  1. Yea...I'm probably going to redo it at some point. I just haven't had time to deal with it lately. I'll probably do more of a "community" tank with a little more color. I had cichlids and a very large pleco...not so "community" friendly....as the cichlids would eat anything that'd fit in their mouths. The pleco dying kinda surprised me...he was always very change tolerant/resilient, but he kicked the bucket along with the rest of 'em.
  2. One 55 gallon freshwater....had a 29, as well, that I just gave away to my brother's kids. My 55 is empty at the moment...I just lost the tank (inside of three days) to some outside contaminant...not sure what happened, as all my testing was good... Ran well for three years...then bam...I killed 'em all...
  3. LOL..I guess I read "GenCon" and stopped there. Yea..I don't know about the PP stuff. I didn't place, but the guys "oohed and ahhed" over the mini---and told me to keep checking "No Quarter". They didn't mention when they'd be up online. I haven't checked the latest issue.....which may already be on the shelves.
  4. There's some coverage at Electric Ocean. The winners are listed in the GenCon forums...as for pictures on the GenCon site---the delay may have to do with Sue having other things going on at the moment. Not sure.
  5. Yep...great paint jobs present the figures properly. As a customer, I've *never* been scared away from buying a miniature because it was painted great----quite the contrary, in fact.
  6. She just looks "odd" to me....like her mouth is too big for her head or something....
  7. In the infamous words of Doc Holiday/Val Kilmer... "Say when..." We're always looking for an excuse to get out of the house...8)
  8. On the point of asphalt---- Sheetrock compound/joint compound Basically, take your glob of compound, put it on the base---smooth out the top a bit to indicate the pave surface---let it form "a crust" on the outside. The center will still be soft. Anyway, at this point, take a flat surface (like a piece of plasticard)....press several odd angled flat surfaces into it---as desired. The putty crust will crack between the adjacent areas---and the crust will be flat on the areas you pushed on. It's the fastest, most efficient way---albeit a bit messy. On the question of slots.... The air gap left in the slotta base is usually filled----you can use green stuff, plasticene, plasticard, paper, glue, etc... Usually what I do---fill the slot beforehand...pin the minis feet...drill holes through the base to match the pins. Insert the pinned miniature and glue it to the base...the simplified version, of course. And it should probably be noted.... I live in Cartersville----so, if you ever want a demo, I don't mind visiting (or mind you guys visiting us)......I can even bring Marie along. Cheers, Kev.
  9. I liked it enough to at least see where it's headed for the next few shows. Granted, it's not a great work of art, but I didn't really expect that from the remake of a "c" grade offshoot of a "b" grade series. I expected a little action--- And some hot, skimpy outfits.
  10. I'm just as guilty as the next person, but I've been slowly breaking the habit--opting for alternatives to get the good point on my brush. And probably for the same reason Skya is passionate about it. Regardless, I think it's important to understand, the CPSC is not the FDA...... Their concern is whether the product would cause a need for immediate medical attention---or ultimately a need for a coroner. They answer the question "Is it toxic?" They don't answer the question "Is it safe to eat?" The FDA's goal, in the US at least, is to answer that question...8) Point is..."non-toxic" and "safe to eat" are two completely different things....and governed by two different agencies. Cheers. K.
  11. I'd be interested if it could maintain momentum. Around here, "painting" as a hobby just hasn't taken off. We've got a few folks, mind you, but most of the competitive painters live several hours away from each other. Most of the painting at gaming stores here consists of guys either braggin' on their new dip mix or seeing how many odd shapes they can cut into plasticard. Not disparaging them mind you----just not my personal interests. Regardless, I maintain that my home is open to any that want to join me for painting, beer, and food---whether in-state or out----- In actuality, we have an informal "CON" at my house once per year. Darin "Whizard" Hlavaz and I are there every year---the week before (or after) Games Day Atlanta. This year Phil "Flynn" Esterle and Dwight "Darthfoley" Bills joined us. Which is pretty nice. A room full of great painters---all half drunk and thinking about where we're gonna eat next. Not to mention---my wife cooks a mean yard-bird. Kev
  12. Hiya guys and gals.... My wife and I are going in a limited sense this year....Darthfoley will be joining us for the trip. Basically, we are driving up for the contest. I'll be entering my stuff on Friday, and then spending Saturday hanging in the dealer hall---and driving back Saturday evening. Cheers, Kev

  14. E., don't sell yourself short--- I've *never* had a hard time believing you were an ass...
  15. Hi folks! I'm Kevin. I work as a security architect at a financial services firm---my background is electrical engineering with an expertise in programmable logic controllers. I have some degree of expertise in all things IT---SME level at networking and tcp/ip, along with advanced oop coding and database expertise. I also own a small real estate investing company----and I go to school part time at night in an attempt to finish my undergrad/MBA I'm 39, been married for 8 years to a very lovely (and very patient) woman and have one daughter. I picked up my first paintbrush about 2 1/2 years ago, and haven't been able to put it down since. My main focus with my painting right now is to win at a Games Day-----we'll see how that goes. As far as hobbies----if it can be done without getting arrested, I've probably tried it. Cheers, Kev
