wincing. And Rasputina did it again. And again. Her fingers seemed to palpate the air, causing more and more wind to fly towards Sybelle, who looked ready to keel over any moment. It looked as if in one fell swoop Rasputina was going to send Sybelle back to the dead, but she stopped suddenly. Instead she looked towards the little melee involving one of her gamin, the acolyte and the undead hooker. Reaching her right hand back and swinging it forward, somewhat like tossing a ball underhand, Rasputina sent another spell forward. It hit the belle full force, with incredible strength, as if backed by December himself. It was accompanied with a thunderous crash from the heavens. As it was hitting the belle, she was launching herself at the acolyte. It was amazing how a once already-dead creature could do so much damage while dying again. Rasputina was used to conjuring and casting. She was good at it. She was great at it. She just wished she didn't have to do all the work herself. Moments earlier... Seamus giggled a little as he loaded his flintlock pistol. Yes, he was a little mad. But that just made things more fun. He raised the pistol and aimed it at that feral acolyte assaulting his precious belle. Okay, so it was the belle who lured the acolyte out from the shadows and attacked first. But he had fought back. And that was unacceptable. Seamus giggled again as he considered the consequences of firing into the fight. Sure, he could hit the belle. She had already been wounded a little, and there was a good change his flintlock would kill her. Again. But he could also hit the acolyte, that nasty creature, eater of perfectly fine bodies that could be reanimated. That was just sick. He could also hit that tiny blue creature with the big claws. Meh, he thought to himself. It’s worth a shot. Seamus giggled at his own little joke and fired. The retort was loud, the kickback strong, and the smoke heavy. He sort of hopped from one foot to the other, a creepily large smile on his face, as he waited to see who he hit. Fortunately for Seamus, the shot sailed true and hit the acolyte squarely in his side. Surprisingly he didn’t go down, but he was clearly hurting. No problem, one of his minions would finish the job. And he did have a number of minions. And for each of his own or Rasputina’s minions that died, he could reanimate their corpse. That’s why it was okay if he had hit his belle. She would just be the raw materials for bringing back another undead follower. At that moment he heard a gust of wind and saw his most faithful servant, Sybelle, being buffeted by a force so powerful that it could only have come from Rasputina. His smile disappeared and was replaced by a frown, almost as wide as the smile had been. The gust was followed by another, and another, and then another. Sybelle seemed almost frozen, almost defeated. Seamus growled a deep, unnatural growl. A thunderous crash seemed to emanate from all around, and a chilling blast hit his rotten belle. She took it full force, but managed to go down clawing at the acolyte she had been fighting. Seamus’ left eye twitched. His servants were dropping like the flies that swarmed around them. It was time to take the fight to Rasputina and make her pay for her insolence.
  12. I've recently added Punk Zombies and now Mortimer to my Redchapel gang. I got one game in so far with zombies, and they're pretty classy. I successfully used their Self Mutilate on Rasputina, but only after three failed attempts on other models. I'm excited to use Mortimer. I hope he's as good as I think he might be. Too bad he can't use Make My Own Friends with punk zombies.
  13. Then I'll be sure to have my stuff ready.
  14. Please, steal the pose(s)! Just after I attached these guys, I picked up some Litko "flying bases" for another game. I realised the 'flying' guy might look great an inch off the base. I'd consider picking up another pack of DMs one day to try it Krylon is in fact pretty cheap. I haven't yet tried the even cheaper stuff at Walmart, but I'm quite happy with Krylon. I bought a GW can once, but at like $18, there's no way I'm doing that again. I'd love Black, but not at that price. Maybe I'll go with the super cheap black if I can find it, and just check it out. Oh, and the mat is an untouched Zuzzy. I colour-matched my Resurrectionist bases to the mat's gray.
